I love it when we get interrupted by an announcement telling us how much our economy sucks. When the smoke clears, we see Geri Mantuka, who's been married for almost 40 years. She's a 4 year retiree with 4 kids and 5 grandkids, she exchanges her case of #4 for #19, and she opens up $25,000, $50,000, #9 (Rebecca) - $5, #14 (Michelle) - $300, and #13 (Rosa) - $500. She wants the banker to make her day, but this probably won't: $17,500. Not enough for shopping, so NO DEAL! 5 more cases to open.

And we open #6 (Raffi) - $100,000. #22 (Todd) - $500,000, #7 (Kristine) - $1,000. #10 (Amy) -$25. #12 (Bobbie) - $10. She's going to get a shopping discount, because she hit 2 of the top 3: $500. It's a $500 certificate to..NO DEAL! 4 more cases to open.

We open them with #3 (JC) - $1. #15 (Nancy) - $200. #5 (Cindy) - $250,000. Waa waaaaa. #8 (Jonathan) - $400. Only one big case left - and then a big drop.

PENNY, $50, $100, $2,500, $5,000, $7,500, $10,000, $75,000. OFFER: $4,000. No reason to deal now. NO DEAL! 2 to open. Avoid the $75,000 Bandit.

#1 (Shaundal) - $75,000. It's the Bandit! And we start garbage time way early this game. #21 (Freda) - $2,500

PENNY, $50, $100, $5,000, $7,500, $10,000. OFFER: $2,500. It's a draw board and we have time to kill before the end of the show, so...NO DEAL! 2 more cases to open.

#11 (Dan) - $10,000. That opening offer of $17,500 is looking really good at this point. #17 (Jeremy) - $5,000. There's really no safety net for the 5 or so people still enthralled in this episode.

PENNY, $50, $100, $7,500. OFFER: $1,300. All of the contestants left say No Deal because they think they have the penny (or they want to see Geri walk off with the penny). NO DEAL! At least avoid the $7,500 so we have some semblance of a show.

#2 (Mariana) - $7,500. Mariana owes Geri $1,200

PENNY, $50, $100. OFFER: $40. Geri wants to take the $40. The audience talks her out of it. NO DEAL.

#20 (Cheryl) - $50

PENNY, $100. FINAL OFFER: $55. NOW the audience wants her to go all the way to see if she's leaving with a penny. She wants nothing to do with that. DEAL for $55, as she avoids being the worst player in Syndie DOND history. Inside her case...$100. Her old case of #4 had the penny, which isn't much consolation to her as she leaves with $55. But at least she can shop for a high-quality crying towel - and she made the Banker's day.

Nightcap! Nita and Larry Sherman have #18, which signifies the 18 months that they've been married. They met at an Armenian picnic, and Larry (salesperson) and Nita (homemaker) want to go to Italy. They go all the way to 2 cases, and this is what they have left:

$50, $100,000

OFFER: $29,000, a sure trip to Italy. $100,000 gets a nice Italian sportscar. $50 is a delicious Italian Dinner. Larry says to go for it, but Nita says to take the deal, and since she's the person making the decision...DEAL for $29,000. Inside their case...$100,000! That's the second straight day that someone had the $100,000 case and sold it. But they still have $29,000 and will still have a nice time in Italy. Will we give out another second honeymoon tomorrow? Tune in and see...

Sampley (DeAnn, Michael, Jennifer, Kristen, Nick) Lundy (Daniel, Harold, Patrick, Marie, Clare)
$445

DeAnn is signing her intros because her deaf son is watching. Nice.

Round 1 (full board): an excuse people give to get out of jury duty. DeAnn gets #2, job. Daniel goes one better with sick. Prejudice and kids also make the survey before the question goes to the Sampleys. Will school steal it? Nope. 89 to the Lundys. Other answers: religious reason, death/funeral, can't read, didn't get notice.

Round 2 (5): something that gives a woman support. Harold fires with what Al Roker would call "lifts and separates" for #1. Friends and husbands are next. What about faith, though? Not there, Lundys go to 179. Other answers: pantyhose, girdle (Said!).

Double (full board): a beautiful actress who you'd be surprised to hear was ugly as a kid. Jennifer gets the big one, Angelina Jolie. Julia Roberts is right behind her. Lundys steal it with Halle Berry for 239. Other answers: Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Triple (4): fill in the blank, "a waste of..." Kristen gets top answer, time. Space and money follow. Lundys can sweep the Sampleys with a steal of... energy... WINNERS, 509-0.

Fast Money: Patrick & Harold get 201 in eight for $20,000, giving them a total of $20,445.

