Elizabeth Miller is a 28 year old stay at
home mom. She also starts off this week on 5th Grader. Zach is ot noe of
her kids - he's the first helpful student in the class.
4th Grade Literature: First published in 1908, what classic children's
book by Kenneth Grahame featured the characters Rat, Mole, Toad and
Badger? It's a great book - The Wind in the WIllows. Elizabeth says...Rapunzel?
Wha? No. Can we get an early save from Zach? yes we can. Total: $3,500.
4th Grade Vocabulary: Which of the following words is in the simple
past? Given, Sewed, Shown. She goes with Sewed, and she's right. Total:
$7,000.
5th Grade U.S. Geography: The names of how many U.S. state capitals
contain the word 'City'? Elizabeth goes with 4 and names...the wrong
cities. But it's numbers they want, and in this case, she happened to
get the 4 correct. Wow. Total: $12,000.
Zach will no longer be part of the lucky streak. Malachi will see if
Elizabeth can keep her money intact.
3rd Grade Ancient History: During the Ice Age, North America was
connected to which continent via a land bridge that now no longer
exists? Elizabeth goes with Asia - which is right. Total: $14,500.
5th Grade Geometry: For an isosceles triangle whose interior angles are
all positive integers, what's the greatest number of degrees a single
interior angle can be? An isosceles triangle has 2 equal sides. 180 - 2
= 178. That's your answer. That's what Elizabeth came up with, and she's
right again! Total: $19,500.
2nd Grade Grammar: True or False: A topic sentence can never be the
first sentence in a paragraph. That's absolutely false, and Elizabeth
knows it. Right again! That's 6 in a row! Total: $20,500.
Malachi has to go to his desk. Danielle shows up to lead Elizabeth to
$25,000.
3rd Grade U.S. History: True or False: President Benjamin Harrison was
the son of U.S. President William Henry Harrison. Elizabeth thinks
Benjamin was the grandson, not son, so she goes with false. She is
absolutely...RIGHT! Total: $23,000.
Only 3 subjects to go.
2nd Grade Animal Science: Snowshoe and Cottontail are both varieties of
what long-eared mammal? That would be a bunny rabbit. That's what
Elizabeth says and she's right again! Total: $24,000.
2 subjects to go.
1st Grade Social Studies: Danielle's visiting the Statue of Liberty, a
national monument. What city is she in? It's New York, New York!
Elizabeth, just to make sure she's right, decides to peek. Danielle says
New York City. Elizabeth agrees. Everyone is right! Total: $24,500.
1 last subject for $25,000.
1st Grade Measurements: In the U.S., the holiday of Thanksgiving takes
place during which of the four seasons? Of course it's Autumn. Elizabeth
has a Copy, but she doesn't need it. She says Fall and she has just run
the table! Total: $25,000.
But will she go for the big one? The subject: World History. She decides
to..GO FOR IT!!!! The question: In 1804, an Army composed primarily of
former slaves defeated their colonial masters to form what modern
Caribbean country? She first thinks Cuba (which is wrong), but the goes
with Haiti...which is...RIGHT! ELIZABETH MILLER IS THE FIRST $250,000
WINNER IN SYNDICATED 5TH GRADER!!!!! And she gets to be the first
person in Syndication to say she IS smarter than a 5th grader. Can we do
it tomorrow? We'll see then.
It's Bride week! We have 5 blushing
brides! They are all on their way to the altar, but they are stopping
over at 5th Grader's first before saying their nuptuals. After hearing
something from her man, hospital administrator Jean Hopson will try to
say 'I Do' to some cash. Pablo is her first suitor.
3rd Grade World History: In Ancient Rome, which of the following were
the elite citizens who were wealthy and owned land? Centurions,
Patricians or Plebetians? Jean quickly locks in the Patricians - and
she's right! Total: $2,500.
5th Grade U.S. History: What U.S. President signed the Civil Rights Act,
the Voting Rights Act and Medicare into law? She goes with Lyndon B.
