How Much Is Enough?
by Chico Alexander

Four players enter our newest arena, but only one will leave with any money, and it's all for one question... How Much Is Enough?

April
Huntington Beach, CA
assistant
Georgie
Korea
investor
Felicia
Syracuse, NY
entrepreneur
Meetal
Green Oaks, IL
bartender

The game is simple. There are five money clocks in five rounds. As long as you don't secretly ring in with the most money, the total is added to your bank. The two players with the most money at the end of five clocks will compete in the Final Faceoff to take home all of the cash won. It's a sheer game of nerve.

$1000 clock: The clock stops at $764 from zero, which means all four players have stopped somewhere before that. After the first clock, Meetal was the greediest, meaning he will not get the $592 he chimed in with. April has the lead, $517 to Felicia's $497 and Georgie's $428.

$2000 clock: The clock stops at $739 from $2000. Georgie stopped at $1133. Which is too much for this round. Meetal gets on the board with $1040, but it's essentially a two-woman race with April at $1610 and Felicia's $1501.

$3000 clock: stopped at $2698 from zero. Meetal had the biggest amount with $1592... until Georgie rang in with $2294. She gets nothing in this round, while the score now favors April with $3102 to Felicia's $3010 and Meetal's $2632.

$4000 clock: stopped at $495 from $4000. Meetal dances his way to the top... which is bad in this game: $2270. Georgie finally gets up with $1158, but April and Felicia continue their standoff with $4957 to $4944 respectively.

$5000 clock (this time, only the two middle players will take money). stopped at $4603 from zero. This is it for April (player with the most) and Georgie (player with the least). Felicia gets $2725 in this round. April... $2487. Georgie... $4161 to Meetal's $3748. April and Georgie get nothing, as we total it all up...  Final scores are... Felicia: $7669. April: $4957. Georgie: $1158. Meetal: $6380. It's Meetal vs. Felicia in...

The Final Faceoff with a $14,049 clock... and at $9944, Meetal says STOP! He wins that money, and Felicia leaves with nothing.

Eight days into 2008, and Dan's still looking sharp. How will he fare against...

Dan Pawson
Boston
legislative aide
$151,301, eight days
Justin Crowe
Port Jefferson, NY
professor of politics
Charlotte Glicksman
Baltimore
pediatric intensivist

Dan starts this, his ninth game, with $200 Good "By", leading at the TV time out with $3400 to $1400 for Charlotte and Justin's $800.

Dan was informed about being on the show on his birthday... and he won his first game on his wife's birthday... and he's got a baby coming up possibly today. Charlotte's got this baby, a Daily Double under $600 You're an Animal. She wagers $800 on this: scientists are scrambling to find out the cause of colony collapse disorder, which is occurring with this insect." "What are ants?" Not ants... Bees. She's down to $600. Dan leads at the half with $5200. Justin has $1800. Charlotte, $400 in the red, will start Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 The "S"-nce of Life, finding the first Daily Double under $1600 Story Line. She bets $1500 on this: Hank makes guns, gets into fight, wakes up under tree & is captured by Sir Kay; remembers about an eclipse... "What is 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court'?" Correct for $4700 and the lead! Justin finds the other under $800 War Correspondents. He fronts $1200 on this: later a prime minister, he covered the Boer War as a correspondent for the London Morning Post. "Who is Winston Churchill?" Correct for $7800. Dan manages to get back into the game with $12,000 against Justin's $9800 and Charlotte's $5900.

Final Jeopardy! in "World History": this world-changing event was first announced in a Barcelona banquet hall in April 1493. Correct response: what was the discovery of the New World by Columbus?

Charlotte bets nothing here... but Dan the Man is right for $19,601, moving him to nine days and $170,902. As for Justin, .... NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Martin Stots
pilot
Florida
Julie Yoshida
teacher
California

Julie's head barely peeps from her podium, but she's got some content in it as she finds the Extra. She bets $500 on this: one who's against (- - - -). ANTI... is right for $700. She leads it, $800 to $50.

But towering over Julie... literally... are these three.

