Sedraks, ready for action! Vanderveers, on your marks! Let's start season nine of the Family Feud!

Sedrak (David, Brian, Dave, Sam, Ash)
$20,965, three games
Vanderveer (Andy, Joey, Kyle, Kristin, Adam)
Ft. Worth, TX

Round 1: a cowardly way to end a relationship (7). David swats the buzzer with over the phone... #5. Andy tries ignoring them... Not there. Brian goes with e-mail. That's cowardly enough for #1. Texting, Dear Johns, not calling, having a friend do it, and just plain leaving is enough for the sweep and 93.

Round 2: something that's harder to do in the morning if you've got a hangover (7). Joey fires with waking up for #1. Rest of the fam tries eating, going to work, and thinking. Going to the champs with a shower... Not there. Vanderveers get 87. Other answers: exercise, talk, brush teeth.

Double: a reality show you love to watch, but you don't want to be on (full board). Dave doesn't want to be "The Bachelor" for #5. Kyle would not step foot in the "Big Brother" house... Neither would a whopping 3 people. Sam gets the big one, "Survivor". "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars" are also there. The Vanderveers steal the points with the since-cancelled "Fear Factor" for 219.

Triple: something Mick Jagger has done with his life that you wish you could do (4). Sam gets women for #4. Kristin makes money for #2. Adam rocks out on stage for #1. Traveling does it for the win, 498-93.

Fast Money: Kyle & Kristin take the first $20,000 of the new season in nine questions.

In the nightcap, the returning Alvarez (Lourdes, Becky, Giselle, David, Alex; $20,000) take on the Sims (Rosalyn, Wallington, Leslie, Anita, Linda). Sims lead 211-0 going into the tripler: something that wanders (4). David tries children... counts under peole for #3. Anita gets the big one with the mind. Animals and eyes finish the champs off, 520-0.

Fast Money: Wallington & Rosalyn take the second $20,000 of the new year in eight.

Celebrating its 24th season on the air, THIS... IS... JEOPARDY!

Ben Taylor
orig. Rockford, IL
graduate student
$25,599
Keli Jackson
orig. Ft. Washington, MD
software testing manager
Dorothy Gilmartin
Weehawken, NJ
teacher

Ben had a heck of a break to decide what he's going to do with $25,000... but first, he must defend it again two femmes fatales.

He starts it off with $200 the 20th Century. At the first TV time out of the new season, Dorothy is in the lead with $3400 to Ben's $2600 and Keli's $2400.

Dorothy finds the first Daily Double of the new season under $1000 in the Bookstore. She bets half of her stash - or $2000 - on this: appropriately, part 3 of this 1953 novel is "Burning Bright". "What is 'Tiger Tiger'?" Nope, it's "Fahrenheit 451", leaving her with $2000. She makes it back and then some with $4200 at the half to Ben's $3600. Keli, with $3400, will go first in Double Jeopardy!...

... with Cable Channels for $400. Ben finds the first Daily Double under $1200 Moon "R"s. He bets $3400 to tie Keli on this: Saturn's second-largest moon, it's named for the mother of the gods. "Who is Rhea?" Right for the tie and $10,200! The last clue belongs to Keli under $2000 Flowers. With Ben at $11,000 and Dorothy at $8000, Keli bets just $1000 on the perennial whose bloom forms include spoon, quill & pompon. "What is a mum? Chrysanthemum?" Correct for $16,400. Not a runaway, but pretty good.

Final Jeopardy! in "Authors": in 1949 he wrote, "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever." Correct response: who was George Orwell (from "1984")?

Ben's right, doubling up. Keli's right... surpassing Ben by a dollar. She wins with $22,001. Ben leaves with $27,599.

Merv Griffin's Crosswords

You've all heard about it, and now it's finally here. Welcome to "Merv Griffin's Crosswords"! These are your first two solvers of our first game...

