Cash Cab

Air time: 6p/5c on Discovery Channel
Host: Ben Bailey
Website

First fare of the new week is Eric & Earl, going to Brother Jimmy's. But they're not going to have any spending cash when they make it there, because they lose out on a Shoutout about 2000 Flushes.

Next, Andy & Amanda head to West 18th between Fifth & Sixth. Their $450 triggers a Red Light Challenge: four Japanese motorcycle makers. Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha give them $700. They win $1100 at the last second thanks to a Mobile Shoutout. But that's as far as they go.

Phil, Juan & Ingrid head uptown to H&H Bagels at 88th & Broadway. Their Red Light Challenge: four nations repeating as host of soccer's World Cup. Germany, France, Italy, and Mexico are right for $550. Thanks to a Street Shoutout, they win $1050. That'll buy a lot of bagels.

Tami Bahat
Tel Aviv, Israel
Leche Taylor
Los Angeles
Amy Bandian
Detroit

Tami's what we call a "repeat offender". She was last seen on a special Presidential look-alike episode of "Win Ben Stein's Money" (she played Chelsea).

We start the Hustle with Jodi Lyn O'Keefe from "Prison Break", "Studio 60's" Steven Weber, "Nip/Tuck's" Kelly Carlson, Ne-Yo, and Taylor Swift. Tami leads with 300 against Leche's 200 and Amy's 100.

Time for Who Said It, where we learn that "The Office's" Melora Hardin was a serious ballerina, Joey McIntyre had Korean fans hiding in his bathroom, and that Dean Cain's friends call him "Big Daddy."  Tami has the lead still with 700 to Amy's 500 and Leche's 400.

After the Speed Round, Amy rushes back to win 1700 against Tami's 1600. Leche's for 700. But will she do right by John Travolta in the Storm Again Round? Sure does. She wins $5000 cash money.

Lisa ended last week as champ. But this is a completely different beast altogether.

Lisa Schumaker
Silver Spring, MD
medical research assistant
$39,000, two days
John Byrne
Watertown, MA
student affairs director
Sara Boretz
Upland, CA
project research coordinator

Lisa starts the game with $200 In Pursuit of “Happy Days”. At the TV time out, John is out in front with $4600 to Lisa’s $1400. Sara is $400 down.

John finds the Daily Double under $400 One of the 7 Deadly Sins. He fronts $1000 on this: phonetically it sounds like 2 letters of the alphabet. “What is lust?” Nope, it was envy, leaving him with $4800. He moves up to $6600 to Lisa’s $7000. And Sara, with $200 in the red, starts up Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Oscar-Winning Movie Synopses. $1200 Explorers is the first Daily Double. Lisa finds it and bets $1600 on this: this Italian explorer in the service of France may have “narrowly” visited the Maryland region in 1524. “Who is... da Gama?” Nope, it was Verrazano, leaving her with $8300. She gets a shot to recover with $800 Nonfiction. She bets $1000 on this: “The Nine” in a 2007 book by CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin refers to the 9 of these. “What are Supreme Court justices?” Correct for $14,900! She holds on to lead with $18,900 against John’s $17,400. Sara can play spoiler with $4200.

Final Jeopardy! in “The Social Sciences”: coined in 1899, this word suggests that things like rivers & boundaries affect nations’ foreign affairs. Correct response: what is geopolitics?

Sara is the only one correct, while the other two bet against each other. Sara gets the spoiler win with $8199. Lisa leaves with $41,000.

Ruben Mancias
California
High school teacher
Katie Spangle
Massachusetts
Media specialist

We're reaching into the vaults for this new show, taped in the Getaway era, hence why Katie is going to San Francisco after solving clue #2. Ruben, though, finds the Extra in this round. He goes yard on this: cosmetician Lauder (- - - E -). ESTEE gives him the lead at round's end, $600-$350... but if you want to San Fran, you can always spoil Katie... Speaking of...

Dave Jean Richard

Katie gets the Extra in round 2, betting $450 on this: courageous film star Christopher (- - - - E). REEVE? Too easy. She doubles up to $900. Meanwhile Jean learns the hard way that spelling counts. Katie drops to a still-ahead $600 to Ruben's $300.

Who wants to go to Australia? Here's your Crossword Extra at Home...

Qantas Airways is "the - - - - - - of Australia": a) spirit b) friend c) center.

Text your answer to 27677 or play for free at crosswords.tv

Ruben finds the third Extra of the game, fronting $450 on this: Maverick of "Maverick" (4)... Nothing on BRET. Ruben's still in the lead, but with $750 to $700 for Katie, it's just. He builds his stack back to win, $1050 to $700. All three spoilers... NO action.

Ruben's headed to Antigua with another $2000 if he can finish the puzzle in 90 seconds. This shouldn't be hard, judging on the squares left. Last clue... porticos of Greek architecture (S T O - S)... Once wrong. Twice wrong. Three times... out of time. What the heck was that word? STOAS! Of course! Anyway, Ruben leaves with $1050.