Johnson...right again! Total: $7,500.
4th Grade Social Studies: Which of these is the national flag of
Australia? We see 3 flags, and Jean picks...the one from the UK. Wrong.
Pablo picks the one from...Australia! Total: $11,000.
Pablo can no longer save Jean, because it's off to the desks. Annalise
gets to play now.
2nd Grade World Geography: If Pablo visits the Sahara Desert, what
continent is he going to? He's going to Africa. Jean says Africa, and
she's right! Total: $12,000.
3rd Grade U.S. Geography: Bozeman and Missoula are two of the most
populous cities in what U.S. state? This one stumps her, so Jean uses
her Copy. Annalise says Montana. That's...the right answer! Total:
$14,500.
4th Grade Astronomy: What planet in our solar system is named for the
winged messenger of the Roman gods? That's Mercury. Jean thinks so.
She's got 6 in a row right. Total: $18,000.
Annalise is donne with the help. She sits down. Madison will help Jean
for the rest of the journey.
5th Grade Grammar: How many words are grammatically incorrect in the
following sentence: 'Between you and I, I prefer eating wedding cake to
dancing on the floor'? Jean wants to Peek at Madison's paper, which says
'1'. She'll go with 1. That's...right again! Total: $23,000.
3 subject away from running the table. But the last 3 Jean will have to
get on her own.
1st Grade Anatomy: What organ of the human body found in the mouth
contains the taste buds? She goes for the tongue, which is no lip
service. Total: $23,500.
Only 2 away from the big money.
1st Grade Measurements: What's the last month of the U.S. calendar year
to contain only 30 days? 30 Days Hath September, April, June and
NOVEMBER. That's the right answer. Jean says...November too! Total:
$24,000.
1 More to go for $25,000.
2nd Grade Vocabulary: True or False: Translucent is a word that means
'does NOT allow light to pass through'. Actually, it's the reverse...and
Jean knows it for the money! Total: $25,000!
Now we've already had a $250,000 winner today. Will we have a shot at 2?
We will...not. Despite the category being World History, Jean, after a
chat with her husband-to-be Charlie (who tells her to take the money and
get her butt over to the church), drops out with $25,000, which will get
a ton of honeymoon fun.
NIGHTCAP!
Malia Rivera is a marketing consultant. She's never cheated in her life,
but that's going to change as she plays for $250,000. She uses all 3
cheats and gets to 25 G's...but doesn't risk it and drops out. So 3
shows, $300,000 given out on a very sweet Monday. Join us tomorrow to
see if we can match or surpass it. |

For some reason, we're seeing episodes out of order
again....seeing the Harriss family as returning champs taking on
the Walberg family. This maybe because of next week's Halloween
shows that go towards it.
Harriss (Alexa,
Todd, Adam, Jody, Steve)
San Diego
total unknown, three days |
Walberg (Erin,
Michelle, Becki, Shirley, Renee)
Annandale, MN |
Bullseye Round:
$1000: slang term for eating a lot. Neither came up with a.....
PIGGING OUT/PIG.
$2000: a creature that might be too afraid to come out of its
shell. Michelle gets $2000 from a TURTLE.
$3000: something that starts with the word "junk". Not Junk yard
or Junk dog...it was.... JUNK FOOD.
$4000: Who is the best known kid now on TV? Another stumper as
neither knew it was...... MILEY CYRUS.
$5000: a famous Judy. Steve rounds it out with JUDY GARLAND for
$20,000, the Walbergs only $17,000.
Single (7): who do you think is the
most envied man in America? Alexa fires with Brad Pitt for #1.
Rest of the champs get Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and
George Clooney. Will Hugh Hefner do it for the Walbergs? Yes they
will for 86. Other answer: David Beckham.
Double (full boards): something people fall into. Michelle goes
with the Russian Roulette special. A hole is #1. A trap, a pool,
love, money, and debt are also there. The Harrisses can keep their
hopes alive with bed. Nope. Walbergs go to 240. Other answers:
rut, bad habits.