Neville Fogarty
New Jersey
student
Pam Ferterbar
Wisconsin
writer

The object is to complete a game-long crossword. Short-length clues are worth $100. Longer clues are worth $150 in round 1. First buzz-in gets first play, but answer incorrectly or run out of time, and we take away the value of the clue. Oh, and spelling counts. There are some surprises hidden on the board as well.

Neville solves the first of said surprises: "What's-for me" filler words for $100; - - I -. He guesses "INIT" on the "Crossword Getaway" and he's in it to win a trip to Las Vegas. He leads, $200-$0.

But Pam finds this round's "Crossword Extra". She can bet up to $500 (since she has only $200). Pam goes for $500 on this: Screened correspondence? - - A - -. She gets EMAIL for $700. At the end of the round, Pam has $950. Neville has $600 and the Vegas trip... But the game is about to change, because here comes trouble. It's SPOILER TIME!

Richard Ramit Scott

If you miss a clue, a spoiler (provided they buzz in first) can steal your cash, your prizes, AND your place in the game. Spoilers can also steal if they beat either of the solvers to the punch. Dollar values are doubled in the spoiler round.

Ramit becomes the first to spoil as she beats both solvers, choosing to inherit Pam's $1250. Neville gets a second Crossword Getaway with this clue for $200: Be sure to get more People? - - - - W. RENEW is good for the money and a trip to Palm Springs. He's up $1400. Pam spoils Neville with a $300 clue, giving her the two trips and $1800. Neville spoils right back... or as he says, "You're GONE, Pam!" He finds the Crossword Extra. He can bet up to $2000... He only goes $800 on this: In a Nielsen report; - - T - -. "Rates?" Nope, it was RATED. He's down to $1200, but he still has the trips. At the end of the round, Pam spoils Neville AGAIN, giving her $1400 and the trips to Ramit's $1150.

Round 3... Whoever has the most money at the end of this round wins. Scott spoils first as Neville moves to the spoiler row. Scott has $2000 and the trips. Richard, on the other hand, spoils Scott, gets $2200, and bets $1500 on this Crossword Extra: Flasher on New York streets; - - - -. Nothing. It was NEON, leaving Richard with $700. Neville gets Ramit's podium and $1250 to go with it. And *ascending synth hits* ... that means Neville wins, $1450 to $1000.

But can he complete the puzzle? He has 90 seconds to do so. If he does, he'll win today's grand prize of $2000 more and a trip to Antigua! At the last second, he gets "The third one is shocking (- A I L)" "Rail, R-A-I-L?" That'll do it for the win! He's going to Antigua with $3450!

The Cowboy has cowboys (K♥K♦) against Chris' paired 9s. Flop: 5-2-4. Chris calls all-in. Turn: J♣. The only thing that'll save Chris now is another 9. River... 8♠. One off, and Chris Ferguson is the first player out this week.

More poker next time.

Dinero Rápido: Lura pulls... "buena suerte". She and Scarlette get 119 for another $1000, giving them $1000.

Temptation: The New Sale of the Century
by Joe Mello

Air time: Check local listings
Host: Rossi Morreale
Website: www.seenontemptation.com

18 years after $ale of the Century left the air in the US, Temptation is here to take its place.  This new game of small cash and big prizes comes via Australia, but still contains everything we remember, and more.  Rossi Morreale is the host, and here are the contestants.

Linda
attorney/mother of two

Nancy
mother of three

Nicole
children's party entertainer

INSTANT CASH: $1,000

We start with 20 Temptation dollars for all and a 30-second speed round.  Each question is worth T$5 up or down.  Linda and Nicole both go up 10 each for a total of 30, followed by Nicole with 25.  It’s the former two that get the shot at the 1st Instant Bargain.  Who wants chocolate?  It’s chocolate cashmere wear, an LG white Chocolate cell, and a $500 supply of Godiva goodies totaling $997 but will go for only T$7.  Nancy pulls the trigger right off the bat, going down to T$23, but she gets nearly $1,000 in loot.  Rossi has some samples which get shared with the class.  Awwwww.

