Week 4 - August 9

So far, we have seen every team in action... except Chicago. We still aren't going to see Chicago, but we will see New York as they try to stay undefeated. They will be going up against another undefeated squad - the Denver Hurlers.

Main Event - Denver Hurlers (1-0) Vs. New York Bling (2-0)

Roster -

Denver Hurlers

Tara Dakides - She's cute. She's an X Games Champion. Not much on the stat side, though.
Gary 'Spaz' Davis - He's come up huge as the leading scorer with 8 KPG. He has no catches so far though.
Bobby Roe - He had 4 KPG (Kills per Game) and 4 CPG (Catches Per Game), which is ok for support.
Danno Kingman - With 3 KPG and 5 CPG, the little guy has been coming up big.
Micah Moses - He also has 3 KPG (what's up with the 3's?), but only 1 CPG.
Adrian Quihuis - He looks like an undead skeleton with the black and white face paint. What's scary is his low 3 KPG and 0 CPG.
Kelly Lovato - No kills. No Catches. Maybe the face paint would work for her.

New York Bling

Mia St. John - She's the captain and has a NYC attitude. No stats for her, though.
Tyrone Rush - The man, they myth, the legend. 10 KPG (Kills per game), 1.5 CPG (Catches Per Game). He's nasty.
Wade Clark
- He's got 8 KPG, but what makes him dangerous are the 4 CPG - that's downright lethal and can turn a game around in a hurry.
Portis Hershey - The crazy Chinchilla is scurrying along with 4.5 KPG and 3 CPG.
Greg Lang - He stepped it up last week - now up to 6 KPG and 2 CPG.
Brian DeCato - 1 KPG and 0 CPG. If Rush is Donald Trump, then DeCato is out there squeegeeing your car.
Tami Bahat - O kills but 1 CPG. Well, she's a newbie. Be easy on her.

On paper, this looks like a NYC win. Then again, I thought that these teams would be competing for playoff spot #4, not playoff spot #1. Let's see...

QUARTER 1 - Rush gets the first kill with a foot shot on Moses (1-0, Bling). Roe gets simulkilled (2-0) as does Dakides (3-0) and Quihuis (4-0) and Kingman has to play 30 second avoid. He doesn't, and the Bling are up 6-0.

3:52 left in the first - Lovato goes bye-bye (7-0), and Roe runs into the opening door. OUCH! Roe has to be escorted off of the court and the Bling get a point from that (8-0). The Hurlers FINALLY get a point with a Moses catch (8-1), which brings in Dakides, while Clark (8-2) and Bahat (8-3) get taken out by Moses. Rush can't handle a Moses shot (8-4) and Hershey has to avoid the Hurlers for 30 seconds. He does, and DeCato comes in. DeCato does something right and Moses finally leaves (9-4) but then does something wrong as he gets his by Dakides (9-5). Hershey has to regen again and he does, bringing in St. Johns. Dakides leaves thanks to Hershey (10-5) and Davis is lonely. He gets company after 30 seconds in the form of Quihuis. Hershey is out on a simul-kill (10-6) and St. Johns has to hold on for 5 seconds. She does and the quarter ends, with Bling holding on to a 10-6 lead.

QUARTER 2 - Bling gets 2 quick points thanks to a Rush kill on Kingman (11-6) and a Moses foot fault (12-6). Roe gets one those points back by eliminating Clark (12-7) but Rush takes out Lovato to put the lead back up to 6 (13-7). Roe hits Hershey (13-8) and Rush (13-9) but Lang gets a Big Ball kill on Roe (15-9) and Quihuis has to defend for 30 seconds. He does and Davis comes out. Davis goes truly go out as Bahat catches his throw (16-9) and Quihuis gets to cower in the corner with the Big Ball.

1:52 left - Quihuis does this, despite the barrage between Bahat, DeCato and Lang and Dakides comes out. Quihuis FINALLY goes out courtesy of Bahat (17-9) and Dakides has to regen for 30 seconds. She does and Kingman is back out. Dakides foolishly throws up a ball and DeCato catches it (18-9). Kingman has to play keep away for 9 seconds. He does and that ends the half. The Bling lead 18-9 in this very slow-moving half.

Denver was down by 7 at the half of their other game Vs. L.A., but they came back. St Johns gets interviewed. Her strategy? 'Let the strong guys throw the balls.' Why thanks for that worthless piece of advice, Mia. Also just as worthless? Dodgy the Dodgeball still dancing to 'Make it Loud' by John Cena. This is the same piece of music that he has bounced to for the WHOLE SEASON SO FAR. Can we at least get a different piece of John Cena music in there?

