Is It Cake? Halloween Premiere
by Chico Alexander
@DinoRAlexander
Netflix:Season 1 available
Host: Mikey Day
 |
| |
Anything can happen on Halloween… even hyper-realistic cake. We begin as we always do with nine intrepid bakers. The winning baker of each of the first three episodes will advance to the finale, where one of them will win AT LEAST $25,000. If you’re NOT the winning baker… you’ll be eliminated.
FIND THAT CAKE: You’ll see six items in the picture frames – Flowers, a bust, a creepy doll, a clown mask, a ventriloquist’s dummy, and a raven. One is cake. You have 30 seconds to find it. Only the first three will compete.
- CORRECT: Ventriloquist dummy. So these three will compete, and the others are safe… for now.
Paul Bailey
Ottawa |
Regina Walker
Bakersfield, CA |
Annabel de Vetten
Burbank, CA (orig. Germany) |
IS IT CAKE?: Because Paul was the fastest to find the cake, he will get to choose which item he wants to cake-ify. You have 8 hours to create your cake.
- Paul: RAVEN – Peanut Butter Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream, Raspberry Compote & Nuts
- Regina: CLOWN – Butter Pound Cake with Caramel Frosting & Chocolate Ganache
- Annabel: VICTORIAN DOLL – Dark Chocolate Cake with Spiced Orange & Chili Buttercream and Candied Jalapeños
On the panel for this episode, actor/comedian Pete Holmes (“I’m Not For Everyone”), actor/comedian Chelsea Peretti (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), and actor Ravi V. Patel (“Animal Control”). They have 20 seconds to find the cake. If they’re fooled, the cake will be submitted for judgment. Best cake wins a spot in the finale.
- Paul’s RAVEN: The judges think it’s #4… NO! Paul’s in play! The cake was #2.
- Regina’s CLOWN: The judges go with #1… They’re right. Regina’s out.
- Annabel’s VICTORIAN DOLL: The judges lock in #1… Nailed it.
And that gives Paul the win by default!
CAKE OR CASH? We have nine jack-o’lanterns. Three of those are cake. One is worth $2000, Two $5000, and all three are worth $10,000! You have 30 seconds to find all three cakes. A pro-tip: There is one cake in each row.
- ROW 1: 1 or 2? Paul locks in #1.
- ROW 2: 3, 4, or 5? Paul locks in #5.
- ROW 3: 6, 7, 8, or 9? Paul locks in #8
CAKES: #1, #3, and #9 for $2000.
Season 1 of “Is It Cake? Halloween” is available in its entirety on Netflix. Another recap follows next week. |

Last week, teams got derailed en route to Prague, but Jas & Jag were the first to check-in for the second leg in a row. Angela & Lexi were the last to check-in, and they had to “Czech” out. Now we’re down to the final 11 teams.
PIT STOP –ZOFIN PALACE, PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Jas & Jag, who were the first to arrive at 5:14p, will depart at 5:14a.
ROUTE INFO :DRIVE TO KUTNÁ HORA!
- Drive yourselves to Kutná Hora Municipal Brewery and search the grounds for your next clue.
Not wanting to take any risks, Jas & Jag decide to team up with Joseph & Adam and Natalie & Stephanie.
KUTNÁ HORA, CZECH REPUBLIC
Eventually, the teams would arrive, two hours before opening, at…
ROADBLOCK: WHO’S FEELING TAPPED OUT?
- One teammate must fill an entire crate with bottles of beer before receiving your next clue.
But there’s a twist…
✇ DRIVER’S SEAT
- The first team to arrive at a designated board will determine how much work the remaining teams have to do at the succeeding task.
In this Driver’s Seat, the first team to arrive will designate which teams must fill one, two, or three crates of beer. So we’re basically determining how long you are to stay at the Roadblock until its completion.
Natalie & Stephanie are the first to arrive at the Driver’s Seat and assign the task thusly…
- 1 CRATE: Hannah/Simone, Izzy/Paige
- 2 CRATES: Kat/Alex, Kristine/Rubina, Kyland/Taylor, Megan/Matt, Natalie/Stephanie
- 3 CRATES: Jack/Chelsie, Jas/Jag, Joseph/Adam, Tucker/Eric
Jas & Jag were the first to finish and their very demure, very mindful approach gets them…
ROUTE INFO: DRIVE TO NOVÉ DVORY!
- Drive to Nové Dvory and find your next clue at Kostel sv. Anny.
Once you’ve arrived at Kostel sv. Anny, you’ll have to find your clue in a field using a plow called a ruchadio. Some teams got lost on the way where, while some finished the classic plow-the-field-until-something-happens challenge easily.
ROUTE INFO: DRIVE TO ZINMÍ STADION KUTNÁ HORA!
- Drive to Zinmí Stadion Kutná Hora and search the stadium grounds for your next clue.
Once we’re done at the field, we hit the ice. Sort of like life.
ROADBLOCK: WHO WANTS TO LIGHT THE LAMP?
- One teammate, regardless of who performed the first Roadblock, must don ice hockey equipment and score a goal through one of five holes in a cutout in order to receive your next clue.
Once the lamp is lit, teams received a coin. That coin… features the Pit Stop for this leg of the Race, the Kacina Château in Svatý Mikulás. As always, the last team to check-in WILL BE ELIMINATED!
Jas & Jag are in front, HOWEVER, they decide, as an act of goodwill, and because it’s Natalie’s birthday, to travel in a pack together and allow the latter team to pass them to check in first.
“Natalie & Stephanie… you are TEAM #1!” With that win, they get a hell of a birthday present, $2500. Jas & Jag then officially check in at #2.
While teams are starting to check in, other teams are … starting to fill beer crates?!
LEADERBOARD after LEG 3
- WINNERS: Natalie/Stephanie - $2500
- 2nd: Jas/Jag - $2500, Sri Lanka
- 3rd: Tucker/Eric
- 4th: Joseph/Adam
- 5th: Hannah/Simone
- 6th: Izzy/Paige
- 7th: Kristine/Rubina
Kat & Alex start plowing as Megan & Matt are finishing with beer.
- 8th: Jack/Chelsie
- 9th: Taylor/Kyland
- 10th: Kat/Alex
A wrong turn turns into max pain for Megan & Matt, who arrive at the plows in time to … meet Phil, who officially eliminates them before they’re allowed to finish, the other teams having already checked in. |

