Week 1: The 10th
Commandment: Thou Shalt Dance... Because I Said So!
March 16 |
In 2005, ABC came up with a
British import to drive ratings up the wall. They took
well-known celebrities, added in dance professionals and
ended up in a studio ballroom larger than life. They
learned the basics of ballroom dancing to impress the
judges, but more important, the home viewers themselves.
That idea: Dancing With The Stars. Here we are 10 years
later, and it's season 20. A new generation of dance
pros, stars and veteran pros who know how to do it.
Let's introduce the roster for this fantastic season.
STARS
Rumer Willis (Actress; daughter of Bruce Willis)
Michael Sam (NFL star)
Chris Soules (The Bachelor)
Suzanne Somers (Three's Company)
Redfoo (LMFAO)
Willow Shields (The Hunger Games; youngest celebrity to
be on the show since Zendaya)
Nastia Lukin (olympic gymnast)
Charlotte McKinney (Viral sensation)
Riker Lynch (R5)
Patti Labelle (R&B legend)
Robert Herjavich (Shark Tank)
Noah Gallaway (personal trainer & former soldier)
DANCE PROS
Sharna Burgess (Noah's partner)
Kym Johnson (2x champion; Robert's partner)
Artem Chigvintsev (Patti's partner)
Derek Hough (most decorated DWTS champion; Emmy award
winner; Nastia's partner)
Allison Holker (Riker's partner)
Keoikantse Motsepe (Charlotte's partner)
Emma Slater (Redfoo's partner)
Peta Murgatroyd (1x champion; Michael's partner)
Mark Ballas (2x champion; Willow's partner)
Tony Dovolani (1x champion; Suzanne's partner)
Witney Carson (Last season's champion; Chris' partner)
Val Chmierkovskiy (Rumer's partner)
It looks like a decent lineup. Let's hope nothing bad
happens. Season 20....is a go.
Tonight, a trio of dances occur. They are the foxtrot,
cha-cha or jive. Starting things off, Willow & Mark
doing a cha-cha to "Lips Are Movin'" by Meghan Trainor.
Willow started it off with a split and both did arm work
later. Both bowed near the end. Since there are 4 judges
like it was last season, we shall skip to the scoring:
Willow & Mark's Score: 25
Up next, Robert & Kym doing a cha-cha to "Bills" by
Lunchmoney Lewis. Robert left the Shark Tank panel who
the rest of them were actually played by the DWTS troupe
returining this season, and went down to dance. Kym was
hanging on to the money until they threw away their
jackets. Kym had a high kick and it was raining fake
money on teh dance floor. By the end, Kym went through
Robert and both sat on the chair where he was sitting at
teh start. Let's write the score check:
Robert & Kym's score: 28
Next, Riker & Allison doing a jive to "What I like About
You" by The Romantics. Riker crowdsurfed to a small
platform area and joined Allison. Riker later did a
cartwheel to lay down on the floor Allison had to go
through. Let's bust through the scoreboard:
Riker & Allison's score: 31
Charlotte & Keo will now dance a jive to "Shake A Tail
Feather" by The Blues Brothers. Charlotte was having fun
with her feather thingies and went to Keo to assist.
Near the end, Charlotte did a split. Now we
lickety-split to the scores.
Charlotte & Keo's score: 22
Patti & Artem will be up doing a foxtrot to "Lady
Marmalade" by Labelle. Patti stepped off a very small
platform and near the end, Patti fake pushed him off to
do a solo. All you need is a scoreboard:
Patti & Artem's score: 25
Next will be Chris & Witney doing a jive to "Footloose"
by Kenny Loggins. Chris got out of the truck and Witney
did a split. Both pretended to grease their hair and
both hopped on to the bed of the truck to look at the
overhead camera by the end. Let's look at the scores:
Chris & Witney's score: 26
Now it's Michael & Peta doing "Uptown Funk" by Mark
Ronson w/Bruno Mars, which believe it or not was
recorded in my hometown of Memphis. Who knew? Getting
closer to the end, Allison did a split and Michael
raised his fist in the air. Raise the scoreboard, guys!
Michael & Peta's Score: 26
Next to dance is Nastia & Derek doing a cha-cha to "New
York New York" by Ray Quinn w/Ultra Love. It felt classy
with the blue curtain, but it was black & white for the
rest of the screen. The curtain was raised and brought
to full color for the rest of the routine. With the
brass section behind them, they continued the routine
like normal. Here come the scoreboard:
Nastia & Derek's score: 30
Moving on, Redfoo & Emma doing a cha-cha to "Juicy
Wiggle" by redfoo himself. Redfoo was on top of a table
and went down safely by the girls of the troupe and
Emma. Halfway through, the men of the troupe were on top
of the table with blocks over their heads. By the end,
streamers came through. Minecrafting the scores:
Redfoo & Emma's score: 22
Next is Noah & Sharna dancing a cha-cha to "I Lived" by
Onerepublic. Noah, like Amy Purdy is prostetic with one
leg and has only one arm. Let's see how he does to his
adventage this season. Both held hands after looking at
the overhead camera and Noah helped Sharna do
twirls.....all with one arm. Wow. And teh scores say:
Noah & Sharna's score: 26
Suzanne & Tony are here to do a cha-cha to "Physical" by
Olivia Newton-John. I'm guessing it felt like an 80's
aerobic class with Tony leading but the troupe and
Suzanne used their thighmasters.........okay and both
Suzanne & Tony went to the floor. Both blew a kiss to
the judging panel and there was more. Send the numbers
in....
Suzanne & Tony's score: 25
Batting cleanup, Rumer & Val doing a foxtrot to "Take Me
To Church" by Hozier. Feeling like an old church
setting, They put the elegance in this dance. Let's take
it to the scoreboard:
Rumer & Val's score: 32
Our top 3 teams of the week, Rumer, Riker & Nastia.
Everybody gets a free pass, but next week, it's on.
Somebody here has got to go. You'll find out in 7. Bye
everyone!