We go Beyond The Ball to...Dodgy? Oh, the agony. Dodgy has a dog names Buster. We get to see him dance to 'Make it Loud'. Chico, please allow me to send Joe Van Ginkel after him with a sandblaster. (C-Note: ... The chairman allows it.)

Meanwhile, the mid-game match features Chicago and Los Angeles. As I predicted, this match-up is between first and last place. Unfortunately for me, the team I predicted that would be in first (L.A.) is in the basement. Could L.A. win this and make the season interesting?

CHicago Hitmen (2-0) Vs. L.A. Response (0-2)

Quarter 1 - ...No. L.A. goes up 4-0. Chicago goes on a 17-2 run to end the quarter. After 1, it's 17-6, Hitmen.

Quarter 2 - L.A. does come back a little, but they can only make up 2 points and it's 30-21 at the half.

Quarter 3 - The new guys are stepping up. K.J. Phelps gets 7 kills and Chicago is clicking on all cylinders. It's now 43-28 Hitmen...

Quarter 4 - and Chicago pours it on. Phelps gets more kills and they pull away, 62-44. Chicago (which we have yet to see) is now 3-0 and the defending champs are 0-3. Yipes.

Back to the Main Event...

QUARTER 3 - Roe is now back in the game. That doesn't help Davis, as he gets torched by Rush (19-9, Bling). Rush continues by taking out Dakedis (20-9) as New York slows the game down. Denver realizes and responds, as Quihuis tags Clark (20-10) and Roe hits Bahat (20-11). The Joy is short-lived as Rush takes care of Roe (21-11). Quihuis takes a shot to the head. Ouch. He's not out, but Kingman is, as Lang catches his shot (22-11). Quihuis once again has to regen - but this time, he drops a catch and Bling gets the first Wipeout of the match (24-11).

2:32 left - Hershey (who came back in thanks to the Lang grab) tosses an ill-advised shot into the waiting arms of Moses (24-12). That seems to change some momentum, as Rush gets Simulkilled out (24-13), but the Bling gets the point back when Moses gets Simul-killed (25-13) and then Roe (26-13) and then Dakedis (27-13). Decato gets tagged (27-14) leaving Lang to defend for 30 seconds. Lang instead goes on the offensive - down goes Lavato (28-14) and it's now Moses who has to defend against Lang and St. Johns. Moses gets St. Johns (28-15) everyone regens and it's now Moses/Kingman Vs. Lang/Clark. Neither of them get any more points and we end the third quarter with New York maintaining a 28-15 lead.

QUARTER 4 - We start the DMW's with Hershey and Kingman, but it's Rush who leaves the court first (28-16). Quihuis gets simulkilled (29-16). Lang has a dead-on shot on Roe (30-16) though Clark gets simulkilled (30-17). Clark is next to leave (30-18). Davis clips DMX Hershey (30-20) and Bahat is all alone. If you're the DMW, what do you not do? throw the ball! She does, Davis catches it, and all of a sudden, it's a game (30-23).

With still 4:32 remaining, Denver continues to close the gap with a Moses catch (30-24), but then is himself caught (31-24). DeCato foot fouls (31-25), which allows Davis and Kingman to target DMW Rush. They finally get him (31-27) leaving Lang to protect the lead. He doesn't, thanks to another simulkill, and the lead is now down to 1. (31-30).

There's still 2:43 to go. The Bling are late getting out of the box and Clark is assessed a Yellow Card. That gives Davis a free penalty shot at him...but he misses and it's still Bling up by 1, 31-30. That changes now, as DMW Hershey commits a stupid error of getting too close to the line and Davis clocks him (32-31, Hurlers). And with that, we get the 2 minute warning.

Rush's shot gets caught by Davis (33-31), but Portis makes a jumping catch on Roe (33-32) and hits Quihuis to tie the match. Davis gets hit by Clark and that gives the Bling a 34-33 lead. Now the right thing to do is to hold the balls with 13 seconds left, but Hershey, the DMW, throws a shot at Kingman - which turns out to be fatal because Kingman catches it (35-34, Hurlers). That's a DMW Kill and now Clark has to kill Kingman or returning player Roe to tie the match or Lovato to win it. Instead, Kingman gets the ball on the rebound and he does what Hershey should have done - hold on to the ball and end the match. The Hurlers outscore Bling 20-6 and win it, thanks to the overwhelming stupidity of Bling.

Regardless, a great win from Denver gives us the following standings -

CHI 3-0 $15,000
DEN 2-0 $10,000
NYC 2-1 $10,000
PHI 1-2 $5,000
DET 0-2 Spoiled and Soiled
LAX 0-3 How did they win last year?

Will we at least see Chicago before the halfway mark? Join us in 7 days to find out if we do see them - and if they win - and if Detroit or L.A. can get off the Schnide. So many questions...
