Craig Westphal
(paramedic from Tucson, AZ); $94,202, four days |
|
Doug O'Brien
(public health official from Chicago) |
|
Maggie Parcells
(student from Encinitas, CA) |
Will this be the day when
Craig breaks the century mark?
J! Round: all video
games, but Craig starts with $200
NFL Blitz, but it's Doug who finds the Daily Double $1000
Defender. He fronts $1000 on this: the strategies of Air
Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding helped twin this crucial
mid-1940 "battle." "What is the Blitz of London?" Nope,
it was the Battle of Britain, as he drops to $1400 to
tie Craig.
But here comes Craig, as
he enters the half leading, $5800 to Doug's $4000.
Maggie, with $1200, starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Most Evil Britons (according to BBC History magazine),
with Doug finding the first Daily Double
under $1600. He bets $2500 on this: for the 11th C. it's
Eadric Streona, the chief counselor who betrayed this
"unready" monarch to the Danes. "Who is Ethelred?" Right
for $6100 and the lead. Doug wants to pick up a third
Daily Double under $2000 States' Former Governors. He
risks $6000 on John Marmaduke & John Ashcroft. "What is
Missouri?" Right for $13,700 and the lead by $300 over
Craig. The seesaw battle continues with Doug at $17,700,
Craig at $17,400, and Maggie at $7200.
Final Jeopardy! in "The Oscars": 2 of the 3
Westerns to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
Correct question: What are Cimarron, Unforgiven,
or Dances With Wolves?
Craig is the only one who
gets it right to secure the win, but does he bet enough?
What
does THAT tell you? He returns tomorrow with $114,601. |

Malba Smesny, Sherry
Scheldon, Corrina Lee, and Shayan Torelhl start the
bidding with a trampoline, as Shayan wins the $808 set.
He goes to the big clock for a table tennis package and
a sofa. The ping pong table is $578, as he gets it with
19 ticks left. Next, the sofa at $699. About seven
seconds left, as he picks up $1000 and the two prizes.
Malba also picks up an $899
washer/dryer, as she has a shot at a Jeep Wrangler at
the Card Game table. The window today: $3000. She draws
up to $16,400. Actual price... $20,809. Difference:
$4409. Close.
Corrina wins a $1199
espresso machine and a chance at $16,000 in the Bags. In
the bags: Azo cranberry supplement, Clorox bleach,
Capzasin P, Tidy Cats litter, Chips Ahoy cookies, and
Francesco Rinaldi sauce. What's 55c? She goes with the
cookies. What's $12.99? Capzasin. How about $1.99? The
sauce. And $3.99? The bleach. And $5.88? She goes for
the Azo. She gets $1000... She gets $2000... She gets
$4000... She gets $8000... She gets... skunked. The
litter was under the $16,000 bag. Don't feel too bad for
her, though. She goes onto the Showcase.
Sherry wins a $580
luggage set and a chance at a BBQ island (marked $3806),
a home gym (marked $3490), and a dinette (marked $3021).
One of those is wrong. She thinks it's the grill. It
isn't. It's the gym at $1747.
Reginald Lewis gets a
$1350 pair of watches. His next conquest: Coming or
Going for two offroad motorcycles. Is he Coming ($4315)
or Going ($5134). He's Going... and he's winning!
Last player is Ricardo
Franco, and he wins a $999 laptop. Now how about a Ford
Ranger? The game is Cover Up...
2
3 3
9 5 6
2 5 6 8
1 6 8 9 4
3 4 2 7 1
$2 7 3 8 0
It's not $27,380. He goes
with $16,951 first... Not it. Only the 1, 6, and the
other 1 are right. He tries $16,561. Not it. And none
right. It's $16,231. But again, don't feel too bad,
because he's in the Showcase.
First up: a word scramble
with TEAMS on an HDTV, STEAM in a sauna, and MATES in
Australia. Top winner Corrina passes to Ricardo, who
bids $13,000. Corrina gets a stereo system, a drum set,

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
Another day of Millionaire.
Let's do it.
Starting things off today is Alex Rust (Seymour, IN).
Growing up, he's done plenty of work at a farm, but he
has proven to be a smart man at Purdue. But he's a bit
broke; he had to ask his mother to borrow the family
minivan so he could make it here with a few buddies
(seen in the audience)! Sounds like someone who deserves
a lot of money! So, with that, Alex starts by knowing
that a camcorder is commonly used to shoot home movies
(those could very well put your friends to sleep). He
gets through most of the lower tier, before facing
this...
[$1,000]
According to the title of his best-selling book, Mitch
Albom spent what days of the week with his mentor,
Morrie Schwartz?
A: Tuesdays
B: Wednesdays
C: Fridays
D: Sundays
To play it safe, Alex asks the audience, and both polls
strongly favour A (86% of the studio audience; 68% of
the AIM users). Alex trusts them... and he has $1,000!
He then rolls on, and eventually gets to this...
[$16,000]
On the 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter," what is Mr.
Kotter's first name?
A: Gabe
B: Arnold
C: Nate
D: Ed
Alex calls his high school chemistry teacher, Rick, and
he's about 75% sure that it's A. Alex trusts him... and
he's right! One question left in the middle tier...
[$25,000]
Commissioned by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1357,
the Charles Bridge is a popular tourist spot in what
European city?
A: Istanbul
B: Venice
C: Prague
D: Berlin
The 50:50 leaves B and C. Alex decides to go with B...
but it's C! Darn! Well, he does have $1,000 to take
home.
Next up is Becky Simmons (Wilmington, NC). Apparently, a
lot of her friends didn't believe that she'd be here.
She says that where she's from, they don't get many
chances to be on TV; hence, the disbelief. Well, she is
indeed here, and Becky starts by knowing that in a
famous annual issue, Sports Illustrated showcases photos
of supermodels in swimsuits. She sweeps the lower tier,
then soon sees this...
[$4,000]
Mather Point and Yavapai Point are two of the most
popular overlooks at what U.S. tourist spot?
A: Yellowstone
B: Death Valley
C: Grand Canyon
D: Mount McKinley
Becky asks the audience, and both polls lean towards C
(84%; 47%). Becky goes with that... and they're right!
Moving on...
[$8,000]
Believed to be the first European born in the New World,
Snorri Thorfinnsson was the son of parents from what
country?
A: Spain
B: Iceland
C: Great Britain
D: The Netherlands
The 50:50 leaves A and B. Since that name doesn't sound
very Spanish to her, Becky goes with B... and she's
right! She then makes a great guess to get to $16,000!
That's all for today. Becky will go for $25,000 (and
possibly more) tomorrow. |
