Quarterfinals: Ingram/Rider/Pearson
November 10
They were the smartest... fiercest... most competitive... most talked about class of Tournament of Champions in Jeopardy! history. Now they come together for another two-week event. The winner gets $250,000, bragging rights, and the title of Jeopardy! super champion, a title that comes with it quiz immortality.

Second runner up gets $100,000. Third place gets $50,000. Semifinalists win $10,000. Everyone is guaranteed $5000 for their participation. As always, any money won depends on how high up the ladder a player goes.

We begin, as always... with Game 1.

Daily Double: $800 A Little Alliteration. Ben finds it with $1800 to Rebecca's $1600 & John's $1200. He bets it all on this: "Put the ship of state on its feet" & "play your cards to the hilt" are 2 of these expressions. "What are figures of speech?" No, they are mixed metaphors, leaving him with nothing.

Daily Double #1: $1600 They Turned My Book Into a Movie. John has $2000 to Rebecca's $3800, but this round has belonged to Ben with $10,000. He's going for it on this: "Apocalypse Now". "Who is Kubrick?" No, it was Joseph Conrad, based on "Heart of Darkness", leaving him with nothing.

Daily Double #2: $1600 What Kind of Animal Are You? Ben is in front by a wide margin, $11,600 to Rebecca's $3800 & John's $1200. He fronts just a bill on this: Grete Waitz served as one of these pacesetters in her first New York City Marathon; she won the race & set a world record. "What's a rabbit?" RIGHT for $11,700!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

Ben Rebecca John

Not a runaway, but if you consider that you're playing for next week, this game is all but decided.

Final Jeopardy! category: STATE HOLIDAYS

THIS IS THE ONLY STATE THAT HONORS A FORMER US SECRETARY OF STATE WITH HIS OWN LEGAL HOLIDAY

Correct response: what is Alaska? (William Seward)

Rebecca's response: what is Alaska? RIGHT. Wager: $5000. Total: $11,600.
John's response: what is Maine? WRONG. Wager: $8400. Total: $0.
Ben's response: what is Alaska? RIGHT. Wager doesn't matter.

SEMI-FINALIST: Ben Ingram

A little weak on the buzzer to start, but came back strong and poured on the pressure during the Double Jeopardy! round to make this almost a decided match. He'll be back, and we may see Rebecca - who won second place on a stone guess - as well.

But the tournament is still young. Come back tomorrow to see what happens with three more players.
