In Game 1, Ken Jennings matched to eke out James Holzhauer and utterly decimate Brad Rutter.  Ken needs two more match wins to win a million bucks and be deemed JEOPARDY!'s GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!

MATCH 2
GAME 1
JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES: "THE CROWN", CHARITIES, LITERALLY STUPID ANSWERS, SHORT STORY SYLLABUS, COLLEGE FOOTBALL: AFTER THE GAME, THE "GOLD" "BERG"S (either starts with "GOLD" or ends in "BERG")

James finds his first DAILY DOUBLE early under SHORT STORY for 800.  He bets 1000, though he has but 600: W.W. Jacobs came up with pretty much the opposite of a lucky rabbit's foot with this story of a dad, a son & 3 wishes gone bad.  James immediately says "What is 'The Monkey's Paw'?" and is right.  Then James starts doing what James does and pulls ahead...WAY ahead!

SCORES AFTER J! ROUND: JAMES: 9600|KEN: 3200|BRAD: 1200
----------------------------------
DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES: CLASSIC MOVIE QUOTES, NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES, ART & ARTISTS, AROUND THE WORLD, THE GREATEST OF ALL MINDS, TAKE AN "IQ" TEST

James finds the DD AROUND THE WORLD for 2000 and goes TDD (13600), doing his "trademark" "all-in" move: This second-largest port of France once had a longer name that included "de grace".  With a LITTLE hesitation, James says, "What is Le Havre?" and doubles his score.

Soon after, Ken goes TDD (8400) in MINDS for 2000...LIKEWISE doing the "all-in" move (which James allows just once): This German developed calculus independent of another wise guy.  Ken says "Who was Leibnitz?"...and he's right, doubling to 16,800!

SCORES AFTER DJ! ROUND: JAMES: 32400|KEN: 22000|BRAD: 7200
----------------------------------
FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY: INFLUENTIAL WRITING

ANSWER: Its second line is "All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope & Czar, Metternich & Guizot..."

CORRECT QUESTION: What is the Communist Manifesto?

Brad wrote "What is the Communist Manifesto?" (7200)
James wrote "What is the Communist Manifesto?" (with hammer and sickle on the side)" (18000)
Ken wrote "What is the Communist Manifesto?" (11914)

SCORES AFTER GAME 1: JAMES: 44314|KEN: 40000|BRAD: 14400
==================================
GAME 2
JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES: MOZART (from his birthplace in Salzburg), THE ____ OF ____. THIS WILL TIE YOUR ROOM TOGEHTER, THEY'RE BACK!, NAME THE DECADE, GOATS

Brad finds the DD under DECADE for 1000 and goes for 1000 (though 800 is all he has): The Tudor line begins its 5-monarch rule of England.  Brad doesn't hesitate to say, "What is the 1480s?" and getting up to 1800.

SCORES AFTER J! ROUND: JAMES: 6400|KEN: 6800|BRAD: 3800
----------------------------------
DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES: I JUST TOOK A DNA TEST, POP CULTURE PEOPLE, "AUDIBLE" (audio book site), "G"EOGRAPHY, 20-LETTER WORDS, GOATS (GREATEST OF ALL TIME)

For the third time, Brad finds the DD immediately under DNA for 1600 and tries another TDD (3800): You can learn your ethnicity usa DNA in your autosomes, non-sex chromosomes; most people have this many sets of autosomes.  Brad ponders...and then says, "What is...2?"  But it's 22.  Down to zero AGAIN.

James soon finds the other DD in "G"EOGRAPHY for 1600.  He TDDs (8400) for this clue: Rhino tracking at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve is something to try on a visit to this capital city.  James actually thinks before saying, "What is Gaborone?"  The capital of Botswana bumps him to 16,800....but Ken would close in during the rest of the game...and Brad would sink into the red.

SCORES AFTER DJ! ROUND: JAMES: 22800|KEN: 21200|BRAD: -3600
----------------------------------
FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY: 19TH CENTURY LEADERS

ANSWER: Tall, lanky Joel Barlow was an ambassador carrying messages between these 2 world leaders, both mocked for being short.
CORRECT QUESTION: Who were Napoleon Bonaparte and James Madison?

Ken wrote "Who were Napoleon and Monroe?" (3800)
James wrote "Who were Napoleon and Madison?" (15300)
FINAL MATCH 2 SCORES: JAMES: 82414|KEN: 57400|BRAD: 14400

James Holzhauer evens up the tournament with Ken Jennings at one-apiece.  Can Brad Rutter FINALLY catch up with the two longest winning streaks?  Tune in tomorrow!

