Celebrity Says!

Air time: 10p/9c on TV Guide Network
Host: Dave Holmes
Website
: tvguide.com/Channel/celebrity_landing.aspx
Remember "Rumor Has It"? Remember "Starface"? Remember "On the Cover"? This show plays something like that. It's TV Guide's first original quizzer, "Celebrity Says!"

John Reynolds
Pittsburgh
Dana Hannah
Rahway, NJ
Noah Shuffman
Columbia, MO

One of these players will have a chance at $5000 later today.

Round 1 is called "Red Carpet Hustle." We'll show a clip of a question that a celebrity is asked, and each player must lock into what they think the celebrity said. Each correct answer is worth 100 points. After questions on Kim Kardashian - who's known for having a big ass and a sex tape - Casper Van Dien, James Marsters, Joely Fisher, Dixie Carter, John takes the early lead with 200 to the others' 100.

Round 2 is "Who Said It?" It's like round 1, but we double the points and flip the script, learning that Megyn Price loves Milk Duds, "Enchanted's" Idina Menzel fell through a hole on a Broadway stage, and Jesse James from "Monster Garage" worked at the Golden Apple comic store. John still leads with 600 to Noah's 500 and Dana's 300.

Round 3 is a 90-second Speed Round. Questions are worth 300. Player with the highest score at the end of this round goes on to play for the big money. Dana has 900... John has 1200... but Noah comes out on top with 2000 on the premiere edition of "Celebrity Says!" The others are going home with the TV Guide edition of the Don't Quote Me game.

Here's how the final round works. Five questions about a celebrity. Tonight, it's Johnny Depp. Every question gotten is worth $200. Get all five, and that's $5000 cash money. Noah thinks he got five out of five. He DOES get five out of five for $5000!

In the nightcap of the hourlong premiere...

Brigitte Bune
Riverside, CA
Sam Lembeck
Los Angeles
Laura Clancy
Dublin, Ireland

Sam ninjas in the Speed Round to come back and win it, 1600 to Brigitte's 1300 and Laura's 800.

Final Round about Jake Gyllenhaal. Sam only comes up with four of the five for $800.

two games, $20,925
Peterson (Ron, Kathryn, Kendra, Jeremy, Becky)
St. Paul, MN

Round 1: a reason why a man might not recognize his high school sweetheart at his 25th reunion (6). Ron fires prematurely, but gets the big one with gaining weight. Dyeing hair, wrinkles, plastic surgery, losing weight, and... one answer left on the board. The Sinclairs try to take it with him having bad eyesight. Not there; 95 to the challengers. Other answer: sex change.

Round 2: an occupation where you'd guess there are many millionaires (7). Taylor gets the upper hand, #2 doctor to #4 computer programmer. Tracy gets the biggie, movie star. Stockbroker, athlete, lawyer, and real estate developer sweep the board for 91.

Double: the first thing you reach for when you're stressed out (full board). Food beats cigarette, 2 to 3. Kendra gets it. Jeremy reaches for a stiff drink for #1. The Sinclairs get a chance with happy pills... Got it for 209. Other answer: TV remote, Bible/prayer.

Triple: something a woman spends a lot of time picking out (4). Jeremy gets the big one, a dress. Kathryn spent a lot of time picking out... Ron. That's #2. The Sinclairs can take the game with a career... Not there! Petersons win, 368-209. Other answers: gifts, eyebrows.

Fast Money: lovey-doveys Ron & Kathryn get 220 for $20,000!

Hope you enjoyed the kids from the last two weeks, but now we're back to the adults...

Aileen Hawkins
Dana Point, CA
stay at home mom
$2399
Beth Holliday
Vail, AZ
legal writer
Bill Needle
Chagrin Falls, OH
play-by-play announcer

Aileen starts with $200 "OL". Bill finds the Daily Double under $600 Americana. He bets it all on this: after getting lost crossing a California desert & suffering intensely, emigrants gave the area this name. "What is Death Valley?" Correct for $3200 and in a pleasing baritone. He ends the round with $5200, but Aileen comes back to lead with $8400. Beth, with $2800, will start Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Song Titles - Now in German! Aileen finds the first Daily Double under $800 Ends in 2 Vowels. She wagers $1000 on this: slang for a private eye like Sam Spade, it can also mean to move softly. "What is gumshoe?" Correct for $18,200. She gets the final clue as well, the second Daily Double under $1200 They Mean Business! She bets just $400 on this: "Computer, communication, compatibility" were combined to describe the business of this Silicon Valley company. "What is 3Com?" Correct for the lock game and $21,800 to Beth's $1000 and Bill's $9200.