Won This Week: $8,000
Won this series: $68,500
Despite the economic garbage going on, I feel like a winner. Do you feel like a winner? These 3 people - Edwin, Cindy, and Mandi, feel like winners, because it's time for the Winner's Game! Mandi starts us off with a male character: adult / 2000's debut / comedy / dark hair / about home or family / Carson Daly changed his life / ex-wife named Joy / father named Carl / brother named Randy / petty crook / name in title / what goes around comes around...TIME. It was Earl Hickey (My Name is Earl), and Mandi can't get out of the box.

Mandi probably doesn't feel like a winner yet, but maybe Edwin will, if he gets a series: comedy / 1970's debut / actors play multiple roles / set at a work or job / set in a fictional town or city / Conrad Bain's twin brother appears...Different Strokes? Good guess, but wrong...Takes place in Melonville...SCTV? Yes, and Edwin grabs 34 seconds. he feels more winner-like.

Cindy can feel like a winner too, if she gets a female actor: starred in the 1980's / adult / starred in a drama / starred in a series in the past 5 years / starred in movies / on Another World...Anne Heche? No, and we continue...played Quinn Coleman / played a deputy chief / Set in LA / one degree from Kevin Bacon...TIME. It was Kyra Sedgewick and Cindy also gets no points. Well, we know who's leading now, don't we?

AFTER ROUND 1:
Cindy: -0:10 Mandi: -0:15 Edwin: 0:14

It's still pretty close, and Mandi gets to start again with a male character: Teen /1990's debut / drama / blonde highlights / involves home or family / intellectual...Doogie Howser? No...Dates Jen Lindley...Dawson Leery? Yes! And with 1:02 left on the clock, Mandi takes the lead.

Edwin is looking to grab the lead back with a female character: adult / debuted in the 1980's / drama / red hair / revolves around work of job / maiden name is Howard / doctor / takes place in the future / works with Worf / romantically linked with a co-worker / father named Paul / has a son named Wesley...he knows the last name is Crusher, but what's the first name?...show involves time travel / won an Emmy / was made into a feature film...TIME. It was BEVERLY Crusher, and that may have cost Edwin the game.

Cindy has one last shot to salvage her game, but must get a series with at least 1:08 left on the clock. Comedy / 1990's debut / characters name in the title / main characters are divorced / revolves around work or job / show had many cast changes / publicist / Ted Danson guest stars...TIME. Cindy can't get out of either the box or Veronica's Closet, so Mandi wins!

FINAL:
Cindy: -0:35 Mandi: 0:22 Edwin: -0:01

Can Mandi win any more money and have a shot at the Winner's Tournament? Maybe...with a male actor: 1980's series / adult / drama / more than 1 series / series in the last 5 years / commands authority / army officer / U.S. President...Martin Sheen? No, and that's guess #1...character is assassinated / character's brother becomes president...Martin Sheen? Still not Martin Sheen, and 1 more guess left...films Al Qaeda / plays Theodore Morris / Scott Foley is a co-star / Kiefer Sutherland is a co-star / stars in 24...TIME. It's Dennis Haysbert. She does win another $500 for a total of $1,000, and she may not feel like a winner, but she has $1,000 more than most of Wall Street. Join us tomorrow for 3 new players.

Can Todd pull out the hat trick tonight? He has been doing phenomenally well so far, but anything can and does happen.

Todd Covert
Valley Glen, CA

$58,402, two days
Kevin Finn
Ireland by way of Miami
university lecturer
Meredith Robbins

library media specialist

Everyone gets $200 At the Movies wrong. Todd starts AGAIN with $400. Meredith finds the Daily Double under $1000 the G-8. With nothing in front of her, she fronts $500 on the last country to join the G-8 in 1997. "What is... I have no idea." Russia. She's back in the hole by $500. She gets out of the hole with $2500 at the half, but with Todd ahead by $4900 and Kevin by $1100, she'll have first go in Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Cats & Dogs. Todd finds the first Daily Double under $1200 Geology. He bets $2000 on this from Jimmy. "Like the stuff that makes the Statue of Liberty green, the mineral malachite is a carbonate of this metal." "What is copper?" Correct for $12,200. He also has the other under $1200 Sorry, Sports Fans. $3000 says he can name the sole league of the big four that doesn't have a team in St. Louis. "What is the NBA?" Correct for $14,400. Todd builds up to $16,800, but Meredith is dangerously close with $15,700, having responded correctly more times. Kevin has $8800.

Final Jeopardy! in "Musicals": profession of the title character of "Little Johnny Jones", featuring the song "The Yankee Doodle Boy". Correct response: what is a jockey?

Everyone is wrong, and in Todd's case, it costs him dearly. Meredith backs into a win with $5700. Todd leaves with $60,402.

