Today belongs to a deep question-answering machine named Watson... but the future belongs to 15 of the sharpest minds out of high-school today. Together, they're going for a prize pool of over $200,000 in this year's Teen Tournament.

Teenagers from across the country have tried out by the boatload by taking "The Test" online at Jeopardy.com. Now the best 15 of them have come together at the Sony stages in Los Angeles to compete for $75,000 and the right to be called this season's Teen Champion. Second place gets $25,000. Third gets $15,000. Semifinalists who make it to week 2 will receive $10,000. All of this week's players will receive $5000. All money will be determined, as always, by how far the players go in the tournament.

This is a standard two-week affair, meaning that all 15 will play this week, with the five game winners joining the four highest-scoring non-winners in a win-or-go-home race to the two-day final.

So far, we have six, but in 30 minutes, we'll have the final nine.

Daily Double: $400 Quick Lit. Carlee finds it quickly and bets $1000 on this: Chapter 5 of this classic novel is "Hester at Her Needle". "What is The Scarlet Letter?" Correct for $1400!

At the end of Jeopardy!...

Close game going into the Double Jeopardy! round...

Daily Double #1: $1200 Biology Glossary. Erin leads with $8400 over $7200 for Raynell. She bets $1500 on this: by definition, phototaxis is the movement of an organism in response to this. "What is light?" Correct for $9900!

Daily Double #2: $1200 The 13 Colonies. Erin widens her lead to $12,700, of which she bets $2000 on this: it was the last colony founded & the only one established in the 18th Century. "What is Vermont?" No, it was Georgia. leaving her with $10,700.

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

As a reminder of where things stand:

- Raya Elias-Pushett currently leads the pack in the Wild Card with $22,530.
- Second in the Wild Card: Lindsey Thiesfeld with $15,401.
- The score to beat to move into the semis is $7799.

This was the most interesting of the quarterfinals, in that it started out looking like it was going to go any which way but loose, but the Double Jeopardy! round clearly separated the wheat from the chaff, as, Daily Doubles notwithstanding, it was a dead heat between the two eventual qualifiers. That's right, Raynell is joining Erin in the semis... and so are these kids...
