More GSC Goodies -
January 13
This past Wednesday night, the Game Show Congress met up
for our monthly meeting for this years Game Show
Congress. In case you are one of the many new people who
are visiting this site and you dont know what the Game
Show Congress is, its a convention that celebrates the
best in game shows, both in a Best of the Year and a
Lifetime format. This would be the fifth annual meeting
of the event, which started out in Colorado and now is
located in Los Angeles.
I am happy to tell you that there are many new things
that I can discuss about the event. The most important
one is that both the date and the time have been
finalized. The information is as follows
The Fifth Game Show Congress
Date - July 13-16, 2006
Location - Hilton Burbank Airport & Convention Center
2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank, California, United States
91505-1019
Tel: +1-818-843-6000 Fax: +1-818-842-9720
Lets first talk logistics. It would cost around $109 a
room a night, and with taxes, around $350 for three
nights (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). Thats a pretty
good deal by itself, but to make it even better, I would
suggest to go with a bunch of people and split the cost.
Last year, myself, Chico, Jason Block and Ryan Vickers
all split the cost for a week and we wound up splitting
it 4 ways for around $300 a person. This year, it would
even be cheaper the cost for the week would be around
$900, which would be only around $225 for a 4 person
split. Add plane fare (which would have to be less than
around the $300 that Jason and I spent on air fare) and
you are talking about spending a week in LA for less
than $500. That is a very reasonable price and you
have 7 months to save up for it.
We will have much more for you next month in terms of
activities, but heres what I can divulge now Both
Thursday and Friday will be primarily devoted to the
Game Show Tournament. On Friday Night, we may also be
having a special presentation of an event at the Hilton
that we saw live last year. The 15th or the 16th will
have one of the special honorees of the Congress (but I
cant say who
.yet
) while the Tournaments playoffs
will conclude on Saturday and the finals and All Star
games to be played on Sunday. Sunday is also going to be
industry panel day, starting with WLTI (YAY!) at 8am and
running with awards and other events.
Now if youve been reading all of our diaries over the
years, you know darn well that for us, the Congress
isnt just those four days. What makes this fun is the
camaraderie aspect and the opportunity to go on various
field trips (television tapings, amusement parks,
casinos, etc.). Well, with the event now moved up to
July, I am happy to announce that there will be more
game show events than ever to participate in. The Price
Is Right tapes July 12-13, 17, 18 and 19 (and yes, Mary
Baileys popcorn popper is in the middle of her dining
room), and while the schedules for the other games
(Wheel, Jeopardy, Family Feud, etc.) arent up yet, its
pretty certain that some sort of taping will be going on
during that time whether its classic shows, renewals
of Summer programming from CBS or FOX or something that
we dont know about yet. Expect to go on many excursions
for the week and even possibly more than one per day!
Finally, we here at GameShowNewsNet.com stress family.
If you are coming down, please let us know. Wed love to
meet you and wed love to have you hang out with us. Our
official party time will be from Wednesday, July 12
through Wednesday, July 19. If you dont know anyone,
thats fine none of us knew anyone when we first came
down. Wed love to invite you to our party.
Next week, Ill answer any questions that you all may
have on the GSC, as well as impressions on the new shows
of the season.
Gordon Pepper stives himself on being the party host
with the most. Email him at gordon@gameshownewsnet.com. |
