Human Crane Finds Fluffy Bear/Fight On, Mailman Taro!

Last time, 10 Americans were whisked off to Japan, not expecting to be thrust into the craziest Japanese game show ever made.  The Yellow Penguins lost the team game, Conveyor Restaurant, by 1 point, and Bilenda and Darcy faced elimination in Big Bugs Splat on Windshield.  Darcy lost in overtime, forcing her to make the long trip back to America.  Who will be carried out the Curtain of Shame next?

TOHO STUDIOS, 7:45 PM

We pick up exactly where we left off, at the Majide soundstage, just as Bilenda comes back from her win at the Elimination Game.  The Yellow Penguins are happy to see her back, as they head back home.  Not heading back to the Japanese house...is Ben.  He felt sick, so he was brought to the hospital to get checked out.  His teammates are definitely nervous, wondering what's going on.

The next morning, Mama-san wakes up the contestants, letting them know that she's making breakfast this morning.  She whips up something that seems quite...interesting to say the least, fish flakes on a sort of salad.  Justin seems pretty willing to try it, though some of the others aren't quite as enthused about the idea.  They also wonder how to eat soup with chopsticks.

After breakfast, it's time to head back to the Majide set for the next Team game...and Tony meets them to inform them that Ben will not be returning to the competition.  He got sick enough that he chose to withdraw himself from the competition.  However, that leaves an open spot on the Green Monkeys.  The door opens, and in walks Darcy.  So, she's given Ben's spot on the Green Monkeys, giving her a reprieve.  And the Green Monkeys couldn't be happier, considering they get to keep their one-man advantage.

Time to go out to the Majide set for the next Team Game...

HUMAN CRANE FINDS FLUFFY BEAR

In this game, one team member will be suspended above a pen of balloons and teddy bears, their movement controlled by 3 teammates.  One moves them forward and back, the next moves them left and right, and the third up and down.  The human crane must pick up and put in the chute as many of 12 teddy bears as possible in 3 minutes.  Most bears wins.

Rome pulls a Chuck Woolery by giving a Japanese 'two-and-two' going into the break, and I really hope he doesn't get sued for that.

Coming back from the break, Rome reminds the contestants that one of them will win...25 million yen!  (25 million yen=$250,000...pay attention, this'll come up again later) And now to decision time.  The Green Monkeys have an extra person, so they must choose 1 who will not compete.  They confer, and choose Darcy to sit out.  Then to the choice of who will be the Human Cranes.  The Yellow Penguins choose Justin, and the Green Monkeys choose Meaghan.  And once again, we introduce everyone's favorite straight-faced judge, Judge Bob.  Say something, Judge Bob!  Bob: "Something!" (audience laughter)  Judge Bob decides the Yellow Penguins will hang first, so the Green Monkeys head backstage to watch.

Justin's set up with big claws attached to his arms, and 3 minutes on the clock...Ready...GAME START!

Justin starts off by popping several of the balloons around the teddy bears as his teammates get used to the controls.  They get used to it pretty quickly, and we find out it gets a little harder, smoke coming up around the chute when they get close.  But they drop off the first bear with no problem.  The controllers talk amongst themselves to coordinate their movements as Justin grabs another bear, ripping a huge hole in its head, but keeping control of it long enough to drop it off as well.  He gets a third, and then just goes on fire, with a total of 8, and 30 seconds on the clock.  He drops off a ninth as well, and goes for one last one, just as the 10-second countdown begins...can he make it back to the chute in time?  4...3...2...1, he makes the shot from a couple feet away...and it's good, just before the buzzer!

GAME OVER!

The Yellow Penguins have 10, and Justin is pretty pumped, playing to the crowd and screaming "Majide!" before giving man-hugs to Andrew.  They head off the set as the Green Monkeys do some last-minute strategizing, needing a near-perfect performance to win the game.

Some big talk as they plan to get all 12 bears.  They head into position, Meaghan getting strapped into the Human Crane.  3 minutes on the clock.  Ready?

GAME START!

Meaghan grabs her first bear with no problems, getting it over to the chute within a few seconds and releasing it for the point.  And that's...when everything goes wrong.  She grabs one close to the chute, but...she drops it just before it falls into the chute.  She grabs another by the leg, nearly making it to the chute, but she drops that one as well.  Less than 2 minutes on the clock, and the Green Monkeys are down 10-1.  Meaghan then gets a little confused, forgetting that the controls are oriented in the view of the controllers, not to mention she's spinning somewhat as well.  She struggles to pick another one up, the bear slipping out of her grasp again...this one even causes the production crew to laugh in the control room.  Less than a minute left...and she drops another one close to the chute!  They need a miracle to win this one.  Up she goes with a bear...and drops it again!  And she tries to pick one up as the 10-second countdown mercifully brings us down to...GAME OVER!

YELLOW PENGUIN WIN!

