Episode 1 (Show #102)
August 23

Think "Top Gear" meets "The Amazing Race" meets "Wipeout"... Five teams will take on the challenge of an extreme driving obstacle course, with the last one standing taking home a $50,000 payday as well as the Golden Steering Wheel. It's not your father's driving test... This... is CRASH COURSE!

Today's five teams are...

Sarah Barker & Ty Snow
roommates
Gina Nalamlieng & Laurie Carrasco
single moms/models
Ralph & Jennifer Bryant
married locals
Chris & Sunni Schoenberg
siblings
Adrian Larralde & Nilson Goes
pharmaceutical salesmen/best friends

Stage 1 is called "Slip Slidin' Away". Teams will compete on a giant shuffleboard only instead of sliding pucks, they'll slide cars. They will be anchored to the resident pace car, Black Betty, and when they arrive at the play area, they'll try and drive their way to a center spot worth 100. The course itself is very very slick. Only the field that is touching the left front mag wheel will count as the team's final score. The team with the lowest score is eliminated.

STAGE 1: SLIP SLIDIN' AWAY

Sarah & Ty are first. They like to talk trash. In fact, they have to be stopped by the hosts in order to continue. They drift onto the course... and Sarah's mouth keeps drifting. They end up with 35.

Next up, Gina & Laurie, who are looking for the mirror on their car. They're also wondering if they're hot. To answer your questions... no, and yes. They say it's about gaining composure, like a runway walk. But it's not a fashion show... it's a car show, and they show off with... nothing. That means that Ty & Sarah are definitely moving on to the next round.

But as a point of reference, whoever is closest to the center of the board in the case of a tie will move on.

If Ralph & Jennifer lose this, Jennifer will blame Ralph. She wants to know if the car has an ejector seat... That would be a no. What the car does have is a left front platinum wheel, and when the dust settles, it's... off the board. But they're closer to the 100, so they advance.

If Chris & Sunni win the money, they want to go into business... as asphalters. They end up with 10... good to move on.

It'll all come down to this final run. Adrian & Nilson say that they have this... And while Gina & Laurie pray to the heavens, Adrian & Nilson.... are still on the course with 5. They're in... Unfortunately, Gina & Laurie will be moving out.

Next up...

STAGE 2: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

The teams will have to make like the weapons van in "Spyhunter" and drive onto a flat-bed truck. The three fastest will move on, and ties will be broken by how far up the truck you get.

The only thing is you have a lot of blue barrels in the way. And the course itself is rather bendy.

First up, Chris & Sunni, Chris driving. They charge through the barrels, and clock in a time of 25 seconds... but that's not enough for Chris, who gets a nice little crash in. And they seem.. pleased with themselves?!

Next is Ty & Sarah, Sarah driving. Ty... struggling to get back into their car. Ty tells Sarah to drive up on that if she has to push the car with her weave. Then he says do it on the straight away... They're up... on a curve... and over the side. Sound went out immediately upon impact, but these are high-performance crash cars, so thank goodness.. they're okay. Two feet on the flatbed.

Siblings are moving on, but what about Ralph & Jennifer? Ralph's behind the wheel. This is hard for Ralph, because Jennifer's a control freak. Ralph clears the flatbed after not taking the bait of the curve OR of Jennifer's mouth.

Now it's all about Nilson & Adrian. Nilson is driving. They need to clear two feet in order to advance. Their strategy: punch it. Screw the barrels. Their strategy... doesn't work. They lose it at a foot and as a result... they just lose it.

STAGE 3: CAR DOMINOS

The players will have to drive through an offroad track setting off six car dominos along the way. Slowest time is eliminated. Remember, propping up cars with 2x4s and knocking fireballs at them is extremely dangerous. Please please please for the love of God do not try this at home.

First is Chris & Sunni, Sunni driving. they clock in at 38 seconds. Respectable.

Next is Ralph & Jennifer, who needs to be scared. Jennifer's at the wheel. Jennifer finishes at 48 seconds, meaning that Chris & Sunni will move on to the Crash Course.

Ty & Sarah need to beat 48 seconds in order to win the other spot in the Crash Course. And Ty is completely coming unglued. He's doing donuts on the course... Cars are landing on him... Lots of smashing and a crashing, but in the end... it's a FAIL.

Meaning that Chris & Sunni and Ralph & Jennifer are moving on to...

FINAL STAGE: CRASH COURSE

The Crash Course is a daunting obstacle course which will take our players through a Barrel Wall, a Drop Zone, through the mudpits of the Offroad Area, between the flaming cars of Wreck Alley, and then, while the car is being power cleaned, the drivers will have to switch places and reverse out of the Dead End. then the other driver will swerve through the Garage Doors, the Animal X-ing, and finally, the Crash Course Wall to clock in a time. The fastest team will win $50,000.

Sunni & Chris are first... Chris drives first. The first half of the course is perfect for Chris, right? After all, this is a man who crashed a car earlier on purpose. Sunni takes a slip at the switch, but she backs into the Garage Door and gets... the water barrel! They set their car on fire and clock in at 3:16.

Lots of emotion with the siblings, and now for a 180, here are married couple Ralph & Jennifer. They have to beat 3:16 in order to advance. Jennifer drives first... no surprise there. And two reds and a green for the green...  and Jennifer is heading off the course at Wreck Alley. Ralph tries to help, and all Jennifer says is "Shut up!" At the switch, Ralph hits the wall...  they also go through the first garage door... Water barrel. Final time... 4:04.

No money here, as Chris & Sunni Schoenberg wins $50,000 and the coveted Golden Steering Wheel!

And the only thing Ralph's going to get is an earful of Jennifer when he gets home. Meanwhile, we're going to pack up our cars and go home ourselves. Next week, five teams, four stages, and another $50,000! Remember to drive 55, guys.
