Two Chefs in a Pod
April 6 |
Once again, Alton Brown’s
International House of Sabotageᵀᴹ hosts Cutthroat
Kitchen Mania, brother! And stepping into the squared
circle (as it were) for this week’s fatal four way steel
cage elimination are Terry, Tiffany, Lauren and Kate ,
who get their $25,000 in cold hard cash money for buying
torture for their opponents, and the winner keeps the
leftovers in their stash. Whatcha gonna do when these
chefs cook wild all over you?
In the first challenge, the chefs are asked to make pea
soup. Terry pays $9,100 to take away the other’s peas,
giving a candy pea mix to Tiffany to go harvesting for
the real stuff, eduname to Lauren and wasabi peas to
Kate, but Kate buys taking away Terry’s basket and
sharing Tiffany’s loot for $7,700. Mid-round, Tiffany
makes Lauren and Kate share a two-headed apron (leading
to the phrase “Two peas in a pod”) for $3,600. After the
cooking, enter referee du jour Simon Majumdar. He tastes
Tiffany’s finding it is too salty, has no flavor for
Lauren’s soup, likes the rustic take on Kate’s and says
that Terry needs salt on his soup. So who missed the
mark? Quoth the late great Gorilla Monsoon, “Stick a
fork in Lauren, he’s done!” Along with all $25,000 of
his money.
With the first round in the books, Tiffany has $21,400,
Kate is hanging onto $17,300 in it and the piggy bank of
Terry has $15,900. Round Two is a lamb chop dinner.
(Insert the Shari Lewis jokes here.) Kate hands over
$10,200 to give Tiffany overcooked rack of lamb, and
Terry some mashed lambs, and Terry pays a modest $1,000
to allow Tiffany to pick and select a jar from three -
jalapeno, mint and lime - and selects lime. In the
middle of the round, Terry pays another $4,000 to
sabotage Kate using a stovetop, a pot and a pan for the
rest of the round. Click clack, Simon’s back. Tiffany
has a problem with the overcooked lamb, enjoys Kate’s
chops but the meat is not chewy and undercooked, and
finds Terry’s deconstructed “lamb chop” is a lamb
burger, but likes the flavor. Simon drops the judge’s
elbow on Terry along with the $10,400.
Entering the final challenge, Tiffany still hangs on to
$21,400 and Kate is holding $7,100. And for the last
fall, let’s make some chocolate mousse, without antlers.
The divas title is on the line here this week as Tiffany
pays $4,500 to make Kate use one giant whisk and a small
bowl. Simon judges the mousses. Taking a taste of Kate’s
Stone Cold mousse with coffee liquor and nuts, needing
to be more solid, while Tiffany’s campfire mousse was
grainy. The winner and this week’s NEW CUTTHROAT KITCHEN
CHAMPION, TIFFANY! Kate brings back $7,100 while Tiffany
takes out $16,900.
More mayhem next week in the madness that is Cutthroat
Kitchen. Ooooooh, yeah!