And the Green Monkeys just got soundly spanked there 10-1...could go down as one of the worst defeats in reality show challenge history.  Now for the issuing of prizes and punishments.  The prize for the Yellow Penguins?  A nice, relaxing day at one of Tokyo's most famous spas.  The punishment for the Green Monkeys?  A hectic day, working at a noisy pachinko parlor, plus the requirement that they select two members to play in the Elimination Game later.  Congratulations all around backstage, though some on the Green Monkeys are visibly upset at their loss.

As the Green Monkeys eat lunch, they discuss strategy, and who should be put up for elimination.  The two big names that come up are Olga and Donnell, because they're considered to be rather loud individuals.  And back at the house, more drama between Olga and Donnell as they try and figure out a way to get out of being nominated, the Yellow Penguins listening in to see what information they can get.

Next morning, and both teams are getting ready...the Yellow Penguins for their spa day, and the Green Monkeys getting uniforms from Mama-san to wear to the pachinko parlor.  And they notice an important point...that your size may not be exactly the same in different countries, as most of the uniforms fit them pretty tight.

For their reward, the Yellow Penguins head to Ooedoonsen Spa, their first treatment consisting of laying down in warm sand and being buried up to your neck...almost sounds like a day at the beach.  However, the Green Monkeys begin their day of pachinko work, and you instantly realize how noisy the place is when it's hard to even hear the owner.  Donnell gets assigned to clean the pachinko balls, each and every one...one at a time.  Meaghan originally is assigned to serve drinks, but she gets curious and starts playing with one of the pachinko machines, causing an alarm to go off, so she gets fired from that and left to clean the balls with Donnell.  And poor Mary gets the job of standing outside in the rain, handing out fliers for the pachinko parlor.

Back at the spa, the winners get to experience something not in most spas...a Doctor Fish treatment, where they put their feet into a pool of water, and fish in the pool eat the dead skin from your feet.  Various shots of shocked reactions, especially when the fish swarm around Cathy's feet...the others joke a little about how she must have dirty feet.

Both teams head back to the Majide stage, and the Green Monkeys have time to deliberate over their picks.  Donnell does a little politicking here and there, pulling out the point that the Yellow team has two men left, and if he's eliminated, they're in trouble.  Donnell: "I feel like a thousand yen." (pop-up on screen: 1,000 yen=$10)  He's making sure he won't be nominated, and the plan is to nominate Darcy and Olga.  10 minutes to elimination, and Olga still thinks it'll be Donnell and her in the elimination game...  But then she notices how calm he is, starting to realize something's up, even as she defends him.  Olga and Darcy take Donnell aside, warning him not to put Olga up for nomination, since she fought for him, and then...time for nominations.  As the swing vote, it ends up being up to Donnell to decide...and he chooses to stick with the plan, nominating Darcy and Olga, sending them into the Elimination Game.  They suit up, though no elaboarate suits this time, and come out on stage to face the Elimination Game, which is...

FIGHT ON, MAILMAN TARO!

One at a time, the contestants run down a long tunnel with a fan at the end.  The fan will be constantly trying to blow them back as they try to make it down the tunnel.  They'll try to get packages to the two mail slots on either side of the tunnel, while their opponent throws things at them to try and get them to trip up.  Most packages delivered in 3 minutes wins.

Judge Bob decides that Olga will go first, so Darcy will be up on the platform with plenty of random junk to throw at Olga.  Ready?  GAME START!

And on goes the fan as Olga tries to fight her way down the tunnel, Darcy tossing panda bears, pillows, and even a trash bag to try and stop Olga, but the first package is in the slot for a point.  Now Olga has to go back and pick up another package to deliver on the other side of the tunnel.  She comes back with her second package, and almost gets tripped up by a well-aimed pair of boxing gloves which wraps around her leg for a moment.  It takes her a little longer, but she gets her second package in with 1:30 left on the clock.  She takes a few more hits, including one from an inflatable killer whale, before getting her 3rd package with 1:00 left.  Then she seems to have very little trouble getting her fourth package in, heading back for her fifth.  30 seconds left...and she slides in number 5.  She makes a dash for a 6th with 10 seconds left, but it's not enough time...GAME OVER!

Darcy's second time facing elimination...she needs 5 to tie, 6 to win.  3 minutes on the clock, start the fan, and GAME START!

Darcy gets her first one easy, in less than 15 seconds, and it looks like Olga could be in trouble here.  She lets the wind carry her back to the start, but takes a fall near the packages.  She gets back up, grabbing her next package as she heads back into the windtunnel.  She gets her 2nd in with a little less than 2 minutes left, kneeling down this time to let the wind carry her back.  The third package goes in with 1:30 left, so this may be close...and the fourth, with a little over a minute left.  She nearly falls carrying her fifth, but gets it in with 35 seconds left...she nearly falls again with 18 seconds left, but can she do it?  10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...she gets it in just before the buzzer!  GAME OVER!  But...does it count?  Judge Bob says it does!

DARCY WIN!

And of course, you know what that means for Olga...

SAYONARA!

Out come the Men In Black, though they come out of the contestant doors this time (I think because there was netting over the curtain) to pick up Olga, the crowd chanting sayonara before the MIB's carry her off the set and even out of the soundstage this time.  So, Darcy lucks out, and Olga takes the long trip back to the USA.
