Preliminaries: Missaghi/Walker/Warren
February 2
Welcome to Jeopardy! 101. I'm your
professor, Chico Alexander. It's a brand new semester at Trebekistan
University of Culver City, and one of fifteen college students is about
to make tuition in the annual College Championship. At stake: $100,000,
the title of 2010 Jeopardy! College Champion, and a berth in the next
Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.
Second place is guaranteed $50,000, while
third will get $25,000 in a standard two-week event. Semifinalists are
guaranteed at least $10,000, while quarterfinalists are guaranteed $5000
for participation. As always, any and all winning accrued depends on how
far up the ladder a player goes.
Only nine of the fifteen that compete
this week will be invited to return next week, however, the five winners
this week and four wild card top-scorers.
So far, Ryan Stoffers is waiting in the
wings for the winners of the rest of the week. Who'll join him tonight?

Daily Double: $800 Verb-atim. So far,
Will is tied with Ashley at $800. Samira has the early lead on $3000.
Will goes for double on this: this word meaning "to set on fire" is
related to one of the three basic forms of rock. "What is ignite?"
Correct for $1600!

Daily Double #1: $2000 European
Bodies of Water. Fundamentals, Will. Fundamentals. He has $8600 to Ashley's
$7000 and Samira's $5000. Will bets $1500 on this: this longest Italian river is
fed by 141 tributaries. "What is the Po?" Correct for $10,100!
Now it's a race between Ashley and
Will to find...
Daily Double #2: $1200 Classical Music. ... and
Ashley beats Will to it. She has $13,400 to his
$9700. Samira's got $7800. Ashley bets $2000 on
this: at 7, he wrote a Polonaise in G minor; a year
later, he performed for Czar Alexander I, who was in
Warsaw at the time. "Who is Chopin?" Correct for
$15,400!

Will's response: who is William Penn? WRONG. Wager:

Samira's response: who is Benjamin Franklin? CORRECT. Wager: $6000.
Total: $15,400.
Ashley's response: who is (Benjamin) Franklin? CORRECT. Wager doesn't matter...
SEMI-FINALIST:
Ashley Walker
Again, another case of "the
point of this week is to get to next week." Will could've only bet so
much and stay on the board. As it is, he's probably going to end up
watching the semis from the audience. Samira, on the other hand, stands
a good chance of meeting up with Ashley again. Both, however, will have
their hands full of a better player if they don't step their game up.
Three more players next time.