The Challenge: Vets & New Threats
by Chico Alexander

MTV/Paramount+: 8p/7c
Host: TJ Lavin
    |
| |
Last week, some fast thinking led to CT & Tay meeting Theo & Adrienne in the Arena, where they defied the house and eliminated CT & Tay.
CHALLENGE: Band Together – Each team has a large pipe on a wooden beam. Race to a hill and college various items with resistance bands attached to them, and use the bands to secure one end of the pipe to the structure. The heavier items have greater resistance. Once you’ve secured the structure with enough support, one team member must walk across the pipe without falling to retrieve a flag at the other end. First team to finish wins, while last place will be sent to the Arena.
- WINNERS: Dee/Derrick K.
LAST PLACE: Aviv/Yeremi
Before the Arena, TJ gives players the opportunity to Stake a Claim in a partner. How?
CLAIM CHALLENGE: Run up a mountain and solve a three-dimensional puzzle before returning to the start. The first contestant to finish wins. The loser will be sent to the Arena.
- Gabe vs. Justin. WINNER: JUSTIN. Having won the challenge, he locked in his partner Nany for the rest of the season.
ARENA: Pull It Together – One must climb up a cargo net to remove dozens of pegs form a climbing wall. Their partner must then place all the pegs into slots on the other side of the wall, climb to the top, and buzz in. First team to finish wins.
- ELIMINATED: Gabe/Jonna |

Last week, core four alliances have started to spring up – Jake, Alex, Sophi & Jeremiah at Kele, who voted off Annie.
Hina has decided to search as a group for the Beware Advantage. After a split, MC finds it and shares with Steven. Her vote was temporarily lost until Hina loses an Immunity Challenge.
At Uli, Jawan and Sage were left out of their core four, as Sage attempts to bond with Shannon over Savannah’s closeness to Rizo.
Back at Kele, Jake announced that he was bitten by a potentially poisonous snake while sitting by the water, which prompted an appearance by the Medical Tribe. During the exam, Alex identifies the snake as a “black and white banded sea krait” that should be avoided at all costs. The Medical Tribe assessed that the bite was “a dry bite”, a warning bite without venom. However, Jake would have to be removed immediately from the game and monitored to ensure his continued stability.
Before the next challenge, Jeff explains what happened to Jake – he was bitten by a sea krait whose venom is reportedly 10 times as venomous as a rattlesnake and evaculated from the game.
IMMUNITY CHALLENGE: Sea of Love – Puzzle pieces must be collected from an obstacle course. Once all the pieces are collected, they must be put together in order to win Immunity and comfort supplies for camp.
- ULI: Nate, Sage, Savannah
- HINA: Kristina, Steven, Jason
- KELE: … the remains of the tribe
WINNERS: Hina (1st), Uli (2nd)
This is the first time in the “new era” of Survivor that a tribe would ultimate come down to two. Sophi & Jeremiah agreed that they were the closest and that it would be a “good comeback story” to knock out the guy with the Idol in his pocket. Alex, on the other hand, would be the most likely to vote for Sophi, prompting her to double down on Alex’s name on the parchment.
Uli then decided to look for an Idol as a group… and Rizo finally found the Beware advantage, which he declared was for “all of us”.
TRIBAL COUNCIL #3: Jake appeared to be the leader of the tribe as far as votes were concerned. Alex thought that everyone had “honest conversations about the game”, leaving Jeff with the impression that Alex may play his Idol. That being said… he DID play his Idol, so all votes for him will be nullified.
- Jeremiah: ALEX
- Alex: JEREMIAH
- Sophi: …. JEREMIAH
Looks like Jeremiah got GOT. With two votes, THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN. |
