Cash Cab
by Chico Alexander

Air time: 6p/5c on Discovery Channel
Host: Ben Bailey
Website
: www.discovery.com/cashcab
Ben picks up... a newspaper first. Then he picks up Mike, Emily & Aegis, going to Union Square Cafe. They have two strikes and $350 when they come across a Red Light Challenge: four of the five highest-grossing documentaries in the US according to boxofficemojo.com. "Fahrenheit 9/11", "March of the Penguins", "Sicko", and "Bowling for Columbine" give them $600. The other: "An Inconvenient Truth". They end up with $900. And that's quite enough for them.

Next up, Christian Clark & Lewis Dehado head to 14th & Third. They sweep the 50s and trigger this Red Light Challenge: other than Turkmenistan & Eritrea, four of the six countries that have the least freedom of the press according to Reporters without Borders. Iran, China, Cuba, and North Korea are right for $550. The other two: Myanmar & Vietnam. They play it perfectly with $1250 at their destination. Needless to say, that's walking money.

East 16th between Union Square & Fifth is where Azul & Anne McDermott. Red Light Challenge: five of the six women who have won all four tennis Grand Slam titles. Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, and Serena Williams are right for $550. The other one: Margaret Court-Smith. Unofrtunately, they strike out on a Street Shoutout.

Brian Rada
Loomis, CA
Leela Young
San Diego

Friday Red Carpet Hustle tests our star IQ against Oprah's best friend Gayle King, "Numb3rs'" Rob Morrow, Jason Alexander, "Close to Home's" Kimberly Elise, and "Law & Order's" Jesse L. Martin. Leela leads 400 to Brian's 300 and Elizabeth's 100.

Now to "Who Said It," as we learn that Keira Knightley never really had a role model (she doesn't believe in them), "Heroes'" Jack Coleman is the sixth-generation grandson of Benjamin Franklin, and that Kathy Griffin drew inspiration from Don Rickles. Leela still leads, 600 to Brian's 500 and Elizabeth's 300.

After the Speed Round, Elizabeth could've tied it up on a question about professional hard man Chuck Norris, but unfortunately he gives Elizabeth the win, 1200 to her 900. Brian had 1100. Now to Storm Again with Bernie Mac. Elizabeth sweeps it for $5000!

Jeopardy!

Lisa earned a quick 20 grand last time. Now for more.

Lisa Schumaker
Silver Spring, MD
medical research assistant
$20,000
Ben Hunt
Chicago
educational programs coordinator
Becky Vartabedian
Denver
adjunct professor & graduate student

Lisa starts with $200 On the "Q...T". Ben finds the Daily Double under $800 World Facts, betting $2000 on this: in 1989, a year of political change in Europe, this country that borders China changed its name. "What is Kazakhstan?" Nope, it was Burma, which changed its name to Myanmar, leaving him with $600. He'll build back up the dykes to $4800 against Lisa's $5000. Becky with $3800 will start up Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Sounds Like Before & After. Ben finds the first Daily Double under $1600 Woody Allen Films in Other Words. He bets the level on "Breaking Down Belafonte Into Component Parts". "What is 'Deconstructing Harry'?" Correct for $8000! He finds the second under $800 "The French one" (Termes d'Art). He bets $2000 on this: the name of this odd movement, French for "hobby-horse", was appropriately chosen at random from a dictionary. "What is dada?" Correct for $12,400! It's not a runaway with Ben at $18,000 to Lisa's $9800 and Becky's $7800.

Final Jeopardy! in "World Literature": "If he has a conscience he will suffer for his mistake" refers to a murderer in this 1866 novel. Correct response: what is "Crime & Punishment"?

Ben falters at the end, giving Lisa the game in this bit of a scare with $19,000 more, $39,000 for two days.

Trenise is back to make some more money after surviving a scare. Can she do it?

Trenise
Administrative Analyst
$1599, two days
T$127
Liliana
911 dispatcher
Felicia
truck driver & divorced mother-of-four

INSTANT CASH: $500

Trenise shows up with 30 to Liliana & Felicia's 20 each. She gets a hit on a digital camera & frames and video phones. $1265 for T$10 will tie the game up. Not good enough for Trenise, as she holds on.

