Celeste DiNucci
(grad student from Philadelphia); $83,601, five
days |
|
Eugene Manning
(U.S. Army specialist from Honolulu, HI) |
|
Danelle Johnson
(postal clerk from Salt Lake City) |
Celeste has her five and
a berth in the next ToC is all but certain. But can she
win any more?
Celeste starts with $200
Restaurants. At the TV time out, Eugene is in the lead
with $2200 to Celeste's $1800. Danelle has $1200.
Danelle finds the Daily
Double under $800 Bear Stuff. She bets $1000 on this:
Subject of a 1930s novelty song; in 1993 9,750 bears &
their owners attended one set up in New Zealand. "What
is a teddy bears' picnic?" Right for $2800. She goes to
$4800 thanks to a good showing in 3-Letter Words, but
she trails Celeste's $5000. Eugene has $4000 and first
pickings in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Graveyard
Shift, finding the first Daily Double under $800 Music.
He bets $2000 on this: Liszt was among the customers of
Bosendorfer, a firm that's been making these since 1828. "What
are pianos?" Right
for $10,400! He can strike again with the second
Daily Double under $2000 Bodies of Water. He bets $1000 on
the south arm of the sea named for the Englishman who
explored it in 1841. "I don't know." What is the
Ross Sea? Eugene drops to $17,000, still in the lead. He
holds his lead into the final, $15,000 to Danelle's
$9600. The game is just out of Celeste's reach with
$7400.
Final Jeopardy! in "American Women Authors":
Henry James called her "the Thackeray, the Trollope, of
the nursery and the schoolroom". Correct question: Who
was Louisa May Alcott?
All three are wrong, but
Eugene bet strategically to win the game with $10,000.
Celeste leaves, perhaps not for long, with $84,601. |

Ballesteros
(Margarita, Hector, Soltera, Cristian, Herbert) |
|
Morales (Gustavo, Belkis, Fanny, Bruno, Humberto) |
It's Colombia (Ballesteros)
vs. Venezuela (Morales), and so far, Venezuela leads,
156-66, going into the Double Round... a method of
transportation used in the old days (4). Cristian fires
with horse, #1. Carriage is #2, and now the Morales can
steal to win with train. Got it for the win, 342-66.
Other answer: bicycle.
Dinero
Rápido time, as Gustavo & Humberto have a chance at $5000 or more.
Gustavo gets 103 despite a blankout. Humberto gets...
only up to 170 for $500.
But we have more game to
play...
|
Soriano
(Ana, Ana, Carlos, Rolando, Miguel); $2500, three days |
|
Morales (Gustavo, Belkis, Fanny, Bruno, Humberto);
$500 |
The Sorianos trail,
125-90, going into the Double Round... when watching a
game of soccer, what makes you get up (3)? Rolando goes
to the WC for #3, while Bruno scores #1....
Gooooooooooool! That's all they can come up with, while
the Sorianos try to stay alive with the phone... Not
there! Morales win, 305-90! Other answer: win.
After a spiel promoting
the Red Cross, Marco Antonio brings up la canasta, and
we get from said basket... $500! That's bonus money.
Now, Humberto & Bruno try to win Dinero
Rápido again. It is not to be, though, as they only win 117 for
another $500, giving them $1500 for today.