Final Jeopardy! in "Biblical Place Names": in "Return of the Jedi", a planet shares its name with this home of a woman who summons a spirit for Saul. Correct response: what is Endor?

I'm getting a Sister-Gram here... (Sister-Gram: strictly speaking, "Endor" wasn't a planet, it was a moon). Doesn't matter to Aileen, she got it right to win a two-day take of $24,199.

After a shaky start, Tara finds the Extra. She risks $100 on this 'You Dirty ___'. Dog? No. Rat. She drops back to $0. John leads $100 Vs. $50 for Tara.

Speaking of dirty rats...

Dawn Jolson

Jacqueline Everly

Bob spoils John to get to $500. He finds the Extra at $1,300 and bets $1,000 on this - A golf ball is driven on it. 'Tee' gets him to $2,300 and a nice lead. Its the all Bob show as he gets to $3,800. He bets $2,000 on this - 'Postulation'. Tenet? Yes, for $5,800. He leads $5,800 to $150 at the break, with both John and Dawn locked out.

Round 3: Jacqueline spoils Bob early for $5,600. Bob spoils...Tara's podium and he's stuck at $350. Dawn spoils Jacqueline and everyone now has had a shot at the front. Bob maxes out on this - 'Chief ore of lead'. Galena gets him to $2,850, but he's very far away from Dawn and time runs out. Dawn wins the money that Bob built up. Wasn't that nice of Bob.

That gives Dawn $5,800. Can she add 5 Gs and a trip to St. Lucia? Yes she can. and dies it with plenty of time to spare. Dawn leaves with $10,800 and a trip to St. Lucia.

What I learned on Crosswords

Poker After Dark

It's another International Week with six players representing six different countries...

Patrik Antonius
Finland
$20,000
Johnny Chan
China
$20,000
Roland de Wolfe
UK
$20,000
Daniel Negreanu
Canada
$20,000
Gus Hansen
Denmark
$20,000
John Juanda
Indonesia
$20,000
BLINDS: $100/$200

After jokes about Demetri Nobles (arguably the best poker player to come from England), we have a three-way flop of 3-5-2. Johnny has a pair of 5s and a gut-shot draw, while Daniel has a pair of 4s with an open-ended straight draw. Patrik... nothing yet. Johnny bets. The turn: A♦. That'll give Daniel the Wheel to Johnny's Aces up. River: A♠. That gives Johnny the nuts with Aces full of 5s. In the end, Daniel says take it. Johnny does with $26,100.

"Come from (^_^)ing Canada to throw down straights."

Three more hands want a flop. We give'm one: 2-7-A, two diamonds. Daniel has a diamond draw, while Johnny has pocket Jacks. Turn: 7♦. Daniel's made the flush, but Johnny refuses to roll over. He can win with a 7 or a Jack. But Johnny says "Have a good day" and gives Daniel back $4300 of his added to the $3000 he bet.

Three more hands come out with this flop: 10-J-Q, two hearts. Daniel has two hearts of his own, but John and Roland have straight draws. John throws his away. Turn: 5♠. Roland also has the spade draw now. River card... K♦. Roland makes the nuts with an ace-high straight for $8200.

After the two bald Europeans go over to talk to the Argentinean delegate (Marianela's from Argentina), we end this night's action of "Win Daniel Negreanu's Money" with Roland winning $4050 pre-flop. "That's like an away win." We'll see if he can get another one tomorrow.

So far, the number of Price Is Right-made millionaires number one... Adam Rose. We won't have another until Friday... MAYBE. But we do have Marco Franzitta, Sharon Cook, Elizabeth Escudero, Justine Mayer, and a Dell... Dude, you're getting a price of $2507. But can Sharon get a Gemcar in Flip-Flop? The price is not $9759. She flip-flops to $7995. That's good to win.

Elizabeth gets a $1130 set of backpacks and duffels. Next, something to pack them inside, a Chevrolet Cobalt in Let'em Roll. First on the counter, $7.99 for Nutramist Sleep Now. Are Glad Forceflex bags lower? Yep at $4.99. And is a V8 bottle lower still? Yep, at $3.15. That gives her three rolls. The first roll: three cars and $2500. She rolls again... $2500. She rolls again and wins... $1500.

