Episode 2.2: Lennon & McCartney
October 9

Last time, #1 Susie Oh swept the Final Countdown for $50,000. Tonight, three more players will have a shot to take her crown and become tonight's Singing Bee Champion, and it's all to the soundtrack of John Lennon & Paul McCartney.

Susie's challengers are... Dean, Matt, and Samantha.

Round 1:

- 1968, "Birthday"
Band: "They say it's your birthday / Well my birthday too, yeah / They say it's your birthday..."
Dean: "Happy birthday to you." Nope.
Matt: "Happy birthday to you!" Still wrong.
SUSIE: "We're gonna have a good time!" THAT's why she's the champion.

- 1967, "Hello Goodbye"
Band: "You say yes, I say no / You say stop, and I say go go go / Oh no"
Samantha: "You say goodbye, and I say hello." RIGHT!

One more.

- 1967, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."
Band: "It was twenty years ago today / Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play / They've been going in and out of style..."
Dean: "And they're guaranteed to raise a smile." Close.
Matt: "And you're guaranteed to raise a smile." Correct: "BUT they're guaranteed to raise a smile."

- 1965, "Ticket to Ride"
Band: "I think I'm gonna be sad / I think it's today yeah / The girl that's driving me mad..."
Dean: "Is going away, yeah." That's three!

Meeting our players now... Susie (Pacific Palisades, CA) wants to pay some bills and buy a handbag with the money she won. Samantha (Brentwood, TN) grew up on a farm, but she's scared of cows. Dean played in the cover band called the "Dirty Little Orphans".

Round 2, Random Shuffle:

Unscramble your lyrics, friends...

- 1964, "Can't Buy Me Love" (money can't much me money care buy don't I too for love)
SUSIE: "I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love." Correct!

- 1966, "Paperback Writer" (paperback be so want writer I to a)
Samantha: "So I want to be a paper writer." Correct!

Dean needs this one to stay in the game.

- 1968, "Back in the USSR" (know don't you lucky how you are boy)
Dean: "Don't know how lucky you are, boy". Missed "YOU" at the start. Susie and Samantha move on!

Round 3, Sing the chorus:

- 1965, "Help!"
SUSIE: "Help me if you can / I'm feeling down / And I do appreciate / You being 'round / Help me get my feet / Back on the ground / Won't you please please help me". RIGHT!

This is to stay alive, Samantha.

- 1967, "When I'm Sixty-Four"
Samantha: "When you're sixty-four?" NO! It was "Will you still need me / Will you still feed me / When I'm sixty-four." Susie is a two-time champion!

Still got time, so let's go to the crowd. Gina, answer this for $500...

-1967, "With A Little Help from My Friends"
Band: "What would you think if I sang out of tune / Would you stand up and walk out on me / Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song..."
Gina: "And I'll try not to sing out of key." Right for $500.

Now it's time to play for cash money in... The Final Countdown...

Ray: "It's the Final Countdown!"

Seven songs, seven missing phrases. For each one you get right, you get $5000. Get five, and she's done it before, no problem... $50,000 richer, for a total of $100,000. But three strikes, and you're outta here.

Song #1: "She was a day tripper / A one way ticket yeah / It took me so long...."

Susie: "To find out." Ding!

(1965, "Day Tripper")
$5000
Song #2: "When I find myself in times of trouble / Mother Mary comes to me..."

Susie: "Singing words of wisdom, let it be." Close. It was "speaking".

(1970, "Let It Be")
$5000 X
Song #3: "Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs / Of every head he's had the pleasure to know / And all the people that come and go..."

Susie: "I got this one wrong, too" Yeah. It was "Stop and say hello."

(1967, "Penny Lane")
$5000 X X
Song #4: "Why she had to go / I don't know / She wouldn't say / I said something's wrong..."

Susie: "Now I long for yesterday..." That's two.

(1965, "Yesterday")
$10,000 X X
Song #5: "Picture yourself on a boat on the river / With tangerine trees and marmalade skies / Somebody calls you / You answer quite slowly..."

Susie: "The girl with kaleidoscope eyes."

(1967, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds")
$10,000 X X X

It was A girl... But she has $10,000 today, $60,000 for two games. She comes back next time to defend. Play us out Ray.
