Auditions #1
February 5
We hope you enjoyed Super
Bowl XLVI. And let me say, on behalf of everyone at GSNN...
G-I-A-N-T-S, GIANTS!
Last season on "The Voice", Javier Colon
outsang his competition, and his mentor, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine,
could say without a doubt that he discovered "The Voice". Now a new
batch of singers have arrived with their eyes on the prize, a Universal
Republic recording contract, $100,000, and the title of "The Voice".
Returning to challenge Adam for the title are teams fronted by pop
princess Christina Aguilera, R&B mastermind Cee Lo Green, and country
crooner Blake Shelton.
The chairs are in place... Time once
again to find... The Voice!
The coaches are building teams of 12 acts
to take to the battle rounds.
First up, RaeLynn (17, Baytown, TX)
chooses a very interesting pick, "Hell on Heels" by the Pistol Annies, a
country supergroup fronted by Blake Shelton's wife, Miranda Lambert.
Needless to say, he's sold on it. ... but so is Adam. The rules state
that if more than one coach chooses a contestant, the contestant will
get the choice. Her choice... is obviously BLAKE.
Next, Jesse Campbell (42, Chicago) moved
to LA with his wife to build a career in the industry. When it fell
flat, she left, leaving him a single parent. He goes into the opening of
"A Song for You" by Donny Hathaway, and immediately all four coaches
bite and give him a standing O. Immediate favorite to win? Perhaps. But
now the choice is his. He chooses... CHRISTINA.
Daniel Rosa (20, Riverside, CA), I
believe, was a reject from "American Idol". So... not doing much for the
whole "We don't get the rejects from American Idol" argument. He's
looking for "confirmation" on "Animal" by Neon Trees. He wasn't good in
his first TV appearance, and he's not any better now. The coaches wisely
give him a pass.
Juliet Simms (25, Clearwater, FL) says
that music was what she was meant to do. She started touring when she
was 16, and she thinks that it would mean the world if she won "The
Voice". She tries "Oh! Darling" by the Beatles. And maybe it's the
amateur in me, but if you have a page on Wikipedia, then you should
probably not be on this show. Cee-Lo and Adam... don't see things my
way. And neither does Christina. Even though Juliet and Christina share
a connection with Florida, she ends up choosing CEE-LO.
Chris Mann (29, Wichita, KS) studied
classical music when he was 15 and tried to make a career out of it in
Nashville. He wanted to go home and be with his mom, who has pancreatic
cancer (the same that took Steve Jobs' life). His mother would not allow
that. He sings Andrea Bocelli's "Because We Believe (Ama Credi e Vai)",
and immediately I think back to "Australian Idol" contestant Anthony
Callea, who made his career out of this sort of thing... and apparently
so to Christina and Cee-Lo, because they press their luck. Chris is
going to form an unlikely alliance with... CHRISTINA.
Not so lucky are Gonul Aksoy, Ben Baxter,
and Mark Trussell. And for good reasons.
So far, Adam is 0-for-the-world. Will
Tony Lucca (35, Waterford, MI) fit the bill? He has a connection with
Christina, in that he auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club when he was
14. That obviously will not affect her decision to hit the button. The
song of great importance, "Trouble" by Ray LaMontaigne. Adam is the
first to hit... followed by Christina... and Blake... and Cee-Lo (with a
little prodding). The representative from Pittsburgh has the floor...
"... You have such a beautiful and silky
quality to your tone and I appreciate you for making us all push our
button."
.... nothing? SERIOUSLY?!
In any event, the vote of confidence goes
to the one who pushed the button twice.. ADAM. This from his on-screen
Tweet...
@adamlevine Pushing two buttons might be
totally illegal. I'm sure the NBC lawyers aren't happy...oh well sue me.
(Please do not sue me).
And ultimately, the lightbulb comes on
and Christina goes to see her fellow Mouseketeer.
Okay, we wrap this one up, and get you
ready for the next one, TOMORROW at the show's regular time. Meanwhile,
you can download the full versions of auditions on iTunes. he search for
the Voice continues...
