As Chico is cruising, I will taking
over your Jeopardy recaps for this week.
(J-Note: Fav Category: Flight of the Concordes.)
Geoff Moore took down 4 day champ Ben Bishop yesterday. He is
coming back with a one-day total of $18,001.
Geoff Moore
Los Angeles
screenwriter
$18,001 |
Lydia Haile Fassett
Providence, RI
Latin teacher |
Rich Shreker
Olmstead, OH
recording specialist |
Geoff starts with $200 College
Athletics. At the TV time out, Geoff runs the Foreign States
Category and leads with $5,600, Rich has $2,200 and Lydia has
$200.
Lydia finds the Daily Double under $1000 New Words in the OED
(Oxford English Dictionary). It was the last clue in the round.
She has $3,200 and makes it a true Daily Double on this: "Punning
on an older word, it's the refusal to buy a certain product, but
done by women only." She correctly doubles her money to $6,400
with "Girlcott". Geoff has $10,200 and Rich will start Double
Jeopardy with his $3,000....
... with $400 Spot the Misspelled Word. Geoff finds the first
Daily Double under $1200 From The Neck Up. It's a Video and he
bets $2,200 of his $17,800 on this given by Jimmy: "Because the
first cervical vertebrae supports the head, it's called this--like
a certain mythical Titan." He misses Atlas and has $15,600. Geoff
finds the other as well under $2,000 Flight of the Concordes. He
risks only $800 of his $20,800 on this clue: "4 Olympus 493
Turbojet engines from this British Auto Company powered each
Concorde." Geoff adds $800 with "Rolls Royce". He has $21,600. At
the end, it's Geoff's game to lose as he has $23,600. Lydia has
$4,800. Rich has $2,200
Of course, it depends on the bet and on this Final Jeopardy!
(ding!) "American Literary Sites". The answer is: In the 20th
Century, it became a popular recreation site with crowds of
25,000; its most famous visitor might disapprove. (We see a
picture). The question: What is Walden Pond? (From Ralph W.
Emerson)
Rich answers incorrectly. He loses $2,200 to make $2,000.
Lydia answers correctly. She adds $300 and her total is $5,100.
And Geoff answers correctly (he just said Walden) and bets
$13,600. He wins with $37,200.
Geoff goes for the threepeat tomorrow with $55,201 in cash. Find
out what happens tomorrow right here on the Jeopardy recap. |

Gina Dobbins, Eva Scott, John Bailie,
and Jessica Nielblas start the Tuesday party with golf clubs.
$1345 is the asking price, as John goes for a motorscooter, an
accordion, and an ab machine in Eazy as 1-2-3. He goes 3-2-1. Ab
machine is $1395. The accordion is $1995. Looks good. The
motorscooter... $2499! That wins!
Nicole Bamber goes down and up thanks
to a $900 GPS. Now she can get $25,000 in the Punchboard. She gets
dings from a $50 beverage buggy, a $40 minigrill, a $150 air
sanitizer, and a $30 shower MP3 dealie. From that, she punches
$1000... gives it up for $250... gives THAT up for $100... and
gives it up for $500.
Eva gets a $1499 wine bar and a
shot at a Pontiac Vibe in Balance Game. The bags: 695, 7000, 8000,
and 9000. We toss out the 8000 for $16,695... Too light. She
needed that AND the 9000.
Top winner of the half John takes
the Showdown. Gina bids $999 on a $999 porch swing. You know what
that means. Not only does she gets a chance at a catamaran, she
does do with $500 in her pocket. The price is NOT $7957. She flips
in Flip Flop, but it would've helped to flop as well.
Elsebeth Anderson gets a $1324
dinnerware set and a shot at a Chrysler PT Cruiser in Pocket
Change. The $17,435 car is going to cost her $1.25. She's got a
quarter, a quarter, a nickel... 50 cents.... and $2! That'll do
it!
Jessica needs to get on this
luggage. Actual price: $920. Winner... Jessica! Can she win the
trip to Singapore in Bullseye? Not outright, but given a Spike
Santa Fe salsa, a Little Debbie Honey Buns, and a Pine-Sol
cleaner, the hidden Bullseye... was SAUCY! That's another win!
Jessica spins Big Purple and ends
up with big green, $1000. Let's play the Showcases. First, Rachel
and Tamiko's favorite days involve a sleeper sofa, a trip to
Orlando, and a Chevrolet Impala. Top winner Jessica passes, and
John bids $23,300. Jessica gets a game room with Dale Jr. pinball,
a shaved ice cart & UltraPin pinball, as well as a Gemcar. She
bids $16,200. Actual price: $25,108, a difference of $8908. Actual
price of John's Showcase... $26,926, a game-winning difference of
$3626. His total take: $34,160! |

Tracy Bielaczyc (Traverse City, MI), an insurance agent, goes into this episode with $25,000 and 1 lifeline available.
[$50,000] (Riding the Rails)
Rising to altitudes of over 16,000 feet, the world's highest operating railroad is located in what country?
A: Russia
B: Pakistan
C: China
D: Chile
Tracy asks the expert, Pat Kiernan, and though there's some high altitude in D, he's not sure. Since it is a free guess, though, Tracy goes with D... but it's C! Well, at least she still has $25,000!
Tom Philipose (Forest Hills, NY) - College professor
Menu:
Lower - Pen Pals, A Little Wordy, The Old West, 2008 Films, Bamboozled!
Middle - Monster Trucks, On the Menu, NFL Quarterbacks, The Big Lebowski, Personal Finance
Upper - Made in America, Explorers, Fictional Families, Down Under, Pet Projects
Tom breezes through the lower tier, as well as most of the middle tier, before reaching this...
[$25,000] (Personal Finance)
Used by lenders to set credit limits and mortgage rates, a FICO score is a number that falls within what range?
A: 1 and 100
B: 100 and 500
C: 300 and 850
D: 1000 and 2500
Tom asks the audience, and an overwhelming 86% are saying C. Tom trusts them... and he has $25,000!
[$50,000] (Made in America)
Madam C.J. Walker, an early 20th-century businesswoman and the first black female millionaire, made her fortune selling what?
A: Bibles
B: Packaged food
C: Baby clothes
D: Hair care products
Tom decides to ask the expert, but again, Pat is not sure. Tom then calls his brother, Joe, and he is about 75-80% sure that it's beauty products (by which he probably meant D). So, Tom locks in D... and he's right!
[$100,000] (Explorers)
The space shuttle Endeavour is named after a ship commanded by what historic explorer?
A: Vasco da Gama
B: Ferdinand Magellan
C: James Cook
D: Francis Drake
Though he does try to narrow it down, Tom is unable to come up with an idea before time runs out. After seeing that it's C, Tom leaves with $50,000 to end this show! |
