Ferrell (Katie, Nate, Brett, Chris, Vicki) Bibbs (Sonny, Natasha, Andrew, Nikita, Crystal)
Nashville
$20,000

Round 1: something you might serve for dinner that starts with "baked" (5). Katie is in with baked potatoes for #1. No love for the rest of the family, though. The Bibbs try to steal with baked chicken. I've had it. So have 14 people for 47. Other answers: baked beans, baked ham, baked lasagna.

Round 2: the name of a song with the word "Happy" in it (5). Natasha gets #2, "Happy Birthday". Crystal gets #5, "Happy Together." Let's go to the Ferrells for the steal. The choice is "Happy Trails to You." Not there! Bibbs have 83. Number one: "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Other answers: "Happy Days Are Here Again", "Shiny Happy People."

Double: a movie in which John Travolta dances (5). Brett comes down with Saturday Night Fever for #1. Hairspray and Pulp Fiction follow. The Bibbs try to steal with Grease... Grease is the word for 215. Other answer: Staying Alive.

Triple: a state that's famous for its fruit (4). Nikita gets #1, Florida. Georgia, California, and Washington sweep the board for the game, 509-0.

Fast Money: Natasha & Crystal score 178 for $890, $20,890 total.

In the nightcap, the Paynes (Scot, Kelli, Eliz, Trevor, Kambria; $1800) are challenged by the Cox family (Kim, Andrea, Stephani, Linda, Antoinette). The Cox lead, 124-90. Triple: something you love to smell in the morning (4). Trevor gets the top answer, coffee (or breakfast). Perfume, fresh air, and flowers win the game for the champs, 369-124.

Fast Money: Eliz & Kambria get 167 for $835 more, giving them $2635.

Kevin's got a lot to work from, but will these two players keep him from getting a little bit more?

Kevin Martin
Bowling Green, OH
emergency room physician
$17,800
Lateefah Torrence
New York City
writer
Richard Johnson
Washington, DC
foreign affairs officer

Kevin starts with $200 What Are You Made Of? Richard starts by sweeping & The Emmy Goes To... He also finds the Daily Double under $600 Museums. He bets $1500 on this: NYC's MoMA is the Museum of Modern Art; LA's MOCA is the Museum of this type of Art. "What is the Museum of Contemporary Art?" That's $5300 as he continues his assault on the big board into the TV time out with $7300.

The other two have a chance to get something on the board in the rest of the round; Kevin has $1200 at the half to Lateefah's $800. Richard puts them both to shame with $12,500. Lateefah can turn the tide as she starts Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Party. Richard finds the first Daily Double under $2000 It's 1999. No way he's going to double up here. He tries $3500 on this: perhaps because it was there, a 1999 expedition to Mt. Everest found this man's body, which had been frozen there for 75 years. "Who is Hillary?" Nope, it was Sir George Mallory. He still leads with $11,800. He can spread further with the second Daily Double under Anagrammed Shakespeare Characters for $1600. He bets just $500 on a fairy (no robe). "Who is Oberon?" Should've doubled. He's got $18,300. That's where he ends. It's a locked game against Lateefah's $8000 and Kevin's $5200.

Final Jeopardy in "Men of Medicine": after giving birth in Paris, American Marjorie Karmel wrote "Thank you" him & co-founded an organization now named for him. Correct response: who is Lamaze?

Lateefah's right, but didn't risk a dime. Richard missed it, but has enough to win $16,300. Kevin leaves with $18,800.

Frank Ensinberger

customer care representative
Gerri Miller
California

Frank pulls into the lead when he stumbles across a Crossword Extra. With $150, he can bet up to $500. He does. Here's the clue: box for bad boys in hockey (- - - - - T -). PENALTY is good for $650! At the end of the round, Gerri has $300 to Frank's $550.

Call these next three Michael Jackson, because they wanna be startin' something...

Kim Ross Diane

Ross starts the round by spoiling Frank and picking up this round's Crossword Getaway with this clue: word on a sign that's flipped daily (- P - -). He opens up with $750 and a trip to Reno. Diane decides that she wants to take $1150 to Reno and spoils Ross. Gerri gets the Crossword Extra. She fronts the max on this clue: bit of baby's breath (- P - - -). SPRIG... is not right. It was SPRAY. She's down to -$300. Frank spoils for $1950 to Gerri's -$200 to end the round.

Gerri gets the final Crossword Extra. She tries for $1000 on this: continent with the shortest name (- - - -). ASIA is good for $1100. Kim, given the answer by Frank, spoils away for $2150. ... and she's a one-question wonder to win $2150 and the trip to Reno. Gerri only has $1500, despite a late rally.

Okay, Kim, you spoiled your way to Reno, but you're not going until you finish the puzzle. Heck, we'll throw in $2000 and a trip to Puerto Vallarta if you do so. It all comes down to this clue with two seconds left: when you're this, you're "in bad company," according to Bierce. ALONE... at the buzzer... GOT IT! She leaves with $4100, a trip to Reno, and a trip to Puerto Vallarta. Enjoy!

Phil Laak calls all-in with K-J against Daniel's 9-8. Flop: J-6-7. Phil's breaking out the jacket. Turn: 6♣. Daniel needs a 5 or a 10. River: 6♥, and Phil doubles up $29,000.

And here comes Mike... "You gave money to Phil Hellmuth?"

Perez (Emilio, Daniel, Marta, Cindy, Humberto) Muñoz (Jasmine, Marlene, Silvana, Yoli, Johnny)

Perez lead, 239-129.