Asher Hoffman is down and up thanks to a $1599 gas range. Now he tries for golf clubs, an acoustic guitar, a heart crib, and an elliptical trainer. Two of them total $4549. Time to Take Two. Golf clubs are $1353. The trainer is $2500. Total of... $3853. She keeps the trainer and goes with the guitar... $1069, total of $3569. Should've kept the trainer... and went with the $2049 crib.

Elizabeth spins out a win on the Wheel. Justine spins out a winning bid for an $869 set of language courses. Now comes a hot tub in the Balance Game. The bags: $94, $2000, $3000, and $5000. She goes for a total of $7094... Not right. It was $5094.

Jewel Wecker is down and up thanks to an $833 dinette. Can she win a Chrysler PT Cruiser? The price is not $28,326, but each digit is One Away. She tries $17,415. One... two... three... four... Four honks. She changes the second 1 to a 3 for the win.

Marco is lagging behind. He needs a win with an area rug. Price: $2498. Winner... Marco! Next up, a Simpsons Pinball Party pinball marked at $3295 and a motorcycle marked at $3199 at Barker's Bargain Bar. He goes with the motorcycle. The pinball is $4595. The motorcycle is $4199. $1300 beats $1000, and we won't be seeing Marco on either. But we will see Marco at the Showcase thanks to the Wheel.

Whatever happened to Peter Pan? He ends up in the Showcase with a trip to Vegas, a trip to Switzerland, and a ski boat. Top winner Elizabeth passes, and Marco bids $15,927. Next up, Blits Photography is just one of three crazy business cards with a digital camera, an HDTV, and a Pontiac Grand Prix. Elizabeth bids $17,444. Actual price: $25,649, a difference of $25,649, a difference of $8205. Actual price of Marco's Showcase... $38,726, a difference of $38,776. That gives the win, and $28,319, to Elizabeth.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
by Don Harpwood

Air time: Check local listings
Host: Meredith Vieira
Website: www.millionairetv.com
It's another week, and for some reason, I have a good feeling about it.

Helen Pinkston (Kansas City, MO): A registered nurse, she came wearing some kinky pink boots. Apparently, they're her lucky boots, because she has never had a bad time while wearing them. Oh, and her daughter, Nancy (in the audience), was on the show earlier this season (October 5 & 8), when she won $16,000!

Anyway, Helen is having a good time here so far, as she sweeps the lower tier. Then, eventually, this pops up...

[$16,000]
Located on the Patapsco River, the Inner Harbor is a popular tourist destination in what major U.S. city?
A: Baltimore
B: Philadelphia
C: Savannah
D: Boston

Geography is Helen's worst subject, so she asks the audience. 71% say A. She trusts them... and they're right!

[$25,000]
"French vanilla" ice cream, as opposed to regular "vanilla," is required by law to contain at least 1.4 percent what?
A: Butter
B: Heavy cream
C: Egg yolk
D: Organic milk

Helen decides to use the Phone-A-Friend to call Renee, and she thinks it's A, though she admits that it's a toughie. Helen is also thinking A, but to be sure, she uses the 50:50. B and C remain. So much for that. Still, Helen goes for it. She says C... and she has $25,000, meaning she has now done better than her daughter! Helen then switches out a question, leading to this...

[$50,000] (Q)
Though it sounds like a type of pigeon, a wigeon is actually a type of what bird?
A: Hawk
B: Owl
C: Duck
D: Turkey

She wants to say that it's A or B. Helen locks in B... but it's C! Well, she still has $25,000, at least!

Joanna Walker (Queen Creek, AZ): She's a stay-at-home mom, and her family is in the middle of a tough time financially, so her parents flew her to NYC for this.

She can at least be assured of $1,000 after the first 5 questions. Then, soon after that, she sees this...

[$4,000]
John Hinckley claimed that he shot Reagan to impress Jodie Foster, with whom he had grown obsessed after viewing what film?
A: Chinatown
B: Apocalypse Now
C: The Godfather
D: Taxi Driver

Joanna asks the audience, and 88% are thinking D. She goes with that... and it's D! That will do it for now; Joanna will return tomorrow.
