Let's Get
Rid of the Weak Players Before We Even Start We've all been here 17 times before, but this time, the adventure of a lifetime is taking us to the home of the world's most beautiful people, the world's greatest soccer, and the world's most dynamic cities. Meanwhile in the hot unforgiving Jalapao region of Tocantins, Brazil, sixteen ordinary Americans from all walks of life are preparing to play a game of survival, where a million dollars rests on their ability to create a new society and adapt to it. In the end, it all comes down to one thing... 39 days... 16 people... ONE... SURVIVOR. Day 1.... ish: The Ride... The two tribes have already been split... Jalapao in red, and Timbira in black...
*Trivia: Taj is billed as "former pop star". She was in SWV back in the early 90s. They have not spoken to each other and will not speak to each other until.... Day 1: TRIBAL COUNCIL... THIS early? For the whole ride, Jeff has been making sure that people do not talk to each other. Why? We'll find out in a moment, but first... This truck has enough supplies for you to survive on for the next two months. You have 60 seconds to get what you can and get off. GAME IS ON! Sixty seconds later, the truck has to move on. Jalapao has NO WATER. Just thought I'd point that out. Now as we pass out maps and dish on the four-hour trek to their new home, we reveal that first impressions are lasting impressions. Hope you made a good one, because as Jeff says... one of you from each tribe will NOT be making this journey with the rest of his or her tribe... Jalapao votes for Sandy over Stephen, 5-1. Sandy's pissed. Timbira votes for Sierra over Erinn, 5-1, who's battling a case of strep throat. Sierra, not Erinn. She thinks that she could've brought a lot to the team. As promised, they will not be making the journey to camp with the rest of the tribe... because they will be traveling via helicopter directly to camp! Rule #1: take everything Jeff says at face value. Rule #2: first impression doesn't work... change it. And Survivor Tocantins is on. On the Jalapao trail, we have some laggards, namely Spencer (the youngest contestant ever at 19) and Taj (who's looking to lose some baby weight). They stop to make sure they are going the right way. JT says he's accustomed to the hot weather because of his upbringing. The biggest challenge for him is fitting in with the other pepole. Over with the Timbira tribe, Erinn begins her bitch fits, saying that the last time she went camping was in 7th grade. Jerry, having just come back from Afghanistan, downplays his role. He's going to try to keep it as low-key as he can. Coach considers himself a Renaissance man, a coach and a symphony leader. He aspires to bring out the best in each other. He wants to rally the weakest together to pray for opponents worthy enough to defeat. Brendan thinks about whether or not he's lying. Meanwhile, in the skies above Brazil, Sandy was still pissed. The first thing they want to do is get rid of the old gal, and she breaks down because of it. Maybe she's the older woman, but she's also the wiser woman. "Let the games begin." She's going to get a bit of a leg up in this competition, because not only does she and Sierra get a free ride to camp, they get... a letter!
She's looking for that Idol! CLUE #1 "Gotta look out for number one, and that's me." She starts digging. Meanwhile, Sierra finds the same message. She decides... to start building camp. She wants to look good in the eyes of her crew. Back at the Jalapao trail, the tribe makes its way way toward... CAMP! And it's before sundown. Did Sandy manage to find the Idol? Nope. But she holds onto the note for safe keeping. And right out of the gate, Carolina starts up with the "Where's my house, woman?" Bottom line, why is she even going to go all out trying to change their mind when her name is on the block already? Night 1: We're gonna make it... Timbira eventually makes it to camp.. and Sierra eventually makes something of a home for herself. She admits to the tribe that yes, she has strep throat. Coach appreciates her hard work. But you can't change what they did as a tribe, and Coach is pushing for her ouster. Day 2: "Haven't got a floor down." The Jalapao begin working on their shelter. Carolina leads the way, as she notes that it's hard to keep her opinions to herself. Meanwhile, Sandy buys herself a few minutes to look for the Idol... She finds... CLUE #2 And she doesn't know what a pace is. Nice. The rest of the tribe wonder where Sandy's gone, which is kind of "anti-social." Meanwhile, the palm tree that Sandy's looking for is right behind her. Over at Timbira, Sierra, Tyson, and Debbie fill their canteens with water. Tyson does so... naked. Definitely not "the stereotypical Mormon". Day 3... R/I-CHALLENGE: A River, Run Through It (for flint & Immunity) Six tribesmen will race across the sand hills into the river, where they'll retrieve puzzle planks. Get them back to the start, where the other two will build a staircase out of it. All the tribesmates go up the stair, and any two tribesmates must navigate through a table maze to release a tribal flag, signifying victory. Taj & Sandy for Jalapao and Sierra & Erinn for Timbira stay behind to work on the staircase. Everyone else... GO! JT's the first in the water. Jalapao's lead is insurmountable until Carolina and Cindy fall apart. That allows Timbira to control the pace and start on their staircase. Amazing how the two people no one wanted are now leading their tribes. Jalapao are the first up to the maze. Timbira catches up on the maze... ... TIMBIRA WINS IMMUNITY! Sydney doesn't want to vote for Sandy, but she doesn't know who else to vote for. Back at camp... Carolina says that the vote is for Sandy, but notes that with every failure comes an opportunity to improve. She takes the lead on that and it rubs some of the tribesmates the wrong way. Taj notes that such an action will cause tension in the group. Spencer campaigns on Sandy's behalf, and the fact that Carolina is thinking about getting the tribe busy is not making this decision any better. Joe says that Sandy may be a liability because of her age, but Carolina may be another liability because she's being bossy. Carolina apologizes, saying she wishes we didn't lose so that they couldn't vote her home. That gives Sandy another boost to look for that Idol... but unless she knows what a palm tree is, it may be too late. Night 3: Tribal Council Fire equals life. No fire... no life. The sooner you figure that out the better. First of all, Sandy reiterated that after the first vote, she's pissed. JT thinks about making the group stronger. Sydney hoped that she would come to a ready-made camp. Sandy wanted to collect her thoughts so she could accentuate the positive. She's not concentrated on changing perception, calling herself a little odd. Carolina says that it's not necessarily fair to vote someone off because they're old, calling herself boisterious and a little whinly. Time to vote. Sandy: CAROLINA "Sorry". - "I hope you're
going to be the first one voted out, and not me." And the rest of the vote is... Sydney: CAROLINA That's five... for the record... Stephen: CAROLINA By a unanimous vote... Carolina... THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN. The good news, you will go home with fire. How you choose to use it is entirely up to you.
