15 Chefs Compete
April 16
It was the 150th episode of "Hell's
Kitchen". And it lived up to its billing for ALL THE WRONG REASONS. From
undercooked pork to chefs having beef with each other, what started out
with one chef getting booted for being lost in space ended up with four
chefs - Dan, Ray, Nedra, and Mary - being called down to remove their
jackets... but we are not even DONE yet.
We pick up with something Ramsay has
NEVER done before. For the first time in the history of Hell's
Kitchen... these four chefs on the brink of elimination are...
... being put on probation.
... Yeah.
They will have to earn their jacket BACK
in the next round and if they don't, they're HISTORY. They're still in
the competition, but they're hanging by a thread.
That won't stop Dan and Ray from....
going ... at it... again... with each other.
SKILL DRILL
#5: Chinese Made Complicated (mystery ingredients)
The chefs will be made to gather mystery ingredients and create a
stunning Chinese spread - chow mein, spring rolls, dumplings, soup,
fried rice, and stir fry. Each dish must have five ingredients and MUST
be plated in 40 minutes. The ingredients are inside a group of fortune
cookies (C-Note: an American invention), which must be collected in
three minutes. After getting scared within an inch of their lives by
living statuary (because if Ramsay likes three things, it's food,
marathon running, and cheap tricks), they are presented with the REAL
pile of mystery ingredient fortune cookies.
Manning the boards: Ja'Nel & Jacqueline
for the reds, and Dan & Ray for the blues.
Judging the creations... a man who needs
no introduction, famed Chinese chef Martin Yan.
FRIED RICE:
- Dan (who's lived in Asia for a year... and makes no apologies in
reminding us of that... over and over again): Mushroom Fried Rice
- Jacqueline: Firm Tofu Fried Rice
WINNER: Jacqueline (Reds up, 1-0)
STIR FRY
- Jon: Wheat Stir Fry with Scallops
- Jessica: "Supposed to be an appetizer dish."
WINNER: Jon (Tied at 1)
Barrett wins the spring roll, but Cyndi's
dumpling. The soups tie, so we're knotted up at 3 going into...
CHOW MEIN
- Susan: Rice Noodle with Pork
- Anthony: Wheat & Rice Noodle Chow Mein
WINNER: .... ANTHONY! (Blues win 4-3)
Ramsay promises a very relaxing day for
the Blues, but he won't say what. Oh, and Dan and Ray are safe for now,
as they get their jackets back. Oh yeah, did we mention this is the
Blues' FIRST CHALLENGE WIN?
The Reds will be anything OTHER than
relaxed, because they're making beef potstickers and steamed dumplings
ALL DAMN DAY. Worse than that, Mary and Nedra have one and ONLY one more
chance to win their jacket back before Ramsay hangs it up for good.
As for the reward, it's... PAINTBALL! And
the object: Kill Dan. I like that object.
At the punishment, we have lunch for the
ladies... and it's Gordon Pepper's favorite. BALUT!
Ramsay thinks that the chefs are ready
for a good service, so he's opening up the Chef's Tables tonight. In the
Blue Kitchen, "Entourage's" Rex Lee will be eating, while the Reds will
be entertaining Adam Shankman (producer and former SYTYCD judge).
Remember, shine as individuals, work as a
team.
"OPEN HELL'S KITCHEN, PLEASE!"
DINNER SERVICE #6
Ja'Nel and Ray are working on a tableside dim sum.
Nedra delivers her first risotto... and
Ramsay gives her her jacket back for an exceptional start. In fact, all
the appetizers are leaving the kitchen at a breakneck pace... too fast
for Ray, even. And if there wasn't enough pressure already, here come
the VIPs. Mary... also receives her jacket after a good risotto. All of
the Red apps have been served except for the Chef's Tables. Now Susan on
meat and Jessica on fish will start cranking out the mains. Over in the
blues, the apps are ready for the Chef's Tables... and now it's time for
entrees.
All of the chefs are working entrees now.
Barret serves cold shrimp on the Blues... Susan's chicken is out on the
floor awaiting its hungry diner. Next for her, lamb. That's a challenge.
And then... she DROPS THE LAMB. While Susan works on the lamb AGAIN, we
get to the Blues to serve the Chef's Table. Dan... we get it. You can
cook lamb. Now shut up about it. He's having the night of his life on
meat.
The Reds have served their Chef's Tables
en route to their final ticket... which is raw. The Blues are waiting on
two halibut to finish their dinner. Barret gives up the fish, and it
looks like he's about to give up the ghost. He forgot to take the paper
off of the halibut. Let's try that again.
Meanwhile, the women are on the brink of
finishing... a ticket that they've already finished, apparently.
Both kitchens serve their final dishes,
but no one is celebrating. And no one is winning this dinner service.
Both teams will nominate.
The women decide that Jessica sank the
team on fish re-fires. Susan also cost the team the win, as she failed
to communicate. Over with the men, Barret is singled out for his fish
performance. Barret singles out Ray for being old and slow on tableside.
But Ramsay is looking for the weakest
chefs... and for that, Anthony's more than willing to throw Dan under
the bus again.
ELIMINATION #6
Mary nominates Jessica (bad fish station) and Susan (inconsistent time
calling). Dan nominates ... himself ("I'm the weakest member of the
team, chef.") and Raymond (bad tableside).
Jessica says she's not done and has more
to prove. Susan guarantees that she's a fighter. Ray... can't run
tableside. Dan says he'll let his performance on the station speak for
himself.
Ramsay decides to relieve himself of...
JESSICA.
"When Jessica first arrived, I had high
expectations for her. Unfortunately, she let us both down."
