Nina Ginocchio, who likes Pinocchio,
is going for another win... occhio.
Nina Ginocchio
Park Ridge, IL
school librarian
$19,200 |
Tiffiny Fisher
Beaverton, OR
data analyst |
Michael Huntington
Kansas City, MO
waiter |
Nina starts with $200 America
the Beautiful. Michael finds the Daily Double under $600 a
World of Music. He wants to double it on this: the 1990 album
"Unison" marked the English language debut of this chanteuse from
Quebec. "Who is Celine Dion?" That's right. But Michael... blanks.
He recovers to $600, but with Tiffiny at $5000 and Nina at $7400,
the sole man will be starting Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Starts with 2 Vowels,
where Nina finds the first Daily Double under $1600. She bets
$2000 on this: a trapeze artist. "What is an aerialist?" Correct
for $11,800! Michael is in the hole by $200 when he finds the
second Daily Double under $1200 New Congressmen & Governors. He
bets the max of $2000 on this: one of the 2 states that got new
senators with the last name Udall in 2009. "What is ... Ohio?"
Nope, the two states were New Mexico and Colorado, leaving him
$2200 in the red. He gets the $2000 back, but it's not enough for
him to continue. And with Tiffiny's $7400 against Nina's $21,000,
this game is all but decided.
Final Jeopardy!
in "Phrase Origins": a 19th Century gambling term
meaning a desirable prize, its used in reference to NYC
stems from a 1921 newspaper sports column. Correct
response: what is the Big Apple?
Nina wins this one with $25,000,
giving her a two-day total of $44,200. |

Heading into the library today... Six
New York fraternity brothers
Pedro (22, Bronx)
Sean (25, New City)
Winder (22, Brooklyn)
Jarrett (21, Long Beach)
Greg (22, Ossining)
Michael (23, Bronx)
Round 1 ($300 per task): Sean
starts with "Under Armed". He's getting plucked in his armpits by
his teammates. Painful... but profitable. (PASS) Winder then gets
"Meat Spin", slapped around by meat nunchukus from resident
ninjas. Personally, I never "sausage" embarrassment. (PASS). Sean
then gets "Sweet Red Corn". Thirty seconds to eat a
lipstick-covered corn-on-the-cob. THOROUGHLY... lipstick covered.
Even with a laugh at the end, Sean didn't even come close to
finishing, instead, looking like a lip-glossed loser. (FAIL).
Total this round: $600.
Round 2 ($400 per task). Pedro
steps up to "Passion Fish". Plenty of love lost between the team
and the fish here. None whatsoever between Pedro and the chuck
bucket (FAIL). Sean gets his third challenge of the day, "Head
Ping". He has to withstand a barrage of ping-pong balls to the
face. And delivering them... a champion ping-pong player. (PASS)
Sean then gets another "Mouth Fizzle", having to keep Alka-Seltzer
and water in his mouth for 15 seconds. He gets a PASS and a face
of a mad dog. Total this round: $800, $1400 total.
Round 3 ($800 per task): Pedro has
"Exploded Candy Drop". Diet cola and Mentos makes for a tasty
drink. (PASS). Michael then steps up to the plate with "Dizzy Bat
Lady". First he gets dizzy on a dizzy bat, then he gets batted by
a bat lady. (PASS). Total this round: $1600, $3000 total.
Final Challenge for $1000 is
Jarrett's... "Spitted Shoot". He has to withstand spitballs. Lots
and lots of spitballs. They... PASS for $4000, $667 per player.* |