Triple (full boards): someone in a
courtroom who is completely innocent. Adam fires with the judge
for the big one. The champs also get the bailiff, the jury, and
the stenographer. Walbergs can shut it out with the witnesses...
Winners, 492-0! Other answers: plaintiff/victim, the defendant,
the family.
Michelle &
Becki had a little rally playing for $17,000 in Fast Money, but
Michelle took a bad turn on the boring sport just making a guess
on saying lacrosse. The only get $885. |

New week, new champ. How long will
Kevin last?
Kevin Wilson
Toronto
communications specialist
$31,199 |
Matt Blackwood
Gulfport, MS
middle school math teacher |
Valerie Vicroy
Pismo Beach, CA
caterer |
Kevin starts with $200 "Room", with
Matt finding the Daily Double under $800 Tea. He makes it a true
Daily Double for $400 more... because it's meant to be served on
coffee tables, not dining tables, it's the alternate 2-word name
for afternoon tea. "What is sitting room?" Nope, it's low tea,
dropping him back to zero, but the night is young.
After Matt pinballs over the board,
he ends up with $3000 to Kevin's $4600. Valerie has $1400 and the
first pick in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Animal Subtraction.
Kevin stays on the straight and narrow, while Matt elects to go
category hopping. So who finds the first Daily Double? Kevin,
under $1600 Animal Subtraction. He wagers $2000 on this: subtract
a letter from this noisy bird & you get a list of players on a
team. "What is a rooster?" Correct for $9400! Kevin finds the
other under $2000 Let's Talk About the Weather. He bets $4000 on
this from Kelly... "Named for the direction from which they come,
much of our weather is carried across the United States and Canada
by these dominant winds, between 30 and 60 degrees latitude."
"What are westerlies?" That... would've been right, but Kevin went
the other way with easterlies, leaving him with $20,200. He goes
back to $21,400, and with Bouncing Matt at $9800 and Valerie at
$2600, it's Kevin's game to lose. Let this be a reminder... if
you're going to bounce, make sure you know what you're doing.
Final Jeopardy! in "Notable
Women": when Galveston was devastated by a hurricane in 1900,
she traveled 1500 miles to head up the relief effort. Correct
response: who was Clara Barton?
Only Valerie would get it right,
but the $19,800 that Kevin has left is enough to make him a
two-time champ with $50,999. |

Let's Make a Deal
by Gordon Pepper
Air time: 10a/9C OR 3p/2C on CBS

On the Web:
cbs.com/letsmakeadeal |
Good/Bad Deals - Today: 5-4
Good/Bad Deals - This week: 13-15
Good/Bad Deals - This season: 45-30
Zonks: 11
Audience Choices: 2-0
Big Deals: 2-6
Big/Medium/Small Deals: 2/2/4
Total for the day (sans audience promos): $35,478
Total for the week (sans audience promos): $85,803
Total for the season (sans audience promos): $270,373 |
You know how the game is played,
right? Right. Let's get started with Tina (Marionette) and Stacie
(Las Vegas Flapper). Wayne gives the ladies 2 checkbooks. One of
the checks is 4 times the amount of the other check. Leslie can
trade her check for Curtain #1. She does and gives up $800. She
gets instead a refrigerator and oven combo worth $3,428! Wow. So
Stacey has a check worth either $3,200...or $200. Stacie will keep
the checkbook and gives up 2 sheep on a Zonk Bed. (ZONK!) Inside
Stacie's check...$3,200! Good deals by both in the opener.
Wayne has something in the small box that's American. That belongs
to Amy, who sells it for $1,000. Inside the small box...keys to a
NEW FORD MUSTANG WORTH $24,990!!!!! Amy thought it was a car, and
it was, but she has a grand.
