Craig Westphal
(paramedic from Tucson, AZ); $67,001, three days |
|
Danielle Kolker
(family literacy program manager from Brooklyn) |
|
Bob Puett
(medical assistant from Puyallup, WA) |
Yesterday, it was the
Craig Westphal show again. Today... perhaps up and over
the century mark? More pressingly... Does this guy ever
smile?
Craig starts with $200
Feat of Clay, finding the Daily Double under $800 Made
in Japan. He fronts $2200 on this: this sport whose name
means "the way of softness" was added to the Olympics at
the 1964 games in Tokyo. "What is judo?" Hai. He's got
$5400 at the TV time out, three times the total of Bob.
Craig has $10,200 at the
half, while Bob follows with $4800. Danielle has $800,
same as the time out, and will start Double Jeopardy!...
... with, logically, $400
in City of the Day: New York (a subject a few of us at
the 'net know well). Craig finds the first Daily Double
under $2000 Royal Literature. He bets the level on 1888:
by Rudyard Kipling. "What is The Man Who Would Be
King?" Correct for $14,600. Craig goes for the
trifecta with $1200 An Atomic Category. His wager:
$2000. His clue: the first two subatomic particles
discovered whose names begin with "neut". "What are a
neutron and a neutrino?" Right for $15,400. He ends the
round with that, as Bob roars back with $13,600.
Danielle is still in it with $6400.
Final Jeopardy! in "Political Quotations": it was said
that being with these 2 leaders, born 1874 & 1882, "was
like sitting between 2 lions roaring at the same time".
Correct question: Who were Winston Churchill & Franklin
Roosevelt?
Craig is the only one
right on this, as he return tomorrow with $94,202. Can
he make the elusive $100,000? Stay tuned... |

Friends/teachers Kim
& Gaby |
|
Engaged
teachers Ryan & Clare |
|
BONUS LINGO JACKPOT:
$12,000 |
An apple for the teacher
could spell disaster today as Lingo salutes the many
great educators in this land of ours.
Kim & Gaby start with a
C. They get CROWNed for 25. Ryan & Clare steal STUDY for
25 of their own. Kim & Gaby get it back with TWINS, then
follow with ENTER and the Lingo for 125 to 25.
Ryan & Clare go with a P,
as Kim & Gaby POACH 25, but Kim draws one of the
aforementioned apples. Ryan & Clare get GRASS, but then
CLARE draws red. Kim & Gaby get the DONUT, then the
LEASH, then the buzzer. Score is 200 to 50 in favor of
the Yellows going into round 2.
And speaking of teachers,
one of Ohio's newest, our own Mike K., is #2 on the
interactive leaderboard. Just thought I'd point that
out.
Ryan & Clare get an S and
SPEND time in the drum. The ? ball gives them Lingo..
and the tie, 200 a piece.
Kim & Gaby get a W. Kim
WALKS into the lead, as we go into MORON, and the Lingo
for 400 to the Reds' 200.
Ryan & Clare don't have
much time, as they need to score off of an E. They get
EATER and the ? ball... but it doesn't do that much
good. They get TRICK... Need the Lingo to tie... Red
ball. That's game. Kim & Gaby win it, 400-300.
With three bonus
letters, Kim & Gaby get DINER, CHECK, OPENS, USUAL,
SHADE, PHONY, and TEETH, for seven balls and $700. Money
ball is 45. Kim's in with.... 3. Kim draws the Lingo for
$5000.
Next show, $13,000 up for
grabs. |

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |

It says a lot when you start
a show with an HDTV. Douglas, Jared, Ruth, and Anthony
can win it, but only Anthony does, taking home a $2495
stash so far. What's next? Power tools and a trip to
Yosemite. The game is 2 for the Price of 1. He gets the
last one of the three for free, a 9. Is the first number
7 or 4? He goes with 7. Second, 5 or 2? He says 2. Are
the tools $729? YES!
Jared picks up a $1298 desk,
and for the desk, something to stash in it... $50,000!
Time for Plinko, as he gets chips from Bob, a $28 milk
frother, a $30 copy of "Dumbo" Big Top Edition (which
you could easily find for $15 at Wal-Mart, but I
digress), a $33 gumball lamp, and a $30 communicator
watch. End result: one chip lands in $500. The others
land flush.
Douglas gets a $1400
electric guitar and a shot at a) a dinette, b) a Ford
Focus, or c) what would usually be found in the crevices
of both. The game is Any Number, and his picks are 4, 5,
6... All in the dinette, $465. The car was $17,210.
Anthony scores $1000 on
the Big Wheel, but can Karen Sagastume do better? She
wins a $599 pair of patio heaters and a chance at a hot
tub in the Grocery Game. She buys one Francesco Rinaldi
sauce for $1.99, one Gold Bond powder for $12.99, and
one Tidy Cats litter for $5.88, giving him the
nickel-and-dime win with $20.86.
Ruth wins a $504 set of
crystal stemware, as she gets a shot at a Ford Fusion!
The game? That's Too Much! She thinks the $20,159 tile
is Too Much!, and That's ... Just Short. One over for
the $21,275 whip.
Karen Behrens wins an
$1898 pool table, but can she win a wave runner? She can
if she knows whether it's $10,999 or $8998. She goes for
$10,999... Wrong. It's 8998. But Karen also scores $1000
(with a little help from the WGMC) in the Showdown
Round, as we have dual cash winners in the Showcase.
First, a new living room
with carpeting, a gemstone globe, and a trip to Hong
Kong. Top winner Anthony passes to Karen B., who bids
$14,500. Anthony gets framed with picture frames,
portable DVD player with "The Fugitive" on DVD, and a
Chevrolet Equinox. He tags it all at $17,200. Actual
price: $23,014, difference of $5814. Actual price of
Karen's Showcase... $18,140, a difference of $3640.
Winner! She takes away $21,038 in cash and prizes.
Stats: a very sloppy 2-4,
$42,521. |