Now it’s the Fame Game for $15.  The puzzle fills in and the clues are read off, and Nancy gets KELSEY GRAMMER after 4 clues to go back into the sole lead with 38.

Next up, it’s Knock-Off.  One question, 12 choices, 9 right answers, lots of T-bucks.  The players will rotate, starting with Nicole picking answers until they’re wrong in which case they’re out.  The category: Schoolhouse Rock songs.  We get through one full circuit before Nicole screws up with “One of These Things” (Sesame Street).  Linda and Nancy go back and forth until Linda goes sour with “Believe in Yourself”, leaving the 10 and 15 for Nancy.  Can she pull them out?  Yes!  That extra T$25 takes her to 73, leaving Nancy behind with 43 and Nicole with 27.

Instant Bargain #2: A Dooney and Burke handbag worth $245, but will go for only T$15.  (Hmmm.  Something smells fishy.)  One handbag becomes two…then three…will Nancy deal in 5 seconds?  Yup.  She’s now up to $1700+ in stuff and her lead is halved, going down to 58.

Speed Round 2 has only two answers: meat or cheese.  Linda and Nicole close in with T$53 and 47 respectively, but Nancy broke even to have a T$5 lead for Instant Cash.  Two wallets have a C-Note and the other has a grand.  It’ll cost the lead, but she’ll go for it.  She picks the brown one and………she should’ve picked the white.  Tomorrow’s Instant Cash goes up to $1500.

With Linda and Nancy with 53 and Nicole with 47, we move to the final Speed Round.  Dollar values are doubled, which means anyone has a chance.  Linda takes the first three questions, which is good enough for the win with T$83.  Nancy leaves with her $1,832 in cash and prizes.  As for Nicole, well, she had a piece of chocolate, which is more than I had.

It’s off to Shopper’s Paradise with Linda where she could win these:

Novori Necklace+Earrings: $2000 | T$86

Broadway Trip: $3500 | T$225

Steel Kitchen Appliances: $6200 | T$375

Living Room Makeover: $11,195 | T$560

Jaguar X-Type: $35,590 | T$936

T$83 isn’t going to buy much, but Super Knock-Off could change all that.  This time, it’s 6 wrong, 6 right.  You can quit at any time or try to run off with the full T$250, but one misstep and you lose the bonus bucks.  Our SKO category: Married a Country Music Star.  Nancy gets Tim McGraw, Renee Zellweger, Lisa Hartman, and Julia Roberts for T$125 and 208, total, but Nancy really wants that trip to NYC.  She tries Nicole Kidman……right for 25, and that’s where she stops.  Amy Grant was the big hundo.

So Nancy has T$233.  Will she take the Trip to Broadway or come back tomorrow?  She’s off to the Big Apple for 4 nights via Orbitz, which means 3 new players tomorrow.

But first, a night cap.

Mark
Golf Pro

Desiry
Freelance Writer

Trhea
Shipping Clerk

INSTANT CASH: $3,500

After the opening Speed Round, Mark and Trhea tie with T$25 and Desiry is in the back with 15.  The 1st Instant Bargain is Canon Camera and digital picture frame via PriceGrabber and a package from All Pop Art worth $857 but will go for T$10.  No?  How about 8?  5 seconds…no sale.

Fame Game.  Trhea is able to get in during Clue 4 and correctly guess GOOD MORNING AMERICA for another T$15, and that’s her lead heading into Knock-Off: Happened in the 70’s.  3 answers are peeled off before Desiry goofs with Carl Lewis Wins Olympic Gold (’84).  Mark follows that up with another wrong answer, the Cats premiere.  Trhea’s left with 7 choices, and is able to get it down to 2.  Did the 1st U.S. Woman get into space?  1983!  The 1st car air bag was right and worth the 15, but Trhea has a massive 68-30-17 lead, so she gets the next Instant Bargain: a 1-year membership to Bally’s and a nylon gym bag worth $1385, but is only T$15 here.  HOWEVAH, Trhea balks, keeping a T$38 lead.