Fame Game: Trenise gets PROJECT RUNWAY for T$15 more, giving her T$45.

Knock Off Subject: Girl Scout Cookies. Felicia gets the big 15 from Thanks-a-Lot and the 10 from Lemonade. The rest of the ladies sweep the board for 56 for Trenise, 50 for Felicia, and 29 for Liliana. Instant Bargain #2, teeth whitening and lipsticks all worth $895. She can have them for T$11... T$10... T$9... T$8... and $200? SOLD.

Speed Round #2: Dick Clark or Dick Cheney? Trenise ninjas her way to 73 against Felicia's 55 and Liliana's 39. Will she spend T$18 on a shot at $500? Nope. She would've picked the Red... The $500 was in the White. But she does hold onto the lead to win, T$93 against Liliana's T$39 and Felicia's T$65. The two challengers... got nothing for 'em. Trenise has a trip to Super Knockoff...

The category: Jamie Foxx facts. Starred in In Living Color... $25. Studied piano at Julliard... $25 more. Had a #1 Billboard song... big $100! ("Gold Digger" featuring Kanye West). Real name is Eric Bishop... $25. Played high school football... $25. Trenise stops. She would've guessed Spokesman for Greenpeace... should've gone with "was adopted".

Trenise has T$430, enough for the jewelry. She's buying... the trip to St. Lucia! That gives her a grand total of $7048 in swag.

Well...we have 9 in a row in the bonus round loss column...can we give away the +Q prize as we end "QVC SHopping Spree" week?

The $1,000 Tossup is THING. Robin Kertin, a hardware company estimator from East Rehoboth, MA solved DELIVERY TRUCK for $1,000. Andy Kirk is a junior. He is a English and Psychology major from Liberty, Missouri. Tracy Fowler works for the Government as a communications assistant for City in Hall in Milwaukee.

The $2,000 Tossup is WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Andy has $2,000 with HOLDING HANDS. Finola Hughes tells us abot QVC as we add the $5,000 QVC Shopping Spree to the wheel. The category is PLACE...and a PRIZE PUZZLE. Andy starts, picks up the Wild Card, but misses. Tracy did a bit of work, but she misses. Tracy solves A FOOTBRIDGE OVER A CANAL for $550 and a vacationcompare.com to a place where there a lot of canals...VENICE, ITALY! It's worth $5,000. If you have the SPIN ID of TL3093708, you are off to Venice as well. Remember the SONY CARD BONUS. She has $6,550 in cash and trip.

The Norwegian Cruise Line Jackpot Round is PEOPLE. Tracy starts, picks up the Free Spin and $600 with 2 N's, and solves MILLIONAIRES & BILLIONAIRES for $5,050.

The Mystery/Big Money Round is FOOD AND DRINK. Robin starts, and pretty much hogs the wheel. She solves ROAST BEEF SANDWICH WITH HORSERADISH SAUCE for $4,550. She is up to $11,100.

Andy has $5,000 with the $3,000 Tossup SONG TITLE solve of RING OF FIRE. Andy starts this round which is PHRASE. He starts and hits 2 $5,000 T's. He uses the Wild Card(smart move) and adds $5,000 more with an N. But he misses. (Ouch.) Tracy solves FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY for $3,900. She has $8,950. And we have time for another round which is FUN AND GAMES....

We go into a $1,300 a letter FINAL SPIN and Andy impresses with DOWNHILL SKIING for $1,300. He leaves with $6,300. Tracy leaves with $8,950. But Robin is our winner with $11,100 in cash and trip.

Remember if Robin wins the Bonus Round, she gets everything on QVC sold on her birthday! Thats the +Q prize worth $10,000. She lands on the H in CASH. With the RSTLNE and her choics of GHPA we have:

_ _ _ _ E _
S _ L _ _

She had SOLID...but if she chose the O she might have had BOOKED. It was BOOKED SOLID. She loses the +Q prize and the $25,000 bonus cash. She leaves with $11,100 and we are in a two week bonus round loss streak. This is bad.