Triple: a country with the most gold Olympic medals (3). Johnny gets the big one, Team USA. Germany is #2. What's #3? Let's go to the Perez for it... They try to steal with the Russians. Not there! Muñoz win, 354-239... and it turns into a World Cup final on stage. Other answer: Brazil.

Dinero Rápido: Marlene & Yoli score 128 for $500.

Rodriguez (Ingrid, Lilian, Viena, Veronica, Homero)
Miami
$5500, two games
Muñoz (Jasmine, Marlene, Silvana, Yoli, Johnny)
$500

Worth noting: the Muñoz family have snapped the Rodriguez's hot streak at eight. As it is going into the double, the Rodriguez lead, 176-82. Double: something you need to make a rag doll (4). Of course, you need rags for #1. Cotton is next. The Rodriguez try thread to steal... That'll do for the win, 354-82.

Dinero Rápido: having won 11 of the last 12, Ingrid pulls... "puntos extra." She & Homero get 173. The extra points say... 10. They get another $500, giving them $6000.

Lisa: Skin Therapist
2 days, $1,010 | T$292

Konima: Barista

Iris: Makeup Artist

INSTANT CASH: $2,500

Last time, Lisa waited ‘til the last minute to win.  If she does well today, she could get to the West Indies.  First, the winning the game part.

In our first Speed Round, Lisa starts with the hot hand, getting two in a row, but Iris gets two to close out the round tied with the champ at 30, which means it’s two to the first Instant Bargain.  It’s a Bulova ladies’ watch and 2 tickets to anywhere in the US provided by cheaptickets.com.  It’s $1,525 but will go for Ten TemptDING!  Iris rings in at the very first instant going back to even.

Fame Game.  It only takes two clues for Iris to get JENNIFER ANISTON to get back her sawbuck plus five.  She leads the champ with 35.

Konima gets to finally speak up in our Knock Off Round.  The category is birthstones.  All the easy ones go down first, then Lisa falters with Jade.  Iris hits the big one with peridot, leaving only the T$10 answer left.  Konima thinks it’s coral……NO!  Iris says moonstone…RIGHT for 67!  Lisa has 37 and Konima 31, so we have another Instant Bargain for Iris.  To relax, we have a collection of cameras, Kashwere, a 1-year membership to Netflix, and a Roomba floor vaccum.  All these goodies total $1,218 but will sell for T$15.  One quick snuggle and Iris is sold.  Her lead is halved but she now has $2700+ in goodies.

We spin the Top 40 for the 2nd Speed Round: Celine Dion or Barbara Streisand.  Alas, Konima went down to 26, but Lisa went up to 47.  However, Iris made her 15 back and ended up back at 67 for Instant Cash.  T$20 for $2,500?  She’ll do it.  She picks the brown one and………JACKPOT!  $2500 for the girl who has everything so far.

With Iris and the champ at 47 and Konima at 26, it’s time for the Final Speed Round.  The leaders trade right answers before Iris gets one more.  Konima gets the final question which means that Iris is the new champ despite ending the last three rounds at T$67.  Lisa does leave with $1,010 in prizes from the first game, and it’s back to the coffee house for Konima.

Iris scored the Bargain hat trick and is now trying for that convertible.  However, she’ll have her work cut out for her in Super Knock Off.  The category: State Animals.  We have White-tailed Deer and Rocky Mountain Elk for 50.  What about Musk Ox……NO!  Morgan Horse, Sperm Whale, Gray Squirrel, and here’s a heart-stopper, Red Fox rounded out the six.  (Yes, lame.  I know.)

Well, 67 isn’t worth squat in Shopper’s Paradise, so out comes that Croton watch. (I’d love to know the price on that thing, just because I’m a nerd like that.  I think it’s $800.)  However, Iris notes that she already won a watch, so there’s nothing else to do other than come back, and so she shall, and so shall we.

Justin Root
orig. from the Midwest
office assistant
Christina Simos
orig. Queens, NY
mother of one

We start as always with the tossup... "A STITCH IN TIME SAVES HOW MANY?" Justin knows it's nine. It's not worth 9, but he gets to start the game with this answer: "Big Bird." Justin goes out in front with "WHAT 'SESAME STREET' CHARACTER LIVES IN A NEST?" for the lead, 23-8.

Next up, we'll try to find a question for "Dr. Seuss." The question: "WHAT AUTHOR COINED THE WORD 'NERD'?" Justin gets his second question to widen his lead, 42-10.

Christina controls the answer "Cleveland". But here comes Justin: "WHAT IS DREW CAREY'S HOME TOWN?" He leads it, 50-14, at the half.

First answer of round 2 has eight letters. Justin knows the question: "WHAT IS THE WORLD'S BEST-SELLING CANDY BAR?" Does he know the answer? Snickers. He still leads, 84-24.

Next answer has six letters. Christina makes an effort, but it's all Justin here. "WHOSE LAST NAME MEANS 'MAN OF STEEL' IN RUSSIAN? Stalin." That's the question... and that's the game. Justin wins, 128-50.

After two minutes and change of questions, Justin gets this to think about...

WHAT R..ER CARR.ES .ORE WATER THA. A.Y OTHER? ------

"What river carries more water than any other?" That's the question... But he can't pinpoint Amazon for the answer. Justin leaves with $500.

A: Denmark
B: Tunisia
C: Argentina
D: Poland

After saying that it's not C because there's some blue in that flag, Amy asks the audience. 54% are thinking D. She was also iffy about A (29%), though. Amy then uses the 50:50, and that leaves B (14%) and D. She goes with D... and the 54% are right!

[$25,000]

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards made a cameo in which of these summer blockbusters?
A: Hairspray
B: Transformers
