Today is

"Episode 2" - February 8

Things got off to a nice start last time, as Brian Traynor sold a $400 case for $109,000. Tonight, we continue Theresa Daranciang's game, where the mini mountie hopes to cash in with case #15.

This is what the board looks like at this time...

LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 400 $ 750,000

Theresa had just rejected a $31,000 offer, so she now opens 3...

#9 - $5,000
#3 - $50
#13 - Unlucky for some, but lucky for her! LOONIE!

That was a nice round for Theresa, so the banker, who wasn't expecting her to still be in the game, raises the offer...

BANK OFFER
$43,000

LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 400 $ 750,000

Looking at her supporters, Bernard is saying no deal, Alexi is saying deal, and Sara is saying no deal. Theresa concurs with... Bernard and Sara. NO DEAL!

2 to go this round...

#21 - $400
#20 - TOONIE!

Great round! That sends the offer in a predictable direction... Up.

BANK OFFER
$59,000

$ 5 $ 50,000
$ 25 $ 75,000
$ 200 $ 300,000

Her supporters are each saying the same thing as before. And so does Theresa. NO DEAL!

It's 1 case at a time, now.

#8 - They're chanting "low"... They got it! $200

I think it's safe to say that Theresa is on a roll. The banker knows it, and he wants her to take this offer, get off the stage, and leave him alone.

BANK OFFER
$78,000

$ 5 $ 50,000
$ 25 $ 75,000
$ 200 $ 300,000

Bernard wants Theresa to gamble. Alexi doesn't. Theresa is worried that the $300,000 might be in her case, but in the end, she decides to listen to Alexi this time.

DEAL for $78,000! Let's hope that the $300,000 wasn't in her case.

If Theresa were to continue, she'd have said #24, which had... $75,000. That would've lowered the offer to $66,000. Next would have been #18... $50,000 gone, sending the offer up to $94,000. #12 had... $5, which would've resulted in $161,000. Uh-oh. Theresa's case, #15, had...

$300,000

15

Theresa's Case

Not a good deal. #23 had $25. She was right to be worried.

Time for a new game, and a new player... Donald Lucas from Grimsby, Ontario! He's 85 years old, and yet, he's done quite a few things, like skydiving and whitewater rafting! He brought his whole family with him, most of which are in the audience, cheering him on.

Donald says "hi" to the ladies, who respond with "Hi, Grandpa!" He then picks #14 as his case, since he has 14 grandchildren.

14

Donald's Case

After a kiss from the model carrying that case (Jill), they get 6 of those other cases opened...

#17 - Bad start. $1,000,000
#9 - $25
#23 - $200,000
#2 - $100
#5 - $5,000
#21 - $750

Well, the million is already gone, but it's still early, and there's some big values still up there. So, the banker makes this first offer...

BANK OFFER
$22,000

$ .01 $ 750
LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 500,000
$ 400 $ 750,000
$ 500

$ 1,000,000

Donald consults his family, and they're saying no deal. He agrees before Howie can ask the question.

NO DEAL! 5 to open...

#4 - $100,000
#24 - He wants to see the toonie gone, but this is better. PENNY!
#15 - $75,000
#8 - There's the TOONIE!
#18 - $1,000

Definitely a better round. As a result, it went way up...

BANK OFFER
$64,000

$ .01 $ 750
LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 500,000
$ 400 $ 750,000
$ 500

$ 1,000,000

In the supporter area are one of his grandsons (name not mentioned), Laurie Beth (she says she's his favourite granddaughter, which the other granddaughters boo), and Katie (his youngest daughter). We also find out that Donald's a fan of hockey, but he couldn't get to many NHL games. Anyway, everyone is saying no deal, and he concurs.

NO DEAL! 4 more cases, now...

#10 - $400
#19 - $5
#22 - $200
#3 - $500,000

Great round, up until that last case. Let's see what direction the offer goes...

BANK OFFER
$47,000

$ .01 $ 750
LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 500,000
$ 400 $ 750,000
$ 500

$ 1,000,000

Donald thinks the banker deserves "2 minutes for cross-checking" for that, before noting that his booth does seem to resemble a penalty box. And since we're on the subject of hockey...

Here's Darryl Sittler, former captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs! He joins Donald on the stage, and he says he'd go for it. The supporters agree, and so does Donald. NO DEAL!

Darryl will be sticking around, sitting with the family, as Donald continues by opening 3...

#25 - There's chants of "loonie"... This ain't it. $750,000
#12 - $25,000
#11 - $300

A big value went away, so the offer goes down again...

BANK OFFER
$35,000

$ .01 $ 750
LOONIE $ 1,000
TOONIE $ 5,000
$ 5 $ 10,000
$ 10 $ 25,000
$ 25 $ 50,000
$ 50 $ 75,000
$ 75 $ 100,000
$ 100 $ 200,000
$ 200 $ 300,000
$ 300 $ 500,000
$ 400 $ 750,000
$ 500

$ 1,000,000

Donald's wife of 65 years says she'd do whatever he does. He then shuts the cover. NO DEAL!

2 to go...

#6 - $50
#20 - After some commercials... Oh, no... $300,000

Ouch. That's gotta hurt. It certainly hurt the offer...

BANK OFFER
$7,500

LOONIE
$ 10
$ 75 $ 10,000
$ 500 $ 50,000

He could still try for $50,000, and his supporters want him to do so. So he does.

NO DEAL! Entering "1 at a time" territory...

#26 - $10,000

The safety net for this one is gone, but the offer is up out of pity, according to the banker.

BANK OFFER
$10,000

LOONIE
$ 10
$ 75 $ 10,000
$ 500 $ 50,000

The $50,000 is the landmine now, and after a huddle with the supporters, Donald says... NO DEAL!

#1 - $75

Better. That sends the offer up again.

BANK OFFER
$14,000

LOONIE
$ 10
$ 75 $ 10,000
$ 500 $ 50,000

It's a risk, but Donald decides to continue pushing his luck, much to the dismay of the supporters. NO DEAL! And Darryl applauds.

#7 - $500

It's still getting better, to the point that the banker says, "Make this guy go away!"

BANK OFFER
$18,000

LOONIE
$ 10
$ 75 $ 10,000
$ 500 $ 50,000

There seems to be some mixed reaction from the family, but it's Donald's decision. And he has decided that he has gone far enough.

DEAL for $18,000! But was it a good deal?

Donald's case, #14, had...

$50,000

14

Donald's Case

So, it wasn't exactly a good deal, but with the kind of board he had, I don't blame him for taking the $18,000. #13 had $10, and #16 had the LOONIE.

That will do it for today. A new player will look for a great deal next week.
