Episode 101/102
December 20

The British hit The Million Pound Drop has already spawned versions in a few countries. And now it has finally landed on American television! Can any of the teams walk away with up to $1,000,000 in cash or will they let it all drop.

If you and a friend were handed $1,000,000 in cash and only had to answer a few simple questions to keep it, could you do it? For the next four nights, we'll see if the teams playing can. This is the Million Dollar Money Drop!

The first team playing tonight consists of Brittany Mayi and Gabe Okoye. They are full-time students and full-time employees who've been dating for about a year. One works days while the other works nights to save for their wedding as they're getting married soon.

Brittany and Gabe are now the proud co-owners of $1,000,000 (all in stacks of $20,000); however, they're going to try to hold onto it. In this game, they must provide correct answers to seven multiple-choice questions. Each of those four 'drops' represents the possible answers, but only one of them is correct. The team playing must risk all of their money on every single question.

If they're not sure of their answer, they can play it safe and place their money on more than one drop, but must keep one of the drops clear. Any money placed on an incorrect answer will be dropped and be gone forever. If the team playing successfully gets through all seven questions, they keep whatever money they save.

Brittany and Gabe are ready, and the game begins now...

QUESTION 1 CATEGORIES: ROCK STARS/SEX AND THE CITY

They choose Rock Stars as their first question's category, and the answers are...

Q1: On a standard U.S. touchtone telephone, what numbers spell out the lead singer of U2?
A: 1666
B: 2667
C: 2666
D: 3677

Brittany and Gabe talk it over about what answers they want to put their money on. But the moment, a stack of bills is placed on a drop, they get 60 seconds move their money around.

Time is up, they put 60K on B, 920K on C,  and 20K on D.  At this point, Kevin tells the team that they're allowed to use the Quick Change once during any of the first six questions. The QC allows a team in play to change their answers for an additional 30 seconds. Brittany and Game decide to hold off on the QC until later on.

The correct answer to the first question is C,  Brittany and Gabe continue their game with 920K in hand.

QUESTION 2 CATEGORIES: FASHION/LIVE DANGEROUS

They go with Fashion next.

Q2: According to Consumer Reports, the average American woman owns how many pairs of shoes?
A: 9
B: 19
C: 29
D: 39

900K is placed on B while 20K is on D. The correct answer is B, and they now have 900K remaining.

QUESTION 3 CATEGORIES: BREAKFAST/INTERNET

They agree on Breakfast.

Q3: According to an A.C. Nielsen financial report, what is the most popular breakfast cereal?
A: Cocoa Puffs
B: Post Shredded Wheat
C: Cap'n Crunch
D: Cheerios

Brittany and Gabe risk it all on D, and they keep it all, because that is correct. Now from this point forward they have 75 seconds to place the stacks of cash on their answers, but the number of drops have been reduced to three. However, the rules of having a clear drop and going all-in are still intact.

QUESTION 4 CATEGORIES: SLOGANS/AWARDS

Slogans is what they'll deal with next.

Q4: Which ad slogan was on television first?
A: "Just Do It"
B: "Melts in Your Mouth Not in Your Hand"
C: "Where's the Beef?"

Gabe takes a bold risk of 880K on B while Brittany leaves 20K on A. This time the correct answer is B, saving them 880K.

QUESTION 5 CATEGORIES: INVENTIONS/MAKEOVERS

It's Britt's call for Inventions.

Q5: Which of these was sold in stores first?
A: Macintosh Computer
B: Sony Walkman
C: Post-It Notes

Brittany and Gabe suffer a HUGE 800K loss on C, but they save 80K on B.

QUESTION 6 CATEGORIES: FOOD/DRINK

They want a question on food, and here's what they get.

Q6: What happens to most of the corn grown in the United States
A: It's turned into corn syrup
B: It's converted to ethanol
C: It's eaten by animals

At this point in their game, they now have 90 seconds to place their cash stacks. They lose 60K on B, but C is correct to allow Brittany and Gabe to take 20K to the final question of their game. There is no time limit for the final query, and the number of drops have been reduced to two to make for an all-or-nothing situation.

QUESTION 7 CATEGORIES: TELEVISION/LANDMARKS

Without discussion, they're going with television.

Q7: According to Time, who did people say was the most trusted newscaster in America in 2009?
A: Brian Williams
B: Jon Stewart

They go with A, but then Kevin gives them an extra fact about this question which is not meant to change their mind, but gives then one more thing to consider. He tells Brittany and Gabe that the two names were of the four people that made Time's list. They're now given an extra 60 seconds, but it was time wasted as they didn't change their mind about the answer.

The correct answer to the final question is...B. And sadly, they got nothing but each other.

The next team to possess the million bucks consists of Patricia and Andrew Murray. Patricia and Andrew have met 15 years ago at a flight school in Florida. They've dated for seven years and are accomplished pilots. They are now married with a child. Let's see if they can earn enough money to get their life back on track.

QUESTION 1 CATEGORIES: SPORTS/FAIRY TALES

Patricia and Andrew start their game off with Sports.

Q1: Which of these over six-feet tall sports stars is tallest?
A: Peyton Manning
B: Alex Rodriguez
C: Michael Phelps
D: Lebron James

They bet the whole thing on D, and they refuse the Quick Change offered by Kevin. D is correct, and they keep the entire stake!

QUESTION 2 CATEGORIES: CELEBRITY DOCTORS/THE LAW

They get a question in The Law.

Q2: Heard on countless cop shows, what is the 7th word of the LAPD Miranda Warning?
A: Attorney
B: Right
C: Silent
D: Understand

Patricia and Andrew are $1,000,000 confident that C is correct, and they still don't need the QC yet. They're correct, but the questions are going to get more and more hard as they progress.

QUESTION 3 CATEGORIES: ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS/ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME

They go with Academy Award Winners.

Q3: What movie led to a Best Actress Academy Award for the woman who played the title role?
A: Frida
B: Erin Brokovitch
C: Juno
D: Little Miss Sunshine

Patricia and Andrew backed off on the betting this time. They do use the Quick Change, to go all-in on B, and once again, they keep everything.

QUESTION 4 CATEGORIES: SALAD TOPPINGS/4TH OF JULY

Patricia and Andrew choose 4th of July this time.

Q4: According to the consumer products safety commission, which of these types of fireworks causes the most injuries each year?
A: Sparklers
B: Roman Candles
C: Bottle Rockets

They're going all-in again, but on A this time. And they're correct again, maintaining the hold on their maximum prize pool.

QUESTION 5 CATEGORIES: THE GOOD LIFE/SAVING MONEY

Patricia and Andrew are pretty good so far in saving their money, so they go with the latter.

Q5: According to a Harris Poll, what was the #1 thing Americans did in 2010 to save money?
A: Stopped buying morning coffee
B: Cut down on dry cleaning
C: Bought more generic store-brand items

Patricia and Andrew kiss 420K goodbye on A, but C says 580K is sticking around with them at least a little longer.

QUESTION 6 CATEGORIES: COSMETIC SURGERY/COMPUTERS

They choose Computers.

Q6: According to the data security firm Imperya, what is the most common computer password?
A: password
B: 123456
C: iloveyou

Patricia and Andrew put all of 580K on A, and the password is...HEARTBREAKER. The correct answer was B.

And on that note, that's it for this installment of The Million Dollar Money Drop. Tomorrow night, another team will play in the hopes of not letting all of their fortunes fall through.