Poker After Dark

Air time: 2:05a/1:05c on NBC
Hosts: Marianela Pereyre & Oliver "Ali" Nejad
Website

What do these six poker stars have in common? Other than the fact that none of them were at the WPT season six premiere earlier tonight? They all like to take charge at the table. Thus was born... Jam-Up Week.

David Williams
$20,000
Howard "The Professor" Lederer
$20,000
Mike "The Mouth" Matusow
$20,000
Barry Greenstein
$20,000
Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari
$20,000
Eli Elezra
$20,000
BLINDS: $100/$200

Howard starts with a big pair, pocket rockets. Barry raises with 10-4. Eli goes all-in with Big Slick (Ah-Kc). Howard calls, and one hand in, someone's going home. Flop: 5-K-8. Helps Eli a little... VERY little. Turn: 2d. River: Qh. That'll do it for Eli, as Howard starts with $42,500.

Now this is quite interesting, because for this week, there is a kickback rule saying that anyone who craps out in the first six hands can rebuy for $20,000 more. That's precisely what Eli has done, as this week's take has risen to $140,000.

Action cools until we have a four-handed flop: 10-K-2. David flops the best hand: 10s with an Ace kicker. Barry is close behind with 10s and a King kicker. Then Mike with 8s... who drops out. We're down to heads up. Turn: 3c. Barry bets $1500, while Antonio talks about giving us a good show. David does just that, raising to $3500. Barry mucks his hand, and David picks up $8600.

Barry plays Q-J against Antonio's K-10. Flop: 9-7-8. That gives both players a straight draw; Antonio can complete it with a 6 or a Jack. Barry needs a 10. Turn: Js. Straight for Antonio, a pair for Barry. Quick check. Quicker bet with $10,000 on the line. Barry throws it away, and Antonio wins.

Eli plays suited A-8s against Mike's 9s. Flop: 6-8-2. Mike raises. Turn: 2h. A bet and a call.... and Mike's throwing his hand out before we see the river. "You ain't gonna bust me again with these (^_^)ing hands." Mike DQs his hand, and Eli picks up $12,500 out of nowhere.

Barry calls all-in with Jacks against Antonio's Eli special... A-J. Flop: 4-K-4. That gave Antonio two pair. Turn: 10c. River: 6d. No mulligans here. It's time for Barry Greenstein to go to the house.

Our night of action ends with Eli with Q-8 against Mike's Q-J. Flop: 5-10-10. Mike could take this hand, but he mucks out, as Eli takes a pot and is still in the game. Will that change tomorrow? Stay tuned...

We're baaaaack.

John Pivasan, Wendy Keys, Tami Morino, and Tracy Weaver get action going with soccer equipment, go Galaxy. It goes for $2100, and Wendy gets a shot at a fireplace marked at $1939 and an ATV marked at $1599. Of course, these aren't the real prices, because this is Barker's Bargain Bar. She goes for the ATV. The fireplace is actually $3239. The ATV is $2599. $1300 beats $1000, and we're not doing too well to start.

Nathan Raynor is down and up with a $2800 pool table (new cutie alert in Amber Lancaster, former Wild'n Out Girl). Will he win a chafing dish? Will he win a Ford Focus? Will he win the contents of Drew & Rich's piggy bank? "I don't know, that chafing dish looks pretty good." First number in the car is 1 The 7... chafing dish. The 5... also in the buffet server. The 6, 4, 9, and 2... ALL in the car.

We're one-and-one, and John will try to make it two-and-one after scoring a $1180 gemstone globe. The game in which he'll try to get the W... Bonkers. The prize for success: a trip to Sedona, which is not $5346. He goes low, high, high, low. EASY. $3980 was the price.

Nathan, the Kent State dropout, wins at the Wheel, which is moved to right in front of door #2 for some reason. Tracy gets a $500 wad for an $800 exercise bike. Next up, dining room with dinnerware. Grocery Game on tap. First purchase: seven Hot Pockets. Each one is $2.49. A week's worth is $17.43. Next, one V8... check this out, $3.15. $20.58 is a win.

Wilbert Severin, Jr. takes a $650 hall chest and sweeps the side game on Five Pricetags for a $25 steam iron, a $150 MP3 turntable, a $20 webcam, and a $150 donut maker (C-Note: that's gonna be a thing. Watch). The only problem... winning the $20,635 Dodge Avenger on offer. (C-Note: this loss shouldn't have happened. Two of the prices, $21,872 and $22,962, didn't end in 0 or 5, where you'd go FIRST).

Last chance for Tami, who looked to have fought for the last spot at the top of the show. The final IUFB: camping equipment. Price: $960. Winner... Mary Temple. She gets a shot at a bed with sleep set on Squeeze Play. 47298 is the board. She withdraws the 7... should've withdrawn the 2. It was $4798.

Wilbert spins the win in Showcase Showdown #2. First up, a living room with carpeting, luggage, and a trip to China. Top winner Nathan passes to Wilbert, who bids $14,000. Nathan gets our back... with a massage chair, the "Back to the Future" trilogy with home theatre setup including an HDTV, and a Ford Mustang. Nathan backs his up with a bid of $26,000. Actual price: $30,216, a difference of $4216. Actual price of Wilbert's Showcase... $16,129 for a win of $17,124!
