It's been a while since we've seen
a new trip in the Cab, but that's what we're getting as we
head to 81st and Amsterdam with Michael and Amy. They need a
mobile shoutout on this: what former California congressman
had a much publicized affair with Chandra Levy? They skunk
out... It was Gary Condit. They get $200 going into a Red
Light Challenge: five members of Monty Python. They get John
Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, and Graham
Chapman, so aside from being total geeks, they're $250 richer
for $450 total. They miss out on another $50 after they
couldn't guess America's oldest institution of higher learning
(Harvard). And finally... what Midwestern state has the
largest Amish population in the US? They go with Iowa... it
was Ohio. And we're saying "sayonara."
Sixth between Bleecker and Austen
is next. Riding there are Carla and Josh. They use an early
street shoutout: in "Taxi Driver", what actor said, "You
talkin' to me?" They go with Robert De Niro... Right! They use
the mobile on another early $25er: what cozy name did FDR give
the radio addresses that he delivered during the Great
Depression. They go with the Fireside Chats... Right for $100!
They too have $200 going into a Red Light Challenge: the six
birds named in "The 12 Days of Christmas". We have a
partridge, a turtle dove, geese, swans... and that's it. They
miss French hens and calling birds. But at least they're here!
With $200, no less! But will they risk it? No. They have
dinner money. We're going to dinner.
And the Cab rolls on to 23rd &
First, where we hope to drop off Stella & Tim. They get all of
the $25ers. And it's time for yet another RLC: seven countries
have a coastline on the Persian Gulf. Name five. Kuwait, Iraq,
Iran, Qatar, and Bahrain mean $250 more for $450. Others:
Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates. From there, Stella and Tim
just rattle off clip after clip until their final question.
Doesn't matter if they miss it, because they're big Cash Cab
winners with $1150. Ironically, they miss the final question
on the disability Daredevil suffers from (blindness). Will
they risk the $1150 on the Video Bonus? Nope.

Round 2: somewhere poeple

"So the skeletons can watch it." Uh.. yeah. Lesters get
the 83. Other answers: basement, porch.
Double Round: something
you have to watch out for when you're walking down the
street (5). Deborah gets #2, cars. Right on the buzzer,
Natalie gets #1, people! The Wordlaws also get dogs,
cracks & holes, and ... something you don't want to step
in? The Lesters try gum for the specific... No! The
Wordlaws get 226! Other answer: dog poop (said!)
Triple Round: a kind of
place where parents are embarrassed by their misbehaving
children (4). Amanda gets #3, church. Jaimie gets #2,
restaurant. Breanne gets #1, grocery store! One more
chance for the Wordlaws to stay in the tournament...
"We're gonna go with... at school." That does it for the
Wordlaws! They win, 475-83. Lesters... on their way
home.
Meanwhile, Deborah and
Birlus take on the Fast Money board for another $20,000
in the Jackpot. Together, they use all 10 questions to
add $20,000 in the Jackpot! So far, it's up to $30,000! |

