Burton is decked out luau-style
because one of eight families can win up to $130,000 and a trip to
Hawaii on Family Feud's annual winner-take-all Tournament of
Champions! So far, the pot is at $70,000, and today, one of these
families is going to win it. It's Houston vs. Dallas...
Stewart
(Janet, Tolenia, Raymael, Sharon, Robert) from
Houston |
Rambo
(Jack, Angela, JR, Natalie, Jay) from Dallas |
JACKPOT: $70,000 |
Remember, the first team
to 400 will win the $70,000 and the trip to Hawaii.
Round 1: 100 women,
something you compliment a man on just to feed his ego (7).
Jack's body is good for 3, while Janet compliments his
smile for number one. Brain, job, and attire come from
the Stewarts, but his sense of humor goes to the Rambos
for the 85-point steal. Other answer: he smells good.
Round 2: something people
always run out of when people have a party (6). Angela's
ice beats Tolenia's food, 2 to 3. Natalie comes up with
number one, the drinks. The Stewarts try the steal with
"space"... Not there! Rambos double up with 170! Other
answer: cups/glasses, napkins, toilet paper (said!)
Round 3: If you criticize
a chef's cooking, something he might hit you with (7).
JR buzzes in with a spatula.. Number 2. A skillet is
number one for Raymael. The rest of Raymael's family
comes up with a spoon, food, and rolling pin. The Rambos
try to steal with "his fists". Not there, the Stewarts
get 88! Other answers: knife, cleaver.
Round 4: Something many
people put off doing because it's too expensive. Sharon
fires with going on vacation, number one. The Stewarts
buy clothes, buy houses, and buy cars, but the Rambos
have a baby for the steal... Yes! The Rambos have 247.
Other answer: home improvement.
Double Round: Something
you shouldn't eat before a dental checkup (5). Jay goes
with candy... top of the board, ma! The rest of the
Rambos go with chewing gum, but the Stewarts have a
chance to steal it with onions... Got it for 206! Other
answers: garlic, nuts/peanut butter.
The triple round will
decide it...
Triple Round: something
that can have a dead end (4). Janet fires with a road...
Number one answer! Tolenia... a book. Strike one.
Raymael: a job... Number two! Sharon: a relationship...
Strike two! Robert: a life... Strike three! The Rambos
try to steal with a hallway. If it's there, $70,000 to
the Rambos. If it isn't, $70,000 to the Stewart... Show
me a hallway!
[X] (BZZZZ!)
And it's the Stewart
family, by a score of 476-247! Other answers: hair and
driveway. The Stewarts win $70,000 and a Hawaiian
vacation with a giant novelty check signed by Jim Roush
(executive in charge for FremantleMedia).

Jeopardy! by

Paul Callaway
(software developer from Chicago); $13,300 |
Marah Eakin
(publicist from Brooklyn, NY) |
Dom Nguyen
(freelance writer from Redwood City, CA) |
Paul's wagering skills
got him to podium #1 today, but let's see if his
knowledge of trivia will keep him here. The champ begins
with $200 Metropolitan Sobriquets. So far, it's a pretty
even spread between Marah's $3200 and Dom's $2600 at the
break. Paul is behind with $1200.
Paul, with $4200, finds
the Daily Double under $600 Organizations. Having just
taken the lead, he wagers $3000 on this: founded as the
Christian Mission, it changed its name to this in 1878.
"What is the Salvation Army?" Right for $7200. He drops
to $6400, but still leads ahead of Marah's $5800. Dom,
with $1000, gets first pickings of the board in Double
Jeopardy!...
... but first, a scoring
change, giving Dom $2600. Still in third place, he
starts the round with $400 In the Dictionary. Paul finds
the first Daily Double under $1200 Early Man, betting
the level on this: Homo erectus reached this island
between 1 & 2 million BC; Homo dutch traderensis in 1596
AD. "What is Tasmania?" Nope, it was Java, but he still
leads with $6000. Later in the round, Paul trails Marah
by $1000 as he goes for the second Daily Double under
$1200 French Sauces. He bets $4000. The clue: a bigarade
is a bitter one of these; bigarade sauce is often used
on duck. "What is an orange?" THAT... would've gotten
him the lead. Onion drops him to third place and $3200.
He rebounds slightly to $5200, but Marah still holds the
lead with $3800. Dom, burying his head in his hands, has
$3800
Final Jeopardy!
in "Famous Painters": his twin daughters both
married generals, & his portrait of one of his
sons-in-law is seen here. Correct question: Who was
Jacques Louis David?
