"Week One": July 11-13, 2005
It's time for the first
singer to leave us. Awwwwwwww. We get the introduction
from Brooke and the quick synopsis of yesterday's
episode. We also find out what's at stake, as Dave says
that playing up against 250,000 people is the difference
between a pop singer and a rock star. That's not a huge
dig at American Idol now, is it?
Dave calls J.D. to the stage. Is he one of the bottom
three? No, because the band doesn't know how the
audience voted. Instead, they loved what he did and they
want him to do an encore of California Dreaming. I
wouldn't mind him being in the bottom three, but he
apparently isn't, so we have to see him a bit more for
next week. We are also subjected to him bouncing around
for the next 3 minutes.
So if he's not at the bottom, who is? Brooke has the
names in an envelope, and they are in no particular
order. Those three are...Will, Tara and Suzy. Everyone
else is safe, while Brooke said that it's what the
public wanted.
Was that what the band wanted? David was surprised that
Suzy is in the bottom three. The band says that either
the singers don't have what it takes, or they had a bad
night. To figure out which is which, the singers will
each be performing an INXS song of the band's choosing,
and the band will determine, based on this, who will be
leaving.
Dave (who sounds incredibly wooden while reading off of
the cards), explains the rules, and the band tells Tara
to sing 'New Sensation'. Remember when I thought So much
for that big Canadian base. Still, she sounded good, and
I think that what she did tonight (which was better than
last night) is going to be good enough to stick around.
Next up is Will. John Fariss wants him to work the room
with 'Need You Tonight'. He is told to not work on the
first row and to work on the whole audience. He works
on...a girl in the first row, plus he's more mumbling
then singing. There is no way that he should escape week
#1.
The only way that happens is if Suzy screws up her
lyrics - which she's a lready done. Will she do it again
with 'Never Tear Us Apart'? Well, she does mangle a
lyric and she did not have a strong start, but she
recovers quite nicely and belts out some strong notes in
the middle of the piece. Her potential in the end of the
song was better than Will's complete performance, so I
have a feeling that Will is gone.
But it's not my opinion that counts. Tara is told that
she can rock and she picked up her performance...BUT
they aren't sure if it's enough. They told Will that his
performance wasn't improved to what they asked. Suzy was
told that she nailed it and to go back to the safe crowd
of people, which she does. With that, they say to Will,
'I'm sorry, but you're not right for our INXS.'
With that, he's gone. Dave congratulates him for coming
this far. Will says that they are all incredible and he
hopes that this gets blown up. Well, with the ratings
the way they are, it could very well blow up, but not
what he thinks.
INXS tells Will that he is still a great talent, and
they want to come all down and get him a proper sendoff.
They all come down and hug and chat. AwwwBarf.
With that, the first week is over. Join us on Monday as
Chico stars up with week 2.
