Sweet and Savory
June 17 |
Last time, Season 2 began
with the artists taking each other on in a very wicked
game of chess. Lana, the Russian native, made like her
mental-gladiator forebearers and walloped the
competition. Meanwhile Marcio was caught with checkmate
in one. Now 11 artists remain.
The next round, Rebecca comes out of a cake. My dream.
FIRST CHALLENGE: Sweet
Dreams
- A waist-up dessert-themed design topped with edible
ingredients.
- Winner gets an advantage in the Concept Challenge
- Three hours to complete
All of the models are coming in in colored tutus and
fishnet stockings. And little else. Because Skin Wars,
damn it.
Today is Rio's son's birthday, which serves as added
motivation. A lot of the contestants are dwelling upon
their family for mental support. So these should be some
tasty confections. Fernello has never utilized candy in
his creations, so whatever doesn't stick to his model is
going into his mouth. Uh... ew?
Let's see what you did.
- AVI: Cupcake corset with lollipop back
- LANA: "Childhood Sweets"
- RACHEL: "Lilly Lollipop"
- DAWN MARIE: a drive-in with cotton candy
- RUDY: A bag of candy with her head as a jawbreaker
- CHERYL ANN: Lollipop and on the back... Rebecca
popping out of the cake from the top of the show.
- RIO: "Candy Land Can Go To Hell"... says the Candy
Apple Bandit.
- KYLE: "Little Miss Lolly, princess of the Candy
Kingdom"
- SAMMIE: inspired by her daughter's tutu.
- FERNELLO: "Tastes as Good as It Looks".
- ARYN: Katy Perry meets high fashion.
Top 3: Lana, Cheryl Ann, Avi.
WINNER: CHERYL ANN! She will have a crucial advantage in
the next challenge.
At the low-rent-even-for-basic-cable loft, Cheryl Ann is
getting on Fernello's nerve. He's one to talk. Meanwhile
Rudy admits to 1) having a fiancee waiting for him at
home, and 2) living life polyamorously. Bad news for
him, as the apple of his eye in this competition - Aryn
- is already spoken for. And I hear he's a nice fellow.
So there. *raspberries*
CONCEPT CHALLENGE: Skin
Wars Buffet (with celebrity guest judge, Iron Chef Cat
Cora)
- Five hours to finish.
There are 11 buffet stations in the room, one for each
painter. You'll be tested on the ability to camouflage
your model.
- SUSHI: Aryn
- CHAMPAGNE: Sammie
- PASTA: Cheryl Ann
- SEAFOOD: Avi
- TACO: Kyle
- MEAT: Dawn Marie
- SALAD: Fernello
- COFFEE: Rio
- FRUIT: Lana
- BREAKFAST: Rachel
- PLATES/UTENSIL: Rudy
Cheryl Ann gets to swap with any of the painters. She
swaps with Lana. So Lana gets Pasta, while Cheryl Ann
gets fruit. ALLEZ CUISINE!
The secret to winning: posing your model. You have to
pick a pose that your model will be the most comfortable
holding. Otherwise, she'll be moving around. A lot. In a
camouflage contest, you don't want that. Dawn Marie
(meat) is learning that... the hard way. Another lesson
to learn: always do right by your model. Your model will
thank you. Your patience will be well-rewarded. And
that's just good life advice as well.
Meanwhile, Cheryl Ann hints that there may be a bit of
blonde rivalry toward Lana. That would be .... accurate?
ELIMINATION STAGE #2
In addition to technique, execution, and concept, you
will be judged based on how well your model blends into
her surroundings.
Nothing about Dawn Marie's painting matches up. This was
her first attempt... and well, it shows. Same can be
said for Rudy's, as he tried to match up the logo and
ended up with "Skin Warss Buffffet". That's more F's
than you'll ever see on this show. Rachel's lines are a
little too thick. Rio was basically a tale of two
halves: from head to shoulder, it works. Fernello had a
lot of
technical problems with the pose.
But there were some near flawless paints.... Getting the
call out... Rio, Lana, Kyle, Sammie, Fernello.... ARE
SAFE.
TOP 3: Avi, Cheryl Ann, Aryn
WINNER: AVI!
BOTTOM 3: Rachel, Dawn Marie, Rudy.
Rachel... is SAFE.
Dawn Marie's piece was messy, and her model was
uncomfortable. Rudy was messy and without fire.
ELIMINATED: RUDY. Dawn Marie lives to paint another day.
But Rudy really should've listened to the judges. Time
to go wash off your canvas.
Next time, Zendaya plays a game of musical chairs.