It was not Manet, Renoir,
or Monet, as all three miss out. It's gonna be another
low payday as Marah walks away with $8800, to return
tomorrow. Paul, not so lucky; he leaves with $14,300. |

The
Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |

The day after President's
Day. Mail will be delivered, banks will be open, the
Stock Market will...um...stock. Here's what happened at
7800 on this date in history.
Your First Four: Tammy Bowler, Brenda Sanchez, Ransom
Gilbert, and Linda Johnson. They take their first bids
on a Hoist Fitness V2 home gym. Tammy takes down this
$2460 gym to take her chances at Coming or Going for a
Yamaha ivory white upright piano. Is it $7895 or
$5987? She's "Going" wtih $5987, and she'll be "Going"
away with no piano.
Even though that was tragic, things were about to
change. Ransom, a member of a group of Bible students,
picked up a hanpainted Pulaski chest, valued at $1470.
He then takes his shot at 50 Large on the Giant Peg
Board. With his free chip, he earned two more by
picking up the ball ice cream maker and a ceramic cookie
jar ($29 and $36, respectively). He hoofed to the top
of the board and, releasing all three on the far right,
landed TWO in $10,000...but the last one landed in -0-,
just a fraction of an inch away from breaking the
record.
Ah, it's nice when a glow comes from the studio. That
glow will continue. Linda of the First Four picked up a
$486 Worx power tool kit. Her game: Ten Chances (insert
exasperation here) for a "Lady & The Tramp" DVD, Oneida
Frost flatware, and a Pontiac G6. Unlike many
contestants this season before her, Linda actually knows
how to play this game. She used the logical maximum two
guesses for the DVD (given 2 0 3), winning it on Chance
2 with $30. Given 5 7 0 8 for the flatware, she quickly
wrote 750 and won that, leaving seven shots at the car
given 3 4 0 1 2. Scratching out "2410", she quickly
fills in 24310. Nope. OK, how about 23410? Nuh uh.
OK, let's try 24310 (again). Still not right*. How
about 21324? Wait, no, let's scratch that one out for
21340. YES!! A WIN IN TEN CHANCES!!
*T-MAC NOTE: Her writing of $24,310 twice reminded me of
a Stewie Griffin quote: "If it wasn't right the first
time, why would it be right the NEXT TEN TIMES?"
That said, our Jesus-crediting Bible student makes it
thru to the Showcases with 90¢. His first spin barely
made it around, going from 60 to 90 only. Bob said, "A
guy that size that can't get the Wheel all the way
around. That's disgusting." We agree.
The second half wasn't quite as pretty. Brenda, the
last of the First Four to escape, picked up a La-Z-Boy
Zanto recliner (along with some Campbell's
Soup-In-A-Box), worth $629. Her game: Switch? for a
trip to Santa Fe ($5773) and Chicago ($4857). Does she
follow trip logic and switch the prices? No...and it
burned her.
Next, new contestant Irene Bordman picked up a set of
three Sea-Doo water tubes, worth $637. She took to the
Turntable to play Money Game for a Ford Focus ZX4SE.
The Board:
44 50 35
95 18 19
60 85 17
$ - - 1 - -
She makes no hesitation in taking 19 for $19. She then
takes 17 and hits the front of the car. Taking 95 bumps
her total to $114. Then, she took 35 to take home the
$17,135 car!
Finally, contestant Keith Taylor pciked up a 4 piece
Pathfinder Luggage (with Francesco Rinaldi sauce),
valued at $1070. He's now able to pick up a Great Lakes
barrel sauna, valued at $5245 in Hi Lo. The items:
Aspercreme patches, La Choy soy sauce, Poligrip strips,
a large size Space Bag, New Phase, and Bayer Low-Dose
aspirin. Taking the Bayer first, at $11.97, he then
moves to the Poligrip with a groan from the crowd. The
strips: $4.89. Even Bob shudders a bit. His last Hi
choice was the New Phase, at $15.99. Now, do YOU think
he won? Well, the soy sauce was less than $4.89
($1.68), but that was it. The patches: $8.99. The
Space Bag: $5.99.
Brenda makes it thru to the Showcases with a Spinoff
score of 65¢ to 15¢.
Ransom is our Top Winner, and Brenda is our Runner Up.
