Darouvar (Sandra, Sabrina, Sharon, John, Simon)
New York
$2375, three days
Craven (Thomas, Tish, Christy, Toree, Calisha)
McMinnville, TN

The Darouvars are still looking to break the mark at Fast Money, but first, they have to go through a lot of heart in the Cravens.

Round 1: a kind of play that would be a tight spot for a romantic encounter (6). An airplane bathroom is #2 for Sandra. Sabrina would rather have it in the backseat of her car for #1. Closet is also good. The Cravens try with love in an elevator... Got it for 55. Other answers: phone booth, movie/theater.

Round 2: something a man might blame his big belly on (5). Sabrina fires with beer for #1. Lack of exercise, genes, and a good wife to cook for him follow. The Cravens blame age... Good for 149.

Double: a place you've been to at 3 in the morning (5). Sharon gets #1, a bar. Rest of the champs get a restaurant, a casino, your own bed, and... three strikes. The Cravens try to steal with a hospital... Good enough for 281!

Triple: a TV show with any form of the word "America" in it (4). John gets the big one, "American Idol", for control, but the family elects to pass it. The Cravens get "America's Funniest Home Videos", "Good Morning America", and "America's Most Wanted" for the shutout, 551-0.

Fast Money: Thomas & Toree team up for 208 for $20,000.

In the nightcap, the Russ family (Van, Van II, Shawntee, Donna, Sonia; $1270) see about the See family (Sarah, Emily, Amy, Todd, Danny). Sees are sweet going into the tripler leading 227-40. Triple: if you wanted to become the next Hugh Hefner, something you'd need to get (4). John gets the ladies for #2. Danny gets #1, money. A robe is also up there.  A mansion wins it for the challengers, 482-40.

Fast Money: Amy & Sarah get 235 for $20,000.

Alison knows how to play the game, but does she know how to defend the crown?

Alison Kolani
Queens, NY
copy editor
$13,601
Aileen Hawkins
Dana Point, CA
stay-at-home mom
Katie Furlong
Louisville, KY
restaurant server

Alison starts with $200 Bridges. Guest cluereader Emeril Lagasse takes us to break with Katie leading at $1400 against Aileen's $1200. Alison still has yet to get off the schneid.

Aileen finds the Daily Double under $1000 Letter Perfect. She bets the level on this: during the Civil War, soldiers who cut out on the Army & went AWOL were often branded with this letter. "What is X?" Nope, it's D for deserter, leaving her with $2000, tied with Alison. She would later falter with $1800 to her $2800. Katie would play in the middle with $2000. Aileen gets the go-ahead to start Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 "B" Happy, where Katie finds the first Daily Double under $1600. She fronts $1800 on this: over time, the ancient language of Akkadian split into 2 dialects, Assyrian & this. "What is ... I don't know." Babylonian. She drops to $1400. Alison finds the second Daily Double under $1600 Exiting George W. Bush's Cabinet. She bets just $800 on this: his 2004 resignation letter cited the tragedy of Flight 93 & this thanks for "the opportunity to fight back". "Who is Tom Ridge." That is the right response, but Rumsfeld costs her just the $800 to drop to $6000, still within striking range of Katie's $7000 and Aileen's $8200.

Just a quick reminder. Next week begins J!'s Teen Tournament.

Final Jeopardy! in "North American Geography": this 1980-mile river that starts in Canada is the longest in the Western Hemisphere that flows to the Pacific Ocean. Correct response: what is the Yukon River?

Alison loses everything. Katie... loses everything. Aileen... only drops to $2399 to win. Alison leaves with $14,601.

We finish with the Illinois week on Crosswords...

Joe Fritz

Barbara Friedle

'Sugar Partner, in a verse'. Spice doubles Joe's score to $400, thanks to the Extra. He gets an $850-$350 lead, before he have 3 more Fighting Illini join us...

Ron Roland
Creative Director
Chicago
Betsy Wesler
Banker
Lake Park
Edward Baker
Student
Chicago

Betsy gets to spoil Joe. She also finds the first Extra and bets $250 on this 'Queen in the game of chess, Ironically'...blank. Man drops her to $1,000. Joe finds the second Extra after spoiling Betsy. 'Light-Sensitive Device' is worth $600. Sensor gets him up to $3,050 and a nice lead over Barbara, who has $1,200. Edward spoils...Barbara? Huh? Whatever floats your boat, but he's trailing Joe at the break $3,450-$1,100.

Roound 3: Betsy spoils, and unlike Edward, she finds the right podium to spoil - Joes. joe takes the podium back at $5,050...and the last Extra of the game. He bets $1,500 on this - 'Chancellor Bismarck. 'Otto' gets him up to $6,550...but can he hold on to it? Yes he can (despite 2 questions going unanswered) and Joe wins with $6,950.