Can you feel the love? It's
Valentine's Week, and your first four are Joseph Wolfe,
Barbara Mertz, Anita Lefort, and Sandra Nemecek. Their
objective: win a Dink. The boat is $1795, and it goes to
Joseph! He's got a chance to win a Gemcar playing Freeze
Frame. He freezes at $4065 thanks to a friend's
decision... if he only waited two more clicks, he
would've won the $7695 machine.
Anita wins a $1999 curio
cabinet, as well as a chance to take it away in a Chevy
Malibu. The game is Let'em Roll. The three products: Hot
Pockets, Super Poligrip, and Garlique supplement. The
Hot Pockets are $2.29. Anita thinks that the Poligrip is
higher... at $3.55 it is! She goes higher still with the
Garlique... $8.99! She gets all three rolls. First
roll... 2 cars, $3000. Anita freezes the cars and rolls
again... 2 cars and $1000. She freezes again and one
more roll... Car!
Barbara takes a pair of
bikes in round 3 worth $898, but can she take a floor
clock, a model of the HMS Victory, a bass guitar, and
Tupperware? The game is Shopping Spree, and the target:
$3000. She goes with the floor clock first... $1035. She
goes for the guitar next... $1125! Finally, the model
ship... $999! She wins all four! But Anita bottles up
the win on the Wheel.
Who'll join her? Lt. JG
Nicole Panos gets six flowboards worth $887. She also
gets a chance at an HDTV, a dinette, and a recumbent
bicycle. The game is Most Expensive, and the HDTV is
Nicole's pick... The dinette is $3021. Ouch. The
recumbent bike is $1999. The HDTV... $1899. Darn.
Remember: tomorrow night,
CBS, 8p ET, Million Dollar Spectacular!
Roger Zygarliche steps up
to the Punchboard after winning a $1300 stainless gas
range. After taking chances from a jewelry box, stand
mixer, and a cookie jar, he manages to score $250... but
he gives it back. He drops to $50. Finally... he's got
$500.
Last chance for Sandra to
get on stage and it goes to... Dominic Ledesma, who wins
a $660 digital camera. He's got a shot at a Chevrolet
Malibu if he can win One Away. The price is not $27,573.
He tries $18,482. One honk... two.. three... four...
That's it. Just four. He switches the last 8 to a 6...
and that'll do it for the win!
First up: a trip to the Beverly
Hills Penitentiary, where inmates are
imprisoned with crystal
stemware, a day bed with mattress, and a Chevrolet HHR.
Top winner Anita bids $25,750. Roger gets a new game
room with "The Simpsons Pinball Party" pinball, a pool
table, and a "ReVolt" upright game, as well as a trip to
Australia. Roger bids $16,500. Actual price: $20,022, a
difference of $3522. Actual price of Anita's Showcase...

The crew is back in New York
to give away more money to people who passed their
audition tests...
First up today is Mary Robison (South Hadley, MA), who
is currently a teacher. Looking at her, though, it may
not seem like it, but she once built special effects for
rock bands such as KISS. She built plenty of things that
were meant to blow up! And yet, her students don't
believe her when she tells them this. Well, I'm inclined
to believe her. Anyway, Mary starts by knowing that a
person who is making a crucial, life-changing decision
is said to be "standing at a crossroads". She sweeps the
lower tier, then rolls through some more questions
before reaching this one...
[$25,000]
What magazine's cover often features the familiar image
of a foppish sophisticate named Eustace Tilley?
A: The Atlantic Monthly
B: The New Yorker
C: The New Republic
D: Harper's Magazine
Mary wasn't sure at first, but upon seeing the choices,
she figures that it's B. After a bit of though, she goes
with it... and she has $25,000! Now, with 4 lifelines
available, she continues on...
[$50,000]
Bitterballen, deep-fried meatballs served with mustard,
are a tasty traditional treat of what European nation?
A: Sweden
B: Switzerland
C: Poland
D: The Netherlands
Mary asks the audience. 57% of the studio audience and
40% of the AIM users say A. Mary trusts them... but
they're wrong! Only 6% of the studio audience and 13% of
the AIM users gave the right answer, which was D! She's
still happy, though, because she does have $25,000 to
take home!
Next in the hot seat is Ayesha Black (Los Angeles, CA).
She's a hip designer, designing jewelry and clothing,
but she admits to having an "inner nerd", and it
eventually became an "outer nerd". Also, she came to New
York alone, for fear that her family might embarrass her
somehow. Now, it's time for her to embrace that "outer
nerd", and Ayesha starts by knowing that a phrase
commonly used to refer to someone who is too smart for
his own good is "smarty pants" (Ken Jennings could be
considered one, and he has a few million bucks to prove
it). She easily completes the lower tier, then after a
couple more questions, she faces this...
[$8,000]
The shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere,
the winter solstice occurs in what month?
A: November
B: December
C: January
D: February
Ayesha is leaning towards B at first, but she begins to
second-guess herself. After some thought, she uses the
50:50, leaving B and D. She then just goes with B... and
she's right! She then makes it to $16,000, despite a
little more second-guessing.
That's all for today. Ayesha will go for $25,000 (and
hopefully a lot more) tomorrow. |