Dan Anderson
geographical information systems technician
California
Freda Lerna
bar manager
New Hampshire
Randy Skidmore
medical assistant
Missouri

Martin gets the first Extra, betting $1000 on this: one getting the biggest trophy (- - - - -). FIRST... is not right. It was "CHAMP", dropping him to -$1050. Julie finds the second Extra, fronting $500 on this: cookie you can double-dip when split (- R - -). Julie's grimacing, because she knows this. O-R-E-O is right for $1300. Still leads it, though, $1300 to -$850.

Crossword Extra at Home: Early - - - - catches the worm: a) fish b) bird c) hawk. Text to 27677 or go to crosswords.tv for a shot at $1000.

Round 3: ... and Dan spoils Julie for $1500. Julie returns the favor for $1700. Dan returns the favor for $2300. He gets the Extra and the option for $1500 on this: minor goddess or rivers, lakes and streams (- - - - -). Nothing on NAIAD, leaving him with $1700. Freda spoils Dan for $1800... and she's a one-clue wonder, taking the win, $1800 to -$250.

Another $5000 and a trip to Hawaii is on the line as Freda will try to finish the puzzle... Too many passes means it doesn't happen. She leaves with $1800.

Christina and Mabel each spin out 60. We go to a Spinoff... Christina gets 35. Mabel... only 15. Christina gets to see Showcase #1: the fantasies of a butterfly as pertaining to a home gym, an offroad motorcycle, and a 2008 Pontiac Solstice. Top winner Tenia bids $29,575. Christina gets a living room with carpeting, a digital camera, and a trip to Sweden. Christina gets a $16,000 bid. Actual price of Tenia's Showcase: $33,184, a difference of $3599. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
by Don Harpwood

Air time: Check local listings
Host: Meredith Vieira
Website: www.millionairetv.com
The year got off to an okay start yesterday; let's see how things go today.

Julie Stone (New York, NY): She wants to make it clear that she's not a cheater. While on the subway before getting the call one day, she was studying a bunch of Trivial Pursuit cards, and some nut saw this and thought she was trying to cheat at Trivial Pursuit! Of course, she explained the whole thing to him.

She sweeps the lower tier (without cheating, of course), then soon enough...

[$8,000]
The cocktail known as a "seven and seven" is a blend of 7UP and a popular brand of what?
A: Gin
B: Rum
C: Vodka
D: Whiskey

Having ordered it before, Julie believes that it's A... but it's D! Ouch. So, she leaves with $1,000.

Phil McQuade (Long Beach, NY): He wants a kiss before he starts, to prove to the guys at his local establishment that he made it to this show! So, he gets one from Meredith.

[$1,000]
In a 1971 hit song, Marvin Gaye repeatedly sings which of the following?
A: Who's that girl
B: Where is the love
C: What's going on
D: Why do fools fall in love

After some thought, Phil says B... but it's C! With that, he leaves with nothing, but at least he can prove to his buddies that he was on the show.

[All that before the first of the 3 commercial breaks. Wow.]

Chris Wirth (Grand Rapids, MI): He's an attorney, and he seems to be ready to go.

He secures $1,000, then soon enough...

[$4,000]
As indicated on its front page, how much does it cost to buy an issue of the newspaper "USA Today"?
A: $.50
B: $.75
C: $1.00
D: $1.25

Unsure of this, Chris asks the audience. 35% are thinking A, 30% are thinking B, and 24% are thinking C. Despite how close those results are, Chris goes with A... but it's B! Wow. That sends him home with $1,000.

[And that was before the second break. Just... wow.]

Laura Miller (Lake Ariel, PA): She's a special ed teacher, and she gives a shoutout to her students back at home.

She has no problem getting to $1,000, then eventually...

[$8,000]
Although its name is often used generically to refer to a faraway place, the actual Timbuktu is located where?
A: Southern Asia
B: Western Africa
C: The Middle East
D: The Indian Ocean

Though she's thinking B, Laura asks the audience to be sure. 79% agree with her. She goes with that... and it's B! Laura then gets to $16,000 before the horn goes off for today.
