Hermosillo
(Kathy, Leslie, Jeremy, Daniel, Tina); $1110, two
days |
|
Brooks (Debbie,
James, Nathan, Cecil, Mike) |
Rewind to the end of
November, where we had the Brooks take on three
families. This is how that run began. Round 1: if gas
gets much more expensive, something you may have to go
without (6). Driving gets the nod as Debbie wins the
showdown. They also get food and vacations. The
Hermosillos try heat... Good for 79. Other answers: new
clothes/shoes, cigarettes/smoking.
Round 2: if you could
miraculously become boss at work, the first thing you'd
do (5).
James would give himself a raise... to number one.
Longer lunches (changing hours), time off, vacation
(again), and ... fire people you don't like? Wouldn't we
all want to do that. The Hermosillos are hoping... yes!
They have 147.
"I'm doubling the
points!": 100 women, an animal that some men look
like when they dance (5).
Jeremy does the monkey for #1. A chicken is also there.
The Brooks go with Master P... err, penguin. Not there!
The Hermosillos have 251. Other answers: bear, elephant,
kangaroo.
"I think I'll triple the
points!": besides buying it, a way someone can get
a car (4).
Cecil with the premature buzz-in... and #2 with leasing.
Renting is #3 for Daniel. Debbie goes with Grand Theft
Auto for #1. Nathan gets winning it ... on the Price is
Right. It's there for 249, meaning we go to...
Sudden Death: something
that might be on the rocks. Tina is in... "A bug." Not
there. Mike? "Scotch?" Right to win, 498-251.
First up to Fast Money:
Debbie and Cecil. Debbie scores with "something kids
draw pictures of" (family), "a color M&M's come in"
(red), and "the latest time it's still okay to call
someone on the telephone" (9pm) for 145. Cecil gets ...
three answers in for $20,000!

Tom Kavanaugh
(writer from St. Louis); $114,201, six days |
|
Eve Bjork
(stay-at-home mom from Berwyn, IL) |
|
Joseph Willis
(attorney from Louisville, KY) |
Don't look now, but Tom's
going to have to contend with a lawyer and Bjork today.
Luckily he has what looks to be a patented Lan Djang
intimidator suit. Let's see if it works. First up, "B"
Boys for $200. Joseph finds the Daily Double WAY early
under $800. He bets just his $400 on this: this German
received the first patent for a gas-fueled car on
January 29, 1886. "Who is Benz?" Right for the doubler,
$800. Didn't do him much good as Tom leads going into
the TV time out, $3200 to Eve's $1200 and Joseph's
$1600.
Tom on his wife being his
ex-girlfriend's best friend. "It was a bad breakup, and
since then, my ex-girlfriend's been saying all kinds of
horrible things to get back at me. I would say we're
even, but she passed even a while back." Alex: "Send her
some money." At the end of the round, Eve jumps to
$4000, Joseph jumps to $5800, and Tom... stays at $3200.
Just goes to show you, never mention the ex and money.
Anyway, Tom starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Turkmenistan, My Love, which has the Daily Double under
$2000. Joseph gets $2400 on the bordering country that
isn't a "stan". "What is Russia?" Nope, it's Iran,
leaving him with $6200, still leading. Tom, needing a
big jump, finds the second Daily Double under $1200 Not
Adverbs. He bets $2000. The clue: in 1864, he partnered
with William Rand to print tickets for Chicago
railroads. "Who is McNally?" Right for $5400 and second
place. It's a race to the buzzer now as Tom ends this
round with $12,400, $200 more than Joseph. Eve is the
longshot today with $4000.
Final Jeopardy!
in "African-American Actresses": the only time
3 African-American women were nominated for Oscars for
work in the same movie was for this film. Correct
question: What is "The Color Purple?"
Wagering
is VERY important today, as all three are right. Joseph
held back with a $4000 bet, hoping that Tom missed it.
He didn't... And he counted on the double on Joseph's
side, meaning he'll add another $24,401 today for a
seven-day total of $138,602.