If he wins the bonus round, he'll be up to $11,950 and will be going to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. He destroys the puzzle in impressive fashion, with over 40 seconds left. We'll see if this turns into a 2 week-Chicago marathon on Monday

Persona Non-Grata: Ron

Happy Friday from TPIR, as we welcome Caroline Palanjian, Jose Gutierrez de Arroyo, Elsa Alvarado, Patricia Scott, and a bumper pool table. $3100 is the price, as Patricia wins the chance at a water trike and a pair of watches. We're thinking about a pair of watches in Safecrackers. The dials: 0 5 6. She tries $650... Nothing. It was $560.

Elsa gets $1125 in a sofa. Can she win a 2008 Chevrolet HHR? She can if she can put a wee ball into a wee hole with a weapon ill-designed for said purpose. Hall's Naturals... $2.15. V8... $3.15. NutraMist Energy Shot... $7.99. Fiber Choice... $12.49. Energizer hearing aid batteries... $8.99. So we're putting at fourth line up. Drew has yet to make an inspiration putt (he may want to take a golf date with WGMC over the summer).  But Elsa's putt? No problem.

Caroline gets inline skates worth $810. Next, a dinette, four guitars, and an ATV. Which is the Most Expensive? She goes with the guitars. The dinette: $1199. The ATV ... $2499. The guitars... $1976. D'oh!

Patricia spins out a win in the Showdown. Will Mary Branch join her later? She gets a $525 patio heater and a chance at a trip to Aruba in Cliffhangers. First up: a giant remote. She guesses $40... it's $25. A Queen of Hearts doll... $60? Hardly. It's $30, which means our friend Hans is going cliff-DIVING, not cliff-hanging.

Barbara Cooper goes down and up thanks to a $2425 set of child's furniture. Can she win a 2008 Pontiac Vibe? She gets the Money Game...

91  36  75
80  20  19
46  21  55

Middle number: 0. She tries the 36 first? Wha? That's money. The 19's the front. 55 and 75... Money. She draws the 80 and wins... $246. The 46 was the back of the car. That was panic. So panic.

Last chance for Jose with a power tool set. Price: $1140. Winner... Sheree Coleman. She gets a shot at a Jacuzzi, which is either $16,286 or $14,640. She picks $14,640... Win!

Barbara gets the runner-up spot in the Showcase. First up, prizes for the indecisive. an HDTV, a jukebox, and a Hi-Lo trailer. Patricia passes to Barbara, who bids $18,500. Patricia has the mind of a spider with a sewing machine, a Mac, and a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. She tags it at $21,500. Actual price: $26,238, a difference of $4738. Actual price of Barbara's Showcase... $30,437, a difference of $11,000 and change. Patricia wins the day with $29,338.

Christian Higgins & Kim Mitchell (Tampa, FL) enter the last day of Wedding Week at $2,000. And at the top of the show, Meredith tells them that they're going to receive free wedding rings, thanks to Gurhan Wedding Bands! And they get to design them! Sounds like a sweet deal! Now, let's see how much money they'll win...

[$8,000]
In 2005, Sandra Bullock married a cable TV star who claims to be related to what Wild West figure?
A: Jesse James
B: Buffalo Bill Cody
C: Doc Holliday
D: Wyatt Earp

Christian has an idea, but he & Kim decide to ask the audience. 90% are saying A. They trust them... and it's A!

[$25,000]
"The rabbit comes out of the hole, goes around the tree and back down the hole again" is a common mnemonic for tying what type of knot?
A: Sheepshank
B: Half-hitch
C: Square
D: Bowline

Christian says it's not C. Kim feels that it's either A or B. They call their friend, Jimmy, and he's 85-90% sure that it's D. They go with D... and they have $25,000! Then, after switching a question, they see this...

[$50,000] (Q)
"Sparks" are often visible when you bite into "Wint O Green" Life Savers because the candy contains what substance?
A: Carnauba wax
B: Methyl salicylate
C: Glycerol
D: Soy lecithin

Kim is thinking B. They go with that... and Kim is right!

[$100,000]
What author's wife, Nora, reportedly suggested to him that he write "sensible books that people can understand"?
A: Vladimir Nabokov
B: James Joyce
C: William Faulkner
D: Franz Kafka

The 50:50 leaves B and D. After talking about it for a bit, they decide to walk. After seeing that it was B, they leave with $50,000!

Troy Mihalick & Bethany Crumm (Phoenix, AZ): They're getting married in 2 days after this taping! Sounds like they'd better get started, then!

They secure $1,000, and they get to $4,000 before time runs out. Well, although Wedding Week is done, Troy & Bethany's game isn't, so it looks like they'll be returning on Monday. But before the show ends, they get their gift for being here this week; thanks to Brides.com, they'll receive limo service for 14!

Oh, and one more thing. 2 couples who didn't make it to the double Hot Seat this week will be getting their gifts anyway...
Dan & Cindy: Photo service for the wedding provided by Bella Pictures
James & Yolanda: Service for 8 from Noritake China