Who's up for a Trip to Cannes worth $7,051? Jonathan has 3
spellings of the word 'Au Derves' (That's the Americanized
pronunciation). If Vanessa (soft serve ice cream) and Joshua
(Turkey) can get the right spelling, they win the trip...or they
can quit with a handbag with $500 for a total of $2,195 to stop
right now. They take the sure thing. Their spelling of 'Hors
D'ouveurs'...is wrong. The right spelling is 'Hors D'Oeuvres'...
which is what it feels like as we progress towards the main
course. We need 3 traders for this deal. Janice (pig), Yenny
(cheerleader) and Heather all get some money. Heather gets $1,000,
Yenny gets $1,000, and Janice gets...nothing yet. Heather can
spend her $1,000 o the box. Whatever she doesn't get goes to
Janice. Heather keeps the cash, so Janice gets a his and hers
tennis set worth $2,549. Now Yenny can spend her $1,000. Yenny
does trade and gets a 58 inch TV worth $2,300! So Janice has
$3,549 worth of stuff...which she can trade for the curtain. She
thinks there's another car, so she trades. There's no car, but
there is an outdoor barbecuee grill and outdoor furniture set and
$2,000 for personalization worth $7,245! That's a great deal for
Janice.
Charlotte is a green M&M. Allison bring a box that is
'Australian'. Wayne offers her the same $1,000 and once again, she
takes it. Charlotte gives up some shrimp and a mini-barbecue (ZONK!).
Good move for Charlotte.
Gary (One Night Stand - a real wooden stand with a book on 'How to
Pick up Chicks'. Clever) is playing next. He can get the current
value of one ounce of gold, or 2 ounces of platinum. Gary takes
the platinum. The gold was worth...$1,003. He can go for the
platinum of go for the Big Box. He bails out for the Platinum,
worth...$2,560. Gary can have one more shot of Curtain #1, and the
clue is a 'form of transportation'. He goes for the
transportation, which means he foregoes a fake barbel set (ZONK).
Gary gets a Waverunner worth $8,299! Not only is that a nice
prize, it puts him at the top of the leaderboard.
But before we get there, let's say hi to Julie (Matador Cape). We
have another small box with 'Canada' on it. Wayne once again
offers $1,000, but Julie wants the box. Julie would love to go to
'Alberto', Canada (Wha? - that's Albert-A). She gets...a Trip to
Vancouver! It's not Alberto, but I'm guessing the trip worth
$7,019 will be fun, too.
But what's more fun would be a deal worth $29,300. Let's see who
is up to win it:
TRADE LIST
Gary: $8,299
Janice; $7,245
Julie: $7,019
Tina: $3,428
Stacie: $3,200
Yenny: $2,549
Joshua/Vanessa: $2,195
Amy: $1,000
Heather: $1,000
Charlotte: $1,000
Will Gary get rid of his Waverunner for a shot at the doors? Yes
he will! He goes for Door #3. Behind door #2...a new motorcycle
worth $6,099. Next is Door #...3, which is the Vault worth $1,776.
It's cash, but it's not The Big Deal, which today had a Volkswagen
worth $29,300! We start the week with a thud. Let's see if we can
do better tomorrow. |

$24,572? Nope, but she has two right. $24,354? Nope... It was
$22,374. Andrew Allen gets a

Is it $8694 or $9486? He goes with $8694.... which is right.
Kristine Hall, a hearing-impaired

this game into a recipe for a nice peanut butter pie. One Ready
Crust pie crust, five Cool Whip toppings, two jugs of milk, three
Jell-O instant vanilla puddings, and one Skippy peanut butter
equals a pie for you... and $20.98 for Kristine!
(C-Note: for the recipe, either
find it on cbs.com/tpir... It's gotta be there somewhere, even if
it's the whole episode)
Both Kristine and Tanesha win $1000
on the Big Wheel, so we go into Bonus Spinoff mode. Tanesha spins
out 35. Kristine spins out... 30. By a centimeter, Tanesha moves
on.
