"Don't call it a comeback..."
-LL Cool J16 fighters
who have had their shot in the UFC and limited success
return for another shot at glory! The winners of each weight
class get the biggest prize of all--$100,000 and a title
shot! This is Jason Block and welcome to the "Ultimate
Fighter 4: The Comeback"!
This year, since we have 16
veterans we don't have trainers we have coaches. The coaches
are Randy Couture, George St. Pierre, and Mark Dellagratte.
We return to the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas. Dana
White explains the concept of "The Comeback". Shonie Carter
explained that he fought on PPV...and Matt Serra were upset
that all the newbies get more recognition than he has. White
explains the question that will be answered this year will
be "Do you have what it takes to keep on fighting?"
He gathers the 16 veterans and
tells them that "no bulls**t, I am excited about this
season." He explains the concepts of no coaches and has the
16 fighters pick jerseys in their respective weight classes.
For the Gray Team we have:
For the Welterweights: MATT
SERRA, SHONIE CARTER, CHRIS LYTLE and DIN THOMAS. For the
Middleweights: PATRICK COTE, EDWIN DEWEES, PETE SELL and
SCOTT SMITH.
On the Blue Team we have for the
Welterweights: RICH CLEMENTI, MIKE BURNETT, JEREMY JACKSON
and PETE SPRATT. For the Middleweights: CHARLES MCCARTHY,
GIDEON RAY, JORGE RIVERA and TRAVIS LUTTER.
He tell them to pick names and
making their own training schedules. "Make the Most of It."
We see the Grey Team train first. Shonie thinks they are the
more experienced team. Matt Serra wanted revenge on Shonie
because they fought before but they are professionals. We
both worked hard and we make the most of it. Chris Lytle
says Matt brings energy to the team. We see the Blue team
Training next. Rich Clementi says, "Everyone is a tough
bastard here." Mikey Burnett says, "I will do nothing
half-assed. I have been through divorce and alcoholism and
now I am living the life of a UFC fighter. "I am creating
the future not fixing the past."
We get the coin toss with Team
Mojo (Grey) and Team No Love (Blue). This is the same rules
as last year. There is a coin toss...win and keep control.
Team No Love gets control. Serra is disappointed in the
toss. Welterweights are up first and the decision is 4:00
tomorrow.
Team Mojo Training Session.
Serra says they are no egos here. Din Thomas calls Matt the
leader of the Team. Shonie had to be pushed as the lead
horse and it's frustrating not to keep up and for the first
time in his life...he pukes. The team asked "Is he ready to
fight?"
The fight selection is Rich
Clement of Team No Love v. Shonie Carter of Team Mojo.
Clementi says it's a great match for him. Shonie says they
can understimate him all they want.
Weigh In Time. Clementi is 0-1
in the UFC. White describes his history at UFC 41. We see
clips of the Feb 28, 2003 fight of Clementi v. Yves Edwards
where Clementi gets choked out. Clementi calls this
opportunity a "redemption for himself". Clementi weighs in
with the NV Athletic Commission watching at 171.
Shonie Carter's history is a lot more colorful. He is from
Chicago. He is a 5 Time World Champion, but none in UFC. He
debuted at UFC 24 v. Gunn. Then he was in UFC 26 v. Serrano.
Then in UFC 31 he fought his teammate Matt Serra, with 20
seconds left in the fight...Shonie hits a spinning backfist
that knocks Serra down and Matt loses. He dropped off the
map and comes back at UFC 53 and loses to Nate Quarry...he
has a few losses in a row. He weighs in at 171. "It's about
damn time. I have been shot at, knifed, and had an iron
skillet thrown at me. Do you think I am afraid of him?"
Clementi says he will get into the finals.
At the UFC House, Shonie spray paints the UFC Steel logo.
Din Thomas--"Does he want to fight on be on TV?" Matt Serra
said he needs to stay in focus.
Training Session Team Mojo...Serra says Shonie has over 200
fights but needs direction..we need to discuss strategy.
Fight Day: "You will enjoy the fight" Shonie says...and
Serra will be in his corner. Clementi is on his game more
than he is. We see the usual last minute prep and trash
talk.
Clementi is fighting out of Slidell, LA. Carter is out of
Chicago, IL

punches. Carter takes Clementi down at 1:50. Carter grounds
and pounds and Clementi gets up at 0:34. The 1st round ends
with Clementi and Carter against the wall of the cage.
Round 2:
Clementi with an immediate takedown at 4:50. Clementi is on
top of Carter--Carter excapes and reverses. He pounds away
and he dominates Clementi as Clementi gets up at 0:56. The
fight ends and we have a 10 minute war.
The recap is by Amp'd Mobile. Shonie says Clementi didn't
like the roundhouse kick. Clementi thought Carter was
effortless in escaping the holds. And by unanimous decision
the winner is SHONIE CARTER!!!! Team Mojo is up 1-0. Dana
White said Shonie owes Matt for coaching him to the win, and
he consoles Clementi. Clementi feels he has nothing to be
ashamed of. He didn't roll over for anybody.
The comeback has just started...who will be the first
middleweight on his way to a title shot?