Showcase #1 features Harriet Homely at Last Resort
Dating Service. The prizes within: Whirlpool Ultimate
Care washer/dryer, a Ridgeway Lexington grandfather
clock, and a Crown Line 18' 180BR Bowrider ski boat.
Ransom passes this to Brenda, who bid $27,000.
Showcase #2 consisted of a Fire Magic Regal grill, a
Broyhill Urban View dining room with Michael C. Fina
Limoges Blanc china, and a Wurlitzer 100-CD Jukebox.
Ransom bids $10,522.
How close is Ransom? Not too close. ARP: $18,999 for a
difference of $8477. At least he didn't bid $19,000.
Brenda's Showcase: $28,693 for a difference of $1693 and
the WIN. She walks away with $29,362.
STATS: 3/6; $94,879 |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Million Dollar Movie Week
rolls on, and Austin Kennedy (Andover, MN) has reached
$25,000, having used 2 lifelines along the way...
In addition to what he went through to see "Star Wars
Episode I," Austin also gave up his job to see "Fargo"
on opening day! He says he's now an independent
filmmaker, which means he's sorta unemployed, as he
said. So he could certainly use the money. With that,
the game continues...
[$50,000]
In Akira Kurosawa's classic 1950 film "Rashomon,"
Rashomon is the name of a what?
A: Horse
B: Sword
C: Police station
D: Gate
Austin hasn't seen that one, so he switches the
question. After seeing that the answer was D, he goes on
to this...
[$50,000] (Q)
In "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," which of these
is not one of the historical "dudes" encountered by Bill
and Ted?
A: Beethoven
B: Genghis Khan
C: Galileo
D: Billy the Kid
Austin seems excited upon seeing the question. He says
C... and he's right! Moving on...
[$100,000]
In the 1982 film "Diner," one supporting character
compulsively quotes lines from what classic movie?
A: From Here to Eternity
B: The Seven Year Itch
C: On the Waterfront
D: Sweet Smell of Success
Austin asks the audience. 61% of the studio audience and
39% of the AIM users say C. Austin trusts them... but
they're wrong! Only 11% of the studio audience and 13%
of the AIM users gave the right answer, which was D!
Ouch. But hey, he does leave with $25,000!
Next up is Holly Roberts (Farmington, MN), a senior at
the University of Minnesota, looking to graduate with a
degree in film. She doesn't know what she'll do with
that degree, though. But hopefully, she has learned
enough to go really far if not all the way in this game!
Holly starts by knowing that the 2005 documentary "March
of the Penguins" depicts the plight of emperor penguins
in Antarctica (though one could probably imagine if a
live penguin were to show up at a Department of Motor
Vehicles). She easily gets to $1,000, then soon faces
this...
[$4,000]
In this scene from "A Christmas Story," Ralphie uses his
prized decoder pin to decipher the line "Be sure to"
what?
A: Eat your Wheaties
B: Clean with Ivory Soap
C: Drink your Ovaltine
D: Brush with Colgate
[This question is accompanied by a clip from the
aforementioned movie, showing Ralphie deciphering the
first few letters of "Be sure to".]
Holly decides to ask the audience. 65% of the studio
audience says C, and 55% of the AIM users agree. Holly
trusts them... and this time, they're right! Then, after
a couple more, this pops up...
[$25,000]
At the end of "The Deer Hunter," Meryl Streep's
character leads the other mourners in a rendition of
what song?
A: Battle Hymn of the Republic
B: I'll Be Seeing You
C: Auld Lang Syne
D: God Bless America
Holly calls her mother Diana, but she has no idea. Holly
then uses the 50:50, which leaves A and D. With that,
she just goes for it, saying D... and she has $25,000!
Another question later, and she has this one...
[$100,000]
In the 1997 movie "Titanic," Jack wins passage onto the
doomed vessel with what poker hand?
A: Straight
B: Flush
C: Full house
D: Four of a kind
Holly switches it out. The answer was C, which was what
she would have guessed, but she now has to deal with
this...
[$100,000] (Q)
In the 1941 movie "Citizen Kane," what is the name of
the sled that replaces Kane's beloved sled Rosebud?
A: Globetrotter
B: The Crusader
C: Paramount
D: The Intrepid
Holly isn't sure enough, so she walks. The answer is
revealed to be B, but that's alright, because she has
$50,000!
That's all for today. More movie trivia coming up
tomorrow!
Just a reminder; there's a sweepstakes at
www.netflix.com/Millionaire going all week. You can
enter it to win a 20" widescreen LCD TV with built-in
DVD player. |
