Their occupations range from
stay-at-home parents to ace attorneys.
They span both coasts of two countries.
They are young and young-at-heart alike.
And they have one thing in common: over the last
calendar year, they've shown America that they all know
how to play "Jeopardy!" very, very well and have earned
a ticket to the most prestigious of all game show
tournaments.
On November 9 through November 20, though, the 15
players - nine men, four women - will compete against
each other to see who will be the best of the best in
this year's Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions. The
winner will receive $250,000 and join the ranks of
previous ToC winners in quiz immortality.
First runner-up will win an additional $100,000, while
second runner-up will pocket $50,000. All semifinalists
- the five preliminary match winners and four wild-card
qualifiers who scored the highest amongst non-winners -
will get $10,000, while everyone is guaranteed $5000 for
their participation.
As always, any money won
depends on how high up the ladder a player goes.
Catherine Hardee has the
first seat on semifinals row. One of these players will
join her...

Daily Double #1: $2000
Nicknames for Feminists. Kristin's got some ground
to cover with $3800. Greg's in the lead with $11,000
to Brennan's $5600. She only bets $200 on this: on
this woman's 1848 statement demanding the vote,
Lucretia Mott said, "Lizzie, thee will make us
ridiculous." "Who is Stanton?" Elizabeth Cady
Stanton puts her at $4000.
Daily Double #2: $1600 Holidays &
Observances. Kristin's got a look of utter horror on her face with $5200 to
$5600 for Brennan. Can take second place, but can't take over Greg's $11,000.
She's putting up $2000 on this: it became an official French holiday in 1880, 91
years after the event that inspired it. "What is Bastille Day?" Boom, $7200.