Speed Round #2.  The choices are bigger or smaller (than Texas’ land area).  Mark goes on an epic tear, answering ALL ELEVEN QUESTIONS CORRECTLY.  He goes up to T$85, which means he gets the chance at Instant Cash.  Will he give up T$17 for a nice paycheck?  Yep.  He picks the red one and……it was the brown.  Next time, it’s $4,000!

Mark and Trhea have 68, and Desiry has 17 heading into the Final Speed Round, but Mark seems to have all the momentum, and keeps it up, buzzing in on all 6 questions, answering 4 for 108 and a massive win.  The girls gots ta go, but Mark is off to Shopper’s Paradise where he could win this:

56” Samsung HDTV: $1859 | T$92

Bag Borrow or Steal 1-year Membership: $3300 | T$200

Pulaski 7-piece bedroom: $7562 | T$413

Croton Watch+10-day London Trip:

$8650 | T$654

Toyota Prius: $23,569 | T$850

The HDTV is in reach, but to go further today, we need Super Knock-Off.  The category: Cartoon Characters With Children.  Mark is able to get Fred Flintstone, Jane Jetson, Hank Hill, and Sylvester for 125 and that’s where we stop.  Simba was the big hundo and Princess Fiona was the other.

So Mark has T$223, which is good for the Netflix-for-purses membership and a couple of TV’s.  Will he smash the buzzer tomorrow or buy something?  He’s returning, so he’ll have to outlast two more competitors.  Will he get to the bedroom?  (HA!)  Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
by Don Harpwood

Air time: Check local listings
Host: Meredith Vieira
Website: www.millionairetv.com
It's time to get the 6th season of Millionaire started! You know how it's done, so let's do it!

Peggy Rees (Olathe, KS): She got engaged in 2002, got married in 2003, and had a baby in 2004, 2005, and 2006! As for 2007, well, she's here to try and win a million dollars!

Peggy is off to a good start here, easily securing the first $1,000. Moments later...

[$16,000]
The 2007 Showtime series "The Tudors" depicts the youthful escapades of what historic European ruler?
A: Henry VIII
B: Charlemagne
C: Louis XVI
D: Oliver Cromwell

She thinks she knows, but Peggy decides to ask the audience, since she's not certain. 78% are thinking A. Peggy goes with A... and they're all right!

[$25,000]
Vaduz is the capital of what small country?
A: Qatar
B: Bhutan
C: Togo
D: Liechtenstein

Peggy calls her friend, Jeff, but he doesn't come up with an answer in time. So, she uses the 50:50, leaving B and D. Peggy says B... but it's D! Darn. That means the first player of the season leaves with $1,000.

Wyatt McMahon (Lubbock, TX): He gives Meredith a miniature cotton bale from Texas Tech University, which has enough cotton to make a T-shirt. It turns out that he has been working with cotton, to try and make it better.

Of course, Wyatt didn't need any cotton to get through the lower tier, guaranteeing himself at least $1,000. Soon enough, though...

[$4,000]
"As-Salaam Alaikum," which means "peace be unto you," is a traditional greeting among whom?
A: Muslims
B: Orthodox Jews
C: Buddhists
D: Hindus

Wyatt polls the audience, and 81% are saying A. He goes with that... and it's A!

[$8,000]
To the chagrin of many fans, the 2007 finale of "The Sopranos" ended with Tony engaging in what decidedly un-mob-like activity?
A: Fixing a flat tire
B: Trimming hedges
C: Eating onion rings
D: Watching "60 Minutes"

The 50:50 leaves B and C. Wyatt goes with B... but it's C! Ouch. He leaves with $1,000 to end the first episode of the season.
