Michael Falk
(meteorologist from Milwaukee); $17,401 |
Suzan Reiner
(church office manager orig. from Long Island, NY) |
Rory Cowan
(teacher from the LBC, Long Beach, CA) |
Will Michael have the
forecast for victory today? He starts this game off with
$200 The Senior US Senator. He finds the Daily Double
early under $800 "D"ude!. He bets his lead, $2000, on
this: in 1966 this future NYC mayor became a state
assemblyman from Harlem. "Who is Dinkins?" That would've
given him $4400, but a blank stare drops him to $400.
After a visit to Malawi,
Michael leads with $6200 against Suzan's $3200. Rory,
with $1800, starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 I'll Need
Some "ID". Rory finds the first Daily Double under $1600
Beastly Lit. Behind by not much, he bets $3000 on this:
1961: a reptilian evening served up by Tennessee
Williams. "What is 'The Night of the Iguana?'" Right on
for $8400. Michael has a chance to pull ahead of the
pack with $2000 Modern War Glossary, the second Daily
Double. He fronts $1000 on the Greek for "fellow
countryman." "What is Patriot?" Right for $10,800. He
ends with $11,600 to Rory's $9600 and Suzan's $8000.
Still a very close game.
Go to Jeopardy.com if you
have a kid who wants to be on the show. Kids Week
auditions will be underway soon.
Final Jeopardy!
in "State Capitals": alphabetically, they're
the first 2 state capitals named for presidents. Correct
question: What are Jackson and Jefferson City?
"Drew a complete blank."
That you did, Suzan. Michael will repeat as champ with
$19,201, giving him a two-day take of $36,602. |

Last time, Kathy Dean
(Indianapolis, IN) got to the $4,000 level without much
trouble. And she's back for more...
Kathy is an art student who wasn't very good at acting.
When cast in a play, "The Wizard of Oz," she was cast as
Auntie Em. But when they noticed her lack of experience,
they once had a rehearsal just for her! It paid off,
though, and she did alright. Here's hoping she does
better than alright here, as the game resumes...
[$8,000]
What TV series features a handsome physician whom the
interns have nicknamed "Dr. McDreamy"?
A: Nip/Tuck
B: Grey's Anatomy
C: House
D: ER
Kathy goes to the audience for this one, and both polls
are leaning towards B (51% of the studio audience; 44%
of the AIM users). Kathy trusts them... and they're
right! Another question later, and this pops up...
[$25,000]
Sugar magnate Henry Tate is the founder and namesake of
a famous art gallery located in what city?
A: London
B: Boston
C: Sydney
D: Dublin
Kathy calls a friend from high school, Howard, and he
says B, though he's only 60% sure. Kathy then uses the
50:50, leaving A and B. She goes with B... but it's A!
Ouch. That sends her packing with $1,000.
Next up is Barb Curry (Escondido, CA). She went all out
in preparing for this once she found out she was gonna
be here. And by that, I mean she made sure she'd look
good. Hope she found enough time to prepare her brain
for this. Barb starts by knowing that the Spanish
Armada, defeated in a historic 1588 battle, was a fleet
of more than a hundred ships (it would seem cruel to
send Salsa dancers into battle). A couple of questions
later, and she faces this...
[$500]
In October 2005, what pro sport resumed action after its
previous season was cancelled due to a labor dispute?
A: Basketball
B: Football
C: Hockey
D: Tennis
Barb doesn't know, so she asks the audience. Both polls
show a landslide for C (90%; 73%), so Barb goes with
it... and it's right! She then gets the $1,000, and
after some more, she gets to this one...
[$8,000]
What popular U.S. tourist destination's exterior
consists of 142 stainless-steel equilateral triangles?
A: Golden Gate Bridge
B: Washington Monument
C: Gateway Arch
D: Space Needle
The 50:50 leaves B and C. After saying that she thinks B
is made of marble, Barb goes with C... and she's right!
Moving on...
[$16,000]
Released on DVD in 2004, "THX 1138" is the little-known
first film of what famous director?
A: Martin Scorsese
B: Stanley Kubrick
C: Steven Spielberg
D: George Lucas
Barb calls Pam, who says D, but when asked how sure she
is, something inaudible is heard. Sounds like the
reception on the phone wasn't too good. Anyway, Barb
decides to go with D... and she's right! Now, to
complete the upper tier...
[$25,000]
The Jewish celebration of Hanukkah takes its name from a
Hebrew word meaning what?
A: Patience
B: Dedication
C: Hopefulness
D: Gratitude
Barb doesn't know, so she walks with $16,000. We then
see that it was B.
Let's see how Michael Pristash (Minneapolis, MN) does.
He's a high school social studies teacher, who teaches
plenty of kids each day. Their message to him: Don't
return without at least $8,000, and don't wimp out,
either. At least they didn't set that bar at $250,000 or
something... Michael starts by knowing that the natural
phenomenon that is known for its tendency to swallow up
large objects that fall into it is quicksand (insert
reference to Joan Rivers' mouth here). He sweeps the
lower tier, reaching $1,000.
That's all for today. Michael will be back tomorrow to
try to make enough so he can face those kids again. |
