Episode 3.1 - Blind Date
June 1

It's not exactly "Love Connection", and the Johns are no Chuck Woolerys, but 24 singles are going to be paired into teams... and they're going to be going on one heck of a date on the sneak preview of the new season of "Wipeout"! At stake, over $100,000 in cash and the title of "Wipeout Blind Date" champions! Remember, each group is playing as a team.

THE WIPEOUT QUALIFIER

Tonight, the Qualifier consists of...

- The Springy Steps: planks programmed to launch the players into the course... literally.
- The Sucker Punch: one wall, multiple punching gloves, a world of hurt.
- The Big Balls: a Wipeout classic, now with Motivator 3.0, a spring-loaded chute.
- The Trampoline Sweeper: tramps plus sweeper arms.
- The Love Handles: a group of pick-axes swinging in perfect harmony.

First up, Arielle Valdez, a lifeguard who wants to take on the world. She's paired with Scott Jones, a lifeguard who wants to SAVE the world. Arielle gets motivated on the Big Balls... while Scott earns his nickname on the same Motivator. (6:28.2)

Jen Hansen is looking for an athletic man. She gets.. Paul Brewster. Jen does a nice forward flip on the Big Balls, but then gets flipped into the water. (4:40)

Steven Brandon is an Aussie who came to the US to meet a nice American girl. HE gets one in the form of Katie Calpino, who is a former pageant contestant and a current farmer. Let's head to the International Date Line... Now let's create an international incident on the Springy Steps. (7:03.4)

Khoa Phan has been looking for a girl who can shake her booty... He gets it in Laresha Dew, but Khoa and Laresha are getting their booties shaken and baken by the Sweepers.

Back to the Springy Steps with Jayson Lansburg & Katelyn Reina. He wore a tie on his first date. Classy. It's just to get to the Wipeout Zone, really. It's a power couple. Jayson becomes the first person of season 3 to make it past the Big Balls. Katelyn.... becomes the second. A match made in Wipeout Heaven with a time to match...

Andrew Fan is looking for a traditional Chinese girl. His blind date Tiffany gets blinded by the Sucker Punch. Then ANDREW gets blinded.

Our next bachelorette Jackie Evans went to college for 7 years before concentrating on her looks. Her date Garret Camilleri is a model... or at least he was one was a kid. ... Now he's a model of utter gittishness, especially in the Sucker Punch, where he gets RUDEBOXED! (5:09.9)

Leah Hodgers and Erin "Too Tall" Paul... fall. Kyle Olsen and Christina Godbee fall head over heels over each other.

And finally, Josh Calderon gets motivated. His longest relationship lasted 8 days. His partner Sheila Den Ouden has NEVER been in a relationship. As cute as she is, I find that hard to believe. Then again, she thinks she's a cougar at 24. She goes for robbing the cradle to rocking it on the Love Handles (7:38.2).

ADVANCING TO ROUND 2
Josh "The Cub" Calderon/Sheila "The Cougar" Den Ouden
Arielle "The Little Mermaid" Valdez/Scott "Flounder" Jones
"Athlete" Jen Hansen/Paul Brewster
Steven "Aussie" Brandon/Katie Calpino
"Power couple" Jayson Lansburg/Katelyn Reina
"Model couple" Garret Camilleri/Jackie Evans

THE OVERDRIVE

It's a giant steering wheel with sweepers and windshield wipers. Contestants start on the green pad, maneuvering through the sweepers onto the red pad, then landing on the red platform via one of three obstacles. If they get knocked off, they go to the start and try again. As this is a couples episode, only a completed team will count. The first three teams will move on.

Jen is the first in the middle. And she's the first to get knocked for a loop. And she's the first across. Remember, Paul has to join her in order to move on. Model Garret upgrades to SUPER-model as he finishes. The flounder gets flipped by the banana on the end, Arielle gets on the unstable table. Katelyn... same thing. Four contestants, no couples. First couple to move on.. .Jayson & Katelyn.

Threesome in the middle.

Next up, Steve & Katie waltz Matilda to the next round, while Paul ... fails. The Overdrive slows a bit, as Scott hears the word "break up" and moves it.

ADVANCING TO ROUND 3
Arielle "The Little Mermaid" Valdez/Scott "Flounder" Jones
Steven "Aussie" Brandon/Katie Calpino
"Power couple" Jayson Lansburg/Katelyn Reina

But before we go to Round 3, here's a little bonus round for $5000. It's called...

WIPEOUT BRUISEBALL

First thing's first. No one will be eliminated on this stage.

Now, there are four bases. We start at the Dizzy Dummy, then round to the Mound while avoiding the business end of the bat. Next, down the Bouncing Baseline to second base. Foamy Turntables to third, then a slide into the tank to go all the way. Winners of each round take $2500.

Katelyn is the first to First. But the path to second... not so much power for the power couple. Then after all three are on the first bag, Katelyn looks like she nails the run down... doesn't. Arielle is the first to get onto second, but Katelyn is the first to get OFF of second! Katelyn tries to steal third... DENIED. Arielle takes advantage... but here comes Katelyn. Last chance for Katelyn... and she takes $2500! Jayson... follows suit for the other half of the bonus.

Back to business... and clowns.

THE ONE-RING CIRCUS

The circus is in four stages, each one ending with a platform. Once you are on that platform, you're safe.

- Stage 1: Tightrope Jump.
- Stage 2: High Dive.
- Stage 3: Rug Pull.
- Stage 4: Stilt Trip

And all the while, you'll have to dodge the sweeper, the tiger claw, and the ring of fire! Fire not included. Oh yeah, and there are clowns. The two couples with the fastest combined time move on to the Wipeout Zone.

- Katelyn & Jason: 5:01.56. Katelyn thinks she did a little better than Jason, but... oh well.
- Scott & Arielle... carpet bombed. Scott sets the pace, but Arielle... ends up wiping it clean with 10 minutes flat.
- Katie & Steve: ... Katie gets a time of 5:50. Final time... is UP. Steve is too slow... and when he does get up to the end, he slips, trips, busts his lip and fell out of love. Awwww.

THE WIPEOUT ZONE

Rebuilt from the ground up is the world's most dangerous obstacle course... the Wipeout Zone! Tonight...

- The Catapult
- The Spin Cycle: A vertical foam filled drum that they'll have to navigate to get to...
- The Triple Threat: Two big sweepers... then one small one... lather, rinse, repeat.
- The Rib Rage: run as far as you can as fast as you can to get to ...
- The Gauntlet: spiked whackers and arms & dangerous separate one couple from $100,000. Fastest couple wins.

First up, Jayson & Katelyn. Katelyn is first. She has to repeat the Spin Cycle, and she runs past seven of the ribs, as she gets clocked... en route to clocking in a time of 9:31.82, but not before falling at the TAIL END of the Gauntlet! Painful. Jayson seems to have learned from Katelyn's mistakes... Their final time: 19.52.

Can Arielle & Scott beat that time? Scott is the slowest of the three competitors so far with a time of 11:25, giving Arielle a cushion of 8:27. She gets to the Gauntlet... but it doesn't happen. Congrats to Jayson & Katelyn, $100,000 winners and Wipeout Blind Date champions!

We hope you enjoyed this season 3 preview. Season 3 will begin June 22. Until then, goodnight... and Big Balls.