Erminia Duran steps into the hot
spot and out of it with a $1399 fridge. Now for two more prizes
that go together, a wine cabinet and a trip to Santa Barbara. The
1 Right Price: $3550. She goes with the wine cabinet... and it's
$3550!
Someone else finally gets on stage.
In this case, it's Amanda and a $940 cell phone with a year of
service. Now can she win a Hyundai Sonata in Pocket Change to go
with it? She has a price of $20,915 to work from, and $1.25 to
build to. She has a quarter... 50 cents... a nickel... another
quarter... and a dime. $1.15 is not enough.
Last chance for both Chris and
Nancy with a stereo system with iPod. Actual price: $599.
Winner... with a bid of $595, it's Nancy! She gets a gas grill and
a camper in Secret X. Unfortunately, she only gets the freebie, so
she's automatically done. For the record, the Secret X was at the
top. If it's any consolation, she does win the second Showdown.
First Showcase is a tribute to
man-made marvels like Mount Rushmore, the Panama Canal (a cruise
thereof), and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Top winner Tanesha passes
to Nancy, who bids $15,000. Tanesha's Showcase is for daredevils,
and it starts with a motorcycle, a trip to Air Combat USA in Las
Vegas, a snowmobile, and a waverunner. She bids $30,000. Actual
price: ... $28,105. She's over. Actual price of Nancy's
Showcase... $29,144. She's your big winner today with a total of
$29,743. |

Allison Sobel (Lynbrook, NY) - 6th
Grade teacher
:15 - Reality TV, Gadgets, Condiments, Interjections, The Supreme
Court
:30 - U.S. History, Holidays, At the Bookstore, WHO, Documentaries
:45 - Noble Titles, Toys & Games, Regional Cuisine, Unusual
Animals, Nostradamus
Allison makes it through the lower tier, then sees this...
[$7,500] (U.S. History)
After twenty-three years of occupation, the U.S. military returned
what Pacific island to the Japanese in 1968?
A: Guam
B: Iwo Jima
C: Guadalcanal
D: Midway
Allison asks the audience, and 43% are thinking B, while 30% are
thinking A. Allison goes with B... and she's right!
[$15,000] (WHO)
In 2009, the World Health Organization reported that women in what
country have the highest life expectancy, an average of 86 years?
A: Monaco
B: Italy
C: Sweden
D: Japan
Though she thinks she knows, Allison asks the Expert, and this
week, it is the man who won 74 games on Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings!
Ken says he has some vague memory of this, thinking it's either A
or C, but he's leaning more towards A. Allison then uses the
Double Dip. Her first answer is A... which is wrong. Her second
answer, with 7 seconds left, is C... which is also wrong! It's D!
Ouch. That means Allison leaves with $5,000.
Michael Salerno (Weehawken, NJ) - Attorney
:15 - Raw Materials, Breakfast Cereals, Superheroes, Fishing,
Fraud
:30 - The Middle East, Finance, Shoes, NASA, Psychology
:45 - '60s Music, South America, Out in Space, Down Under, Honest
Abe
Michael sweeps the lower tier, then moments later, he faces
this...
[$12,500] (Shoes)
Which of the following is the name of a common type of
medium-heeled shoe worn by both men and women?
A: Cuban heel
B: Brazilian heel
C: Mexican heel
D: Panamanian heel
He thinks he knows, but Michael asks the audience to be safe. 60%
say A. That's what he thought, so he goes with them... and they're
right!
[$15,000] (NASA)
What U.S. president signed into law a bill that formed NASA from
the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics?
A: Franklin Roosevelt
B: Harry Truman
C: Dwight Eisenhower
D: John Kennedy
Michael asks the Expert. Ken is pretty sure it's not D, and he's
60% sure it's either B or C, but he can't rule out A, either. He
then reasons out that C is more likely. Michael then goes with the
Double Dip. His first answer is C... which is right! And there's
the horn; Michael goes for $25,000 (and possibly more) tomorrow! |
