Preliminaries: Kissell/Polazzo/Raab
May 4

It's been said that teachers rank among the best Jeopardy! players ever. To that end, fifteen of them have been chosen from all across the nation to do battle at Sony Pictures Studios for a shot at $100,000 and the title of the first ever Jeopardy! Teachers Champion. Second place gets $50,000. Third gets $25,000. Semifinalists who make it to week 2 will receive $10,000. All of this week's players will receive $5000. All money will be determined, as always, by how far the players go in the tournament.

This is a standard two-week affair, meaning that all 15 will play this week, with the five game winners joining the four highest-scoring non-winners in a win-or-go-home race to the two-day final.

Daily Double #2: $1200 Reed-ing. Lori has the advantage again with $16,700. She risks $1500 of it on this: in 1920 American Communist & author John Reed died of typhus in this foreign capital. "What is Moscow?" CORRECT for $18,200!

Final Jeopardy! category: FAMOUS SPEECHES

JUST 10 SENTENCES, THIS SPEECH IS WRONG ON ONE POINT: IT IS LONG REMEMBERED

Correct response: what is the Gettysburg Address?

Elisabeth's response: What was the Gettysburg Address? RIGHT. Wager: $4000. Total: $16,400.
Matt's response: What is the Gettysburg Address? RIGHT. Wager: $5001. Total: $19,801.
Lori's response: What is the Gettysburgh Gettysburg Address? RIGHT. Wager: $9900. Total: $29,700.

SEMIFINALIST: Lori Kissell

A very close game all around, and in Matt's case, it's playing the game to win. Elisabeth just hopes to make it to next week, and with that score, she just might. One thing is certain: with only $6401, it's the end of the line for Caitlin Millat.

Another quarterfinal tomorrow, when we will know six of the final nine...