Host: Marco Antonio Regil |

|
Veras (Geraldo,
Yani, Adriana, Sandra, Adalberto); $5500, two days |
|
Corzo (Jaqueline, Alejandro, Delia, Sara,
Marcos) |
Veras... translated from
the Spanish, it means "You will see." But will la
familia Veras see number three?
Round 1: if a man has two
girlfriends at the same time, he needs a lot of... (7).
That's Jaqueline. "Dinero." Money's number one! And
that's all they come up with. But not for lack of
trying. The Veras try to steal with time... #2. They get
39. Other answers: lies, courage, much lock, patience,
condoms.
To which Marco replies...
"To the kids watching at home, don't pay any attention
to these, okay?"
Round 2: something you
want to do when someone sees you crying... (5). Yani
gets top of the board with hide. The family follows up
with cover your face, lock yourself in your room, and
hold yourself. They go with drying tears... Not there!
The champs have 127. Other answer: bow your head.
Round 3: specifically,
something you repeatedly change batteries for (6).
Adriana gets #2, radio. Sandra gets #5, a toy (just
under the buzzer), Geraldo gets #3, a flashlight. And
the Corzos steal with a clock for 56. Other answers:
alarm, remote (number one).
Double Round: an animal
that moves very slowly (3). Sandra? "Una tortuga!"
Eighty-eight people agree with the turtle for #1. An
elephant is #3, and they can win it here. But they'll
have to avoid the steal. The Corzos go with camel.. NOT
THERE! Veras win, 309-56. Other answer: worm.
¡Hay cambio! Gerardo's out and Yani is in as she and
Adalberto go for Dinero Rápido. Yani scores on how many
months a person can change their house (three), a famous
landmark (the Statue of Liberty), a type of crime
(murder), and a Winter Olympic sport (skiing) for 137.
Adalberto needs 63. he gets it the hard way and adds the
fifth number one for a bonus $1000, giving them $6000
for the day and $11,500 for three days. |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Last time, Chris Giuliano
(Stamford, CT) reached $1,000, but she used a couple of
lifelines to get there. How much farther will she go?
Chris is currently unemployed, but she is looking for a
job. And she didn't tell her mother that she's there,
because she thought the job search should come first.
Well, at least here, she's made this trip worthwhile,
since she knows she has at least $1,000! And with that,
the game resumes, and she gets through a few questions
before this one shows up...
[$16,000]
Before it became a U.S. territory, the island of Guam
was ruled for centuries by what country?
A: Great Britain
B: Germany
C: France
D: Spain
Chris decides to call her good friend, Denise, but the
best she can do is a guess of D. Since it's just a
guess, though, Chris decides to walk with $8,000. Turns
out the guess was right, though; it was D.
Next up is Cesar Grullon (Freehold, NJ). He's happy to
be there, so they get right to it. Cesar starts by
knowing that the iconic figure traditionally depicted
wearing a top hat emblazoned with stars and stripes is
Uncle Sam (that hat is nothing compared to what's in
Elton John's wardrobe, I'll bet). He sweeps the lower
tier, and is on a roll heading into this...
[$25,000]
Winning numerous titles in the 1950s, Althea Gibson was
a groundbreaking African-American athlete in what sport?
A: Gymnastics
B: Tennis
C: Long-distance running
D: Ice skating
Cesar goes for it, saying C... but it's B! Ouch. Well,
he does have $1,000.
Entering the hot seat now is Paula Grooms (New York,
NY). She doesn't seem nervous; she's ready to go. So
they get going, and Paula starts by knowing that bats
are the only mammals in the animal kingdom who can fly
(it would be weird to see one try to parallel park). She
sweeps the lower tier, then soon faces this...
[$4,000]
The first phase of the popular South Beach Diet requires
a drastic reduction in the consumption of what nutrient?
A: Carbohydrates
B: Fats
C: Protein
D: Salt
Paula is confused between two of them, so she asks the
audience. Both polls favour A (83% of the studio
audience; 67% of the AIM users). Paula trusts them...
and they're right! Moving on...
[$8,000]
What casino game allows gamblers to make an "insurance"
bet against losing to the house?
A: Craps
B: Roulette
C: Poker
D: Blackjack
Paula calls her boyfriend's father, Andy, and he's 99%
sure that it's D. Paula trusts him... and he's right!
Next question...
[$16,000]
Petrology is the study of what natural resource?
A: Forests
B: Lakes
C: Rocks
D: Sunlight
The 50:50 leaves C and D. Paula says C... and it's C!
Still going...
[$25,000]
Which of these popular "Peanuts" characters has a rarely
seen little brother named "Rerun"?
A: Snoopy
B: Linus
C: Charlie Brown
D: Pig Pen
Paula says she thinks it's not A or C, but she's not
completely sure, so she walks with $16,000! By the way,
it was B.
And that will wrap things up for today. See ya tomorrow! |
