Jeopardy! by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or jeopardy.com
Host: Alex Trebek
Chris Knight (copywriter from Birmingham, AL); $20,800
Joan Belen (homemaker from Brooklyn)
Mark Edelson (software developer from Toronto)

A Knight in shining intellect faces two new opponents today.

Chris starts with $200 Casablanca, but is schooled by Mark's $5000 at the TV time out. Chris has $2000, while Joan has $400. But if you remember, Chris was in a similar spot on Friday.

Joan finds the Daily Double under $1000 The Big Sleep. "Let's make it a true Daily Double." For double or nothing, your Daily Double is... alpha waves occur when you're relaxed with eyes closed; beta, when alert; these waves, when in deep sleep. "What are gamma?" Unfortunately, the writers threw Joan for a loop. They were delta waves. Mark still leads, $7200 to Chris' $4800. Joan, back in the blue with $800, starts Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Vocabulary, where Chris finds the first Daily Double under $800. He fronts $2500 on this: depending on where you place the emphasis, this word can mean to comfort or an instrument panel. "What is a dashboard?" Safe to say... no. It was console, or CON-sole, leaving him with $3300. He has a chance for redemption with $1600 Meet TS Eliot. He bets $3000 on this: practical cats know that Eliot was nicknamed after this animal because his cold manner seemed like playing dead. "I don't know, what are tom cats?" Nope, it was "possums", as Chris drops to $2300. He comes back to $5100 to Joan's $3200. But it's Mark's game to lose with $12,800.

Final Jeopardy! in "19th Century Governors": to date, he's the only person to be elected governor of 2 different states. Correct question: Who was Sam Houston?

Mark didn't have to bet the farm; he didn't. He wins with $12,600. Chris leaves with $22,800.

Soriano (Bertha, Arturo, Maria, Rosa, Jose); $6000
Torres (Javier, Edwin, Angel, Joel, Suegrito)

The champs took the big bonus yesterday thanks to an impressive DR showing. Now it's time to see if they can do it again.

BUT FIRST! Marco acknowledges a technical from last night's Dinero Rápido round. Let's go to the video tape. It seems that the Sorianos were a victim of a premature buzz, so they're giving the family another $1000 for all five #1s! That means, quite simply put...

Soriano (Bertha, Arturo, Maria, Rosa, Jose); $7000
Torres (Javier, Edwin, Angel, Joel, Suegrito)

Now.. Vamos, ¡a jugar!

Round 1: a common household job men do... (7). Javier with the buzz-in.. "Lavar ropa." Laundry is... not there. The full question... a common household job married men do. Sweep is good for Bertha, #7. Maria gets #2, mowing the lawn, while Rosa gets #1, the dishes. But that's it. The Torres try to steal with painting... No! The champs get 38! Other answers: aspire, nothing, cook, take out the trash.

Round 2: specifically, the most difficult instrument to play (7). Edwin fires with violin, #1. The saxophone, harp, guitar, piano, trumpet, and... an accordion? The champs hope so... YES! They have 125.

Round 3: one of the seven deadly sins (5). Angel gets ... well, murder isn't one of them, but it's #1. Also what the people say: lies and theft... Stepping on other people's toes... Not on the list. The steal from the Sorianos: wrath. Not there, the Torres get 57. Other answers: luxury, gluttony.

Double Round: if you're going to watch movies at home, something you need (4). Joel gets #3, a DVD/VCR, while Rosa gets #1, popcorn. You also need the movie, but the Torres steal TV for 243.

Triple Round: something that explodes (3)? Suegrito gives us a ball for #3. Javier drops a bomb for #1. But the Sorianos get one last chance with a tire... NO! Torres win, 465-125. Other answer: gastank.

Dinero Rápido: Edwin & Angel team up for only 133 for $500.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira
When we last left off, Rodney Turner (Stockbridge, GA) reached the $8,000 level, having used the audience lifeline to get there. Let's see how he starts the week...

Rodney is just an overall nice guy, and he believes in karma, where if he does nice things to people, that he'll get nice things in return. And he's had good karma here so far, so with that, the game resumes...

[$16,000]
"God is dead" is a widely-quoted line taken from the works of what famous philosopher?
A: René Descartes
B: Blaise Pascal
C: Immanuel Kant
D: Friedrich Nietzsche

The 50:50 leaves C and D. Rodney then calls a co-worker's husband, Ross, and he is very sure that it's D. Rodney trusts him... and he's right! He then completes the middle tier, securing $25,000, before facing this...

[$50,000]
In an attempt to get support from unions, what president declared Labor Day a federal holiday?
A: Rutherford B. Hayes
B: Grover Cleveland
C: William McKinley
D: William Howard Taft

Rodney is thinking D, but he says he's not sure enough, so he switches the question. Turns out it was actually B, so he caught a lucky break with that one. Anyway, here's what he now faces...

[$50,000] (Q)
Confirmed in 2005, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez is the former CEO of what food giant?
A: Campbell's
B: Kellogg
C: General Mills
D: Kraft

It is a free guess, so Rodney guesses A... but it's B! Oh well; he does have $25,000!

In the hot seat now is Angela Ruediger (Camp Hill, PA). She's a theater professor, so she works with college students. And one of the things she does is help them relax when in the spotlight. Now, she has to follow her own advice, and yet, she feels nervous. Hopefully, she'll feel better soon enough. With that, Angela starts by knowing about the classic holiday song, "Frosty the Snowman" (if anyone knows a song called "Frosty the Sanitation Worker", please don't tell me about it). She sweeps the lower tier, then soon gets to this...

[$4,000]
Before he took the name Pope John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla was the archbishop of what European city?
A: Milan, Italy
B: Munich, Germany
C: Salzburg, Austria
D: Kraków, Poland

Angela has a thought, but she chooses to ask the audience to make sure. Both polls favour D (96%; 39%), though the results were very interesting; while the studio poll was a complete blowout, the AIM poll was close. Nonetheless, Angela trusts the majority, and says D... and they're right! A couple of questions later, and she has this to ponder...

[$25,000]
In 2004, who became the first Senate party leader to fail to get reelected in 52 years?
A: Tom Daschle
B: Arlen Specter
C: Christopher Dodd
D: Barbara Boxer

Angela says that all she knows is that it's not B. So, she calls an old friend of her family, Larry, and he's 100% sure that it's A. Angela goes with that... and she has $25,000! On to the upper tier...

[$50,000]
The first "Dear Abby" column appeared in 1956 in what newspaper?
A: Baltimore Sun
B: San Francisco Chronicle
C: Denver Post
D: St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The 50:50 leaves B and C. Angela then says B... and she's right! Moving on...

[$100,000]
Due to its nutritional punch, what variety of orange does Sunkist market as "The Power Orange"?
A: Clementine
B: Moro
C: Valencia
D: Cara Cara

Angela has no idea, so she switches the question. After seeing that it was D, this shows up...

[$100,000] (Q)
After arriving in the U.S., the famous conjoined twins Chang and Eng adopted what Western last name?
A: Riley
B: Crawford
C: Williams
D: Bunker

Again, Angela has no idea. So, she walks with $50,000! We then find out that it was D.

And the horn ends this episode. See ya tomorrow!