Cash game action continues in night 3 as Doyle straddles $800 on 9-5... and tosses it. Howard plays A-4h against Patrik's 6s. Flop: 3-Q-K. Checks. Turn: 9c. No help to either. Patrik folds and Howard wins $9400 on the turn as Doyle takes a walk for a moment.

Educative moment: according to Wikipedia, a straddle bet is an optional and voluntary blind bet made by a player after posting the small and big blinds, but before cards are dealt. Straddles are typically used only in cash games played with fixed blind structures. Straddles are normally not permitted in tournament formats. The purpose of a straddle is to "buy" the privilege of last action, which on the first round with blinds is normally the player in the big blind.

Doyle returns in Act 3. Gabe raises on K-8h to Howard's A-Qc. Flop: 4-2-J. No player hits it. Gabe wins it on continuation bet. And next hand, Doyle straddles again as the players have agreed on for one round. He's one of five. Flop: 10-2-8. Top pair for Howard, 4s for Eli Elezra. They both continue on. Turn: 4s. Eli spikes a set and bets. Howard calls dead. River: 5d. Over $50,000 to head Eli's way.

Four handed flop comes up 3-7-7. Eli spikes a set again. All four check. Turn: Jd... Time to sing. "Eli's riding on a boat, doo dah, doo dah." Everyone's dead in the water as Eli collects $9800 more. Now he's got over a quarter of a million in front of him... and the pile just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Four hands into the flop of 2-9-10. Eli's got deuces. Dee's got 10s. Gabe has an open-ended draw. Eli bets $5500. Dee raises it to $15,500. Gabe folds. Eli folds. Dee wins $30,200.

Will the profit bubble break on night four? Stay tuned.

On October 15, 2007, game show history was made as Drew Carey inherited the mic from Bob Barker. One year later... he's still having a grand old time. Good for him. He wants to give an anniversary gift of a day sailer to Summer Currie, Larry Paxton, Donna Miller, or Beverly Ferreira. Larry sails off with the $3195 prize, but how will he fare against Switch? Recumbent bike for $2400. Pool table for $1399. Larry says Switch it! We say good call!

Rosario Gonzales replaces Larry in the row... and on the stage thanks to a $2275 floor clock. Dodge Charger on offer in 3 Strikes as we go back to one strike in the bag. First number is 2. The others: 4, 5, 6 and 8. The first two give us the first three, $24,800-something-something. Third draw... STRIKE ONE! Fourth: 5. Going to the last... There it is. She draws the 6 for win #2!

Summer can wrap up the half with a win after taking a $1499 stereo. Cliffhangers is next for a bed with sleep set. First up, an alarm clock? $20? No, $25. Hans moves five. Veggie peeler/masher is next. Summer guesses $35. Three bucks off as Hans goes to 8. Finally, the buffet station. Is it $45? Nope, but it is $50 to win!

Play at Home: AICO fireplace. Call 1-888-90-PRICE.

Larry wins in the Showcase Showdown, and Jessica Brown follows Summer all the way to a $785 camping package. Next up for her is a trip to Jamaica, mon. Squeeze Play has $63,758. That isn't the price. She knocks out the 7... and the price matches, $6358! An impossible run of luck continues!

We're going for all the CBS money today.... Arthur Hovanisian follows Jessica to a $747 yard package. Groceries can lead to a piano. Gold Bond Ultimate healing lotion... $9.12. He just wants one. Next, three Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies. Each one is $1.39. Three gives us a total of $13.29. Kernel Seasons goes for $2.99. One of those gives us a total of $16.28. Hall's Naturals next. He wants two. Each is $2.15. Two is $4.30. Total bill is $20.58! Give him the keys!

It's been a perfect day so far, but all Donna and Beverly could do was watch. It hurts, doesn't it? Let's see if a collection of small appliances can heal the wounds. Price is ... $829. Winner is... Donna! She gets a shot at a 2009 Ford Mustang if she knows when That's Too Much! She thinks that $22,891 is Too Much. Remember, this is for the first perfect show of the 37th season. Is it too much?

You bet your sweet can it is! It's $21,525!

Arthur's your second player at the Showcase. First up, Larry takes a break from the rest of the world with a sofa glider, a hot tub, and a 2009 Ford Flex. Top winner Larry bids $45,000. Arthur tags a dining room with dinnerware, cookbooks, and a trip to China at ... a dollar. Actual price: $17,336. Big move, big mistake? Actual price of Larry's Showcase... $36,937. He IS over, and Arthur wins $23,478.

Trivia time: one year ago today also was a perfect show. Of course, the shows back then aired out of sequence.
