19 Chefs Compete
March 20
Last time, we met the 20 chefs that are competing for a $250,000 and a place in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant empire. The ladies made their presence known when they won the Signature Dish challenge. BUT Dinner Service was a complete and utter nightmare, leaving Gaurav as the first chef eliminated. Now 19 remain.

After elimination, Sandra is laying it into her team, making enemies in the process. Meanwhile, Beth and Rich are displaying something not often seen in the HK dorms... Camaraderie.

At the end of a very long day, the chefs are asleep, but at 4:53 in the morning, it's time to get another day started... courtesy a few MX riders. Ramsay wants the teams to focus on teamwork. To hammer this point across, he gives us a look inside the ball of death that the MX riders brought with them.

The teams are getting ready to ride, but it won't be on dirtbikes, it'll be on trikes.

CHALLENGE #2: Teamwork

Each team will ride a pair of trikes to a cooking station where they will complete one of five basic skills: peel & de-vein 12 shrimp, break down two chickens, shuck 12 oysters, filet four trout, and prepare 2 perfect egg white omelettes. First team to complete all five stations wins.

In the course of the challenge, Chris slices his thumb open.

WINNERS: BLUE TEAM

The Blues are going with Chef Ramsay to San Francisco on a private jet. Meanwhile, the Reds are going to be working on a local carrot farm, digging for carrots. Then they have to bring those carrots to HK and get them ready for stock in advance of tomorrow night's service.

In San Francisco, the guys are lunching at Epic Roasthouse, with a spectacular view of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. From there, it's a tour of the City by the Bay on a Segway.

The next day, the ladies are back in the kitchen preparing stock in advance of tonight's service. Well, almost everyone. Nicole is busy talking... to the point where no one is speaking. Except for Nicole... and Kashia... to each other... ready to throw down.

Now it's time for another chance. Second Dinner Service hopes to avoid the mistakes of the first.

"Jean Phillippe... Open Hell's Kitchen, please."

DINNER SERVICE #2

In addition to the classic HK menu, there will be a special raw oyster appetizer served tableside by Sandra and Mike.

Ladies first... and Simone's risotto fails muster. Guys hope to do better... needs more butter and more stock. Mike's busy serving... the wrong tables. Simone is hoping for a second shot in the risotto... WRONG. Nicole delivers try #3... and where's the lobster? Jason's second try... FINALLY a plate gets served. Now it's up to DeMarco on the fish... with a cold pan. Meanwhile, Mike & Sandra try and work damage control for their teams. Beth's lobster... raw and cold.

One hour into service, and DeMarco is trying to sear a tuna... successfully. Now we're cooking. The Blues are getting their apps out, but the Red diners are getting hungrier by the minute. Kashia's Wellingtons are perfect, but Beth's fish... not so much. Over on the Blue Side, Scott coordinates the first entrees. Gabriel has to check the chicken, but the fish is well advanced of it. And the halibut is no better. Thanks Scott.

Ramsay is still waiting on Nicole and Simone to deliver an acceptable lobster risotto. So much for that. It's Rochelle and Joy on, and Nicole & Simone OUT. Scott & Gabriel hurry to finish their refires. Pink. And Ramsay's done with the Blue Team. Can the Red Team complete dinner service for both teams? Not with that halibut. It's dead. It's soggy... AND SO IS THE RED TEAM.

Both kitchens are charged with two nominees... who seemingly forgot how to cook. Anton decided to send DeMarco, while Gabriel chooses Scott over the halibut mess. Over on the reds, Melanie chooses Beth, while Kashia wants to send Nicole up, which brings out a shouting match.

ELIMINATION #2

Richard nominates DeMarco (second weak service) & Gabriel (two orders of raw chicken). Melanie chooses Beth (raw fish) & Simone (undercooked risotto).

Simone says that she's a fighter. Beth says she learns from her mistakes. Gabriel says that he'll never undercook chicken again. DeMarco says that he can deliver.

But there's one person who delivered no passion, no fightback, and no leadership.... NICOLE, you're outta here. Immediately. And on the way out, Nicole delivers a final bird to the entire kitchen.

"I'm not looking for a line cook, but if I were, I STILL wouldn't hire Nicole. She was useless."