Last week, episode 4 ended with the new player Alex Lake entering the Circle as "Adam", a hotter version of himself. He joins original players Sammie, Joey, Seaburn aka "Rebecca", Karyn aka "Mercedeze", and Shubham as well as new entry Miranda. The following recap summarizes events between episodes 4 & 8.

Adam is given the opportunity to go on a dinner date with one player after speaking to three of his choosing - Mercedeze, Rebecca, and Sammie. He picks Rebecca, sending "her" a giant teddy bear beforehand. So we have two fake people going on a fake date with each other. Awkward...

APP #5: HASHTAG THIS - After posting a new photo to your profile, you will get to give a hashtag to match with the others' new photos.

RATINGS #3: Because Adam is new, he could neither rate nor be rated.
- 7th: Mercedeze
- 6th: Miranda
- Tied for 4th: Chris, Joey
- 3rd: Rebecca
- INFLUENCERS: Sammie (1st), Shubham (2nd)

HANGOUT #3: This is the second time for both Influencers. Again, as Adam is new, he cannot be Blocked.
- BLOCKED: Mercedeze, who reveals herself to be Karyn from the Bronx... first to Chris, then to everyone else.

HERE COMES TWO NEW CHALLENGERS!
- Bill Cranley: 27; Chicago; playing the game as himself.
- Sean Taylor: 25; New York City; playing the game as herself... but skinnier and single and not exactly herself.

APP #6: TRIVIA NIGHT - In two teams - captained by the new entries - you've simply got to answer questions. Team with the most right wins video messages from home.
- TEAM BILL: Chris, Rebecca, Shubham
- TEAM SEAN: Sammie, Joey, Adam, Miranda
WINNERS: TEAM SEAN

RATINGS #4: Again, because Bill and Sean are new, they can neither rate nor be rated. The upshot is that they can't be blocked either.
- 7th: Miranda
- 6th: Adam
- Tied for 4th: Chris, Sammie
- 3rd: Rebecca
- INFLUENCERS: Joey (1st), Shubham (2nd)

HANGOUT #4: This round, Joey & Shubham are allowed to save two people each. The last one remaining would automatically be blocked.
- SAVED: Sammie, Rebecca, Chris, Adam
- BLOCKED: Miranda. She decides to visit Joey, where they share a kiss after getting to know each other through The Circle for so long.

Overnight, a new challenger enters! Or should we say, TWO new challengers enter!
- Ed & Tammy Eason: 23 & 52, Conshohocken, PA; a mother/son duo playing as "Ed", a 25-year-old male.

APP #7: PORTRAIT MODE - You have 30 minutes using your art supplies and a photo of one player to paint said player however you wished. The portraits would then be shared within the Circle.

Sean starts to feel bad about using other people's photos, so after talking with Chris, Sammie & Rebecca (who ironically isn't using any of HIS either), she decides to share a photo of herself. What will be the effect, and who will win the Circle? Find out next week!

JEOPARDY! ROUND: 1995, Business & Industry, TV Homes & Addresses, "B"easts, Give Us the Imperative Verb!, Udderly Milk--Or Not

Lisa starts with $200 "B"easts. At the TV timeout, Rachel leads with $3400 to $2400. Lisa has $1000.

Shaun finds the Daily Double under $800 TV Homes & Addresses. After he stops making a big deal about it, he goes for a small $400 on this: a lot of this sitcom took place in apartment 5A at 129 West 81st Street in Manhattan; the neighbor from 5B was a regular. "What is 'Seinfeld'?" Should've bet more, here's your $5000. He ends with that much to $6200 for Lisa. Rachel, on $3000, gets to go first in ...

DOUBLE JEOPARDY!: Quoting Poets; Another Year, Another Dollar; River Islands, A Sparkling Category, Film Composers, Jeopardy! In 2-D

... with $400 A Sparkling Category. Shaun finds the first Daily Double under $1600 River Islands. He bets $1500 on this: this island of more than 1.5 million people is near the confluence of the Ottawa River & St. Lawrence River. "What is Montreal?" That's right... but he blanks, so he drops to $5500. Lisa finds the other under $2000 Jeopardy! In 2-D. She wagers the level on this: this ancient priestly class had mostly died out by the 400s because most Celts had become Christians. "What are the druids?" RIGHT for $10,200! She ends up with $13,800. With Rachel on $4200 to $2300 for Shaun, it was the champ's game to lose.

FINAL JEOPARDY! in "European History": it took the French army until 1995 to declare him innocent, 101 years after he was convicted of treason. Correct response: who was Alfred Dreyfus?

Shaun is right, but he wagers nothing. Lisa wins another $9800 to go to $24,500 for two.
