Blind Auditions Part 1
April 26

Take away the polish, the style, and the image, and what do you have? A voice. Four celebrity coaches begin their search for the next great American singer on... "THE VOICE!" The four...

- Gnarls Barkley frontman Cee-Lo Green
- Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine
- Pop princess Christina Aguilera
- Country crooner Blake Shelton

And your guide for this journey... Carson Daly, in his first ever game show gig.

But before we begin... how about a small concert, as the coaches cover "Crazy". That was fun... NOW... the game is... a team of eight singers for each coach. Auditions will NOT be influenced by what you wear, what you look like, or how old you are... If they like what they hear, then they can hit their I WANT YOU button. But if more than one coach hits their button, then it's the vocalist's choice, and the coaches, who are also competing, will have to convince the singer to join their team. But if NO coach picks them, they're out of the competition. Once the teams have been chosen, then they train train train before... the battle rounds. In these battles, the singers are cut from eight a team to four. Then the power shifts to you, America. At stake, a recording deal with Universal Republic Records (corporate) and $100,000.

So now the question is.... Who has... THE VOICE?

First up, Tarralyn Ramsey (31, Jacksonville, FL). She sings "Breathe" by Faith Hill. Christina wants her... and so does Cee-Lo! Tarralyn... picks CHRISTINA.

Next up, Patrick Thomas (20, Nashville), who was a complete nerd who thought of music as a better release than sports. He sings "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw. Adam and Cee-Lo hit the button at the same time... and here comes Blake. So a choice among the three men, one of which happens to be a country star AND could make Patrick a country star... and it goes to BLAKE!

So two coaches have their first picks...

Jared Blake had a drinking problem... and four little girls. The four girls win, and he got clean. He goes with Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad". And it's a case of bad singer gone good... no one picks him.

Will Vicci Martinez (26, Tacoma, WA) meet a similar fate? She came out to her parents 10 years ago, and since then, her father and biggest supporter died. She sings "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, but for reasons unknown, we don't see her face until AFTER Cee-Lo and Christina pick her. She sang the "I don't think I can say on NBC what I want to say" out of it, according to Christina. So who gets Vicci? That would be... CEE-LO.

Elenowen (Josh & Nicole Johnson, Nashville, TN) are our first duo. We'll get to them later. Right now, Sonia Rao (24, Freehold, NJ), the daughter of Indian immigrants. She has no backup plan, so if this doesn't pan out... who knows. She sings "If I Ain't Got You" (which, by the way, was covered by Adam in Maroon 5). Adam did a better job of it. But it's not what I think... And she has nobody.

Now for Elenowen... who sing "Falling Slowly". Blake hasn't heard a duet on this stage. He has to see it, pushing his button. Cee-Lo agrees... They consider themselves a folk-pop duo. It's going to Josh... and he picks... BLAKE.

Next... It's the return of Frenchie Davis (31, Los Angeles). She auditioned for Idol, got into the Hollywood Round, but was uninvited when it was revealed that she did... pictures? Can she redeem herself here with "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry? Christina hits it! And since she was the only one to do so, guess she's stuck with her.

Kelsey Rey (20, sebastian, FL) loves that this is about the voice and not the looks, because... well, look at her, she's hot. And she has a few online videos to prove the point. She tries "American Boy" by Estelle. Adam and Cee-Lo go in for this one... and so does Christina. Kelsey joins up with... CEE-LO.

So far, it's two to two to two to none for Adam. Jeff Jenkins (22, Jones Creek, TX) gets his strength from his departed mother, who taught him how to love and how to forgive. He sings "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. Here comes Cee-Lo and Adam... again. And Christina... again... and Blake makes it a FIGHT. Jeff picks... ADAM! He finally has one! YAY!

Homeless musician Rebecca Loebe (27, Atlanta) is just traveling around the country trying to make ends meet, living out of a car. She goes with Nirvana's "Come As You Are". Christina fires... Adam hits it... Rebecca's always been a fan of Christina here... but playing the game comes first, and she joins up with ADAM.

Now let's go back to Freehold, where we find 56-year-old Joann Rizzo, a Jersey mom. She's doing it for Jersey. She sings "I Say A Little Prayer" by Dionne Warwick. No takers.... Awww.

Xenia Martinez (16, Temecula, CA) has always been a shy violet, but will she bloom on the Voice stages with "Break Even" by the Script? Cee-Lo takes a shot... So does Blake. Xenia picks... BLAKE.

Tje Austin (26, Austin, TX) is a goofy Mormon. He is also obscured until he takes the stage... and for good reason, as he has the superfro. Adam aand Cee-Lo again... Tje says... CEE-LO.

Javier Colon (33, Stratford, CT) is doing this for his children. If he wins, he wouldn't have to worry about (insert pet cause of DOND contestant here). He goes with "Time After Time" from Cyndi Lauper. And here comes Adam and Cee-Lo AGAIN. And Christina... AGAIN... And Blake's in the fight for this artist. Javier picks... ADAM.

The last singer takes the stage... Beverly McClellan (41, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) has the guts of someone HALF her age. And at 41, this may be her last shot against the man. She's going to take another "Piece of My Heart" from Janis here... Christina and Adam want a piece. Beverly picks... CHRISTINA, getting a little revenge on Adam in the process.

At the end of day 1 of the blind auditions, all of the coaches have three...

ADAM: Jeff Jenkins, Rebecca Loebe, Javier Colon
CEE-LO: Vicci Martinez, Kelsey Rey, Tje Austin
CHRISTINA: Tarralyn Ramsey, Frenchie Davis, Beverly McClellan
BLAKE: Elenowen, Xenia, Patrick Thomas

Next week, the blind auditions continue as 20 spots await...
