So far in 2016, we had two champs go
three and out. Maybe Mike will be the one to break that trend.
CO-CHAMPION
Mike
Drummond
Columbus
applications scientist
$20,801 |
TWO-DAY CO-CHAMPION
Claudia Corriere
Kennesaw, GA
church musician & homemaker
$29,000 |
Randi
Kristensen
Washington, DC
professor |
A bit of explanation is in order. A
while ago, Claudia won two games, but was unable to return when
Alex resumed taping post-surgery, because homegirl got a paying
gig. Her title was held in abeyance until she was able to
return... TODAY. Mike gets
the honor and will start us with $200 "A", "B", "C", "D", "E".
Randi finds the Daily Double under $1000 Lakes & Rivers. She's
going to just bet the $200 she's got on this: in 1699 Sieur
d'Iberville saw Okwata, a vast lake near the Gulf of Mexico, &
renamed it this. "What is Lake Ponchartrain?" For the DOUBLER,
$400. She gets up to $4000 to tie Claudia's $4000. Mike still
holds the lead with $4600.
Claudia gets the honor of starting Double Jeopardy! by virtue of
being closer to the emcee. She kicks it off with $400 Whose '70s
No.1 Album?, finding the first Daily Double under $1600 Long-Lived
Creatures. She bets $3000 on this: defying a Coleridge poem, this
type of bird was 64 when she laid an egg in 2015. "What is an
albatross?" Randi finds the other under $800 Foreign Words &
Phrases. She fronts $2000 on this: from the French for
"loosening", it was a loosening of tensions between the US &
Soviet Union in the 1970s. "What is detente?" Right for $6800! She
ends with $6000. But Mike & Claudia both have $13,800. So we're
basically looking at an all-or-nothing game of chicken.
FINAL JEOPARDY! in "State Capitals": a
1957 event led to the creation of a National Historic Site in this
city, signed into law by a president whose library is now there
too. Correct response: what is Little Rock?
Nobody got it... and EVERYONE missed
it. The president in question: Bill Clinton. So Mike leaves with
$22,801, Claudia leaves with $31,000, Randi just leaves, and for
the third time in the 32-year history of this version of
Jeopardy!, we will have no returning champion. |

#SexyScience. Ron leads with 900 to Rich's 600 & Adam's 500.
Let's go right into the second act