Meredith Hubbard, Elizabeth
Castro, Jonathan Hoover, and Andrew Sallee take on the
challenge of a home gym to start the hour, but Meredith
would take on the challenge of Make Your Move for a
laser measure, a sofa, and a trip to Tampa. And hello to
all the viewers in Tampa! The lineup is... 7 5 0 3 5 2 6
1 9. Meredith thinks that the laser measure is $35, the
sofa is $750, and the trip to the Orange State is
$2619.... and she's right on all three counts!
Taking her place in Bidder's
Row is Jeanette Roberson. And she takes her place on
stage with a GPS system. She gets to play for a 2006
Pontiac Grand Prix! Her game is One Away, and the setup
is this: $34,672. She tries $25,561. One... two... Two
honks. She changes it up to $23,583, and she is...
wrong. It was $23,781.
Andrew wins a grandfather
clock in round 3, and you know something, we haven't
played Plinko all week... Let's play it now! Winning a
washer, compact binoculars, a humidifier, a toaster, and
a free chip, he gets... the doughnut four times. In
between, though, he won $500. That's all the winning
he'll win, as Jeanette takes her spot in the Showcase.
By the way, you're just a
click away from coming on down yourself! Go to CBS.com
for eTickets.
Who will join her? Will
it be Elizabeth, who wins an HDTV? She'll have to Take
Two to total $2946 to stand a better-than-average
chance. Her prizes: dinnerware, four girl guitars, a joe
lounge, and a computer. She goes with the computer at
$1577 and the lounge at $800... $2377 is too little. She
keeps the computer and goes with the guitars... $3723 is
too much. She should've taken the guitars at $2146 and
the lounge for the win.
Canadian visitor Kara
Tait takes a chandelier and a chance to win a Ford Focus
(and maybe a little dosh) on the Pass the Buck board.
But first, here's a free pick. She can win two more in
the course of play. First up: Theragesic cream at $3.99
and a bottle of Clorox cleaner at $1.99. She passes the
buck right... Right! Next up: Coffeemate half-and-half
at 99c and Carapelli olive oil at $5.49. She passes
left... Right again! She gets three picks, and with
those picks she wins $3000, $1000, and $5000. That's
$9000 total!
Last chance for Jonathan
to take the stage... and John Goodson (no relation)
snipes it with a gas range. Now he has a chance to win a
bed with sleep set if he can Pick-a-Number. The prize is
$2_24. Do we fill that blank with 2, 4, or 8? He goes
with 8... And we have a winner! The winner also wins a
spot in the Showcase.
First up in that phase:
Betsy Ross' rejected flags depicting cordless phones, a
motorcycle, and a ski boat. Top winner John takes the
pack and bids $29,500. Jeanette gets her kicks with a
kickboxing set, a trip to Brazil, and a 2006 Corvette!
She bids $61,000. That's a tall order... but it's right
on, as her Showcase is $63,302. That's only $2302
difference. John's Showcase is... $33,350, a difference
of $3850. Close, but it's Jeanette with the big win and
$64,702 in prizes!
Stats: 2/6, $91,070. |

No more Guilty Pleasures
after today, I'm afraid. Steve Mitchell, a brother lab
technician from West Mifflin, PA, is a ONE-HIT WONDER
for $1000 in the Tossup. Joining him today are Lucia
Castello from Redwood City, an architecture student, and
Linnell Steib, a mother and granddaughter originally
from New Orleans, now living in Lubbock, TX. Interesting
fact: Linnell is currently engaged to her ex-husband.
Second tossup is a Living Thing, and Linnell gets a
$2000 FRENCH POODLE, and a chance to spin for a Broadway
getaway to New York City (say hi to Block and Pepper
while you're there). The first puzzle is a Slogan.
Rather short puzzle as Linnell solves IT'S THE COLA for
$3250. Can she convert with "Pepsi" for $3000 more? YES!
That's $8250 total so far.
The Tums Jackpot/Prize
Puzzle is Things. Steve misses on an O, but Lucia picks
up $1000 from Spafinder.com. And it's hard to buy a
vowel with no money. She also picks up a Free Spin en
route to a solve of SUNSHINE AND BLUE SKIES for $400 and
a trip to the Caribbean! Lucia's going to St. Lucia! And
if you're Spin ID number is CM 16506, you're going to
St. Lucia! So far, she's got $8400.
Guiltiest pleasure is
still cash, and we've got $10,000 in the Mystery Round,
On the Menu. Lucia lands in Mystery Territory, but will
she bet $2800 on a peek at the wedge (she'll win $10,000
if she does)... She will and she does. She redeems her
Free Spin for a vowel, then solves CHEESE TORTELLINI
WITH PESTO SAUCE for $13,600, giving her $22,000 even!
Steve gets his second
toss-up, On the Map, with THE BALTIC SEA for $3000. Next
puzzle is Around the House. Lucia spins out $5000 for
one M, allowing her to solve FORMICA COUNTERTOPS for
$6200 more, $28,200 total. We've got another puzzle
with... an event. Pat moves into Speedround mode with
$1300 a consonant. Steve solves SAFETY DEMONSTRATION for
$3900, $7900 total. Linnell leaves with $8250. But the
big winner tonight is Lucia with $28,200!
But we all really want
her to win the 2006 Pontiac Solstice... or maybe some
cash. Cash would be nice too. The Bonus Puzzle is a
Phrase. After the normal six and DMB A, we get...
A _ E A D _ _
T _ E _ _ R _ E
She was three-quarters
right, but it was simply way too AHEAD OF THE CURVE for
her. She misses a Hummer H3, but still, she gets to go
to St. Lucia, with $28,200 in cash and prizes! |
