Celeste DiNucci
(grad student from Philadelphia); $43,602, three
days |
|
Brent Tabacchi
(federal prosecutor orig. from Decatur, IL) |
|
Debra Mack
(student from Chicago) |
Celeste is making quite a
name for herself as she continues to redeem her
brother's defeat at the hands of Jerome Vered.
Celeste starts with $200
Classic American Music. Brent finds the Daily Double
under $1000 Turn Me Lewis. He bets $400 on someone who
died of a gunshot wound on October 11, 1809. "Who is I
don't know." It was Meriwether Lewis, leaving him with
$1000, tied with Debra at the TV time out. Celeste has
$3200.
At the half, Celeste
keeps her lead with $5600 against Brent's $3800. Debra,
with $1800, starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Science at
the Exploratorium. Celeste finds the first Daily Double
under $1600 Do You Have a Reservation? She bets $3000 on
Passamaquoddy & Penobscot. "What is Maine?" Right for
$12,200! Debra has a chance with $1600 Fruits. She bets
$4000 on this: this golfball-sized fruit, citrus
aurantifolia swingle, is now grown mostly in Mexico, not
southern Florida. "What is the grapefruit?" Nope, it was
the key lime, leaving Debra with $1000. She winds up
with $5800 against Brent's $8200. But with $19,400, it's
Celeste's game to lose.
Final Jeopardy! in "Political Idioms":
used to describe a response made without thinking, its
physical counterpart can take 1/20 second. Correct
question: What is a kneejerk?
Debra is right, but
unfortunately, Celeste knows that this game belongs to
her, betting enough to guarantee her the win with
$16,800, $60,402 for four days. |

Palacios
(Mario, Luis, Jose, Edwin, Maria) |
|
Hernandez (Jose, Mailin, Harold, Anabel, Barbara) |
What starts with Jose vs.
Mario ends with a possible victory for the Palacios, as
they lead, 181-82 at the end of three. Here's your
Double Round question: something that, when babies do it
for the first time, parents don't want to forget (4).
Anabel gets #2, the first word. Also up there: first
smile, first step, and first cry for 280.
Triple Round: another
word for "stomach" (3). Barbara fires for #1, paunch.
Jose follows with belly. Abdomen is good for the sweep,
505-181.
Dinero
Rápido time, as Jose & Barbara try for $5000. Jose gets 108.
Barbara bumps it up to 138 for $500 and a match-up
against the champs..
|
Soriano
(Ana, Ana, Carlos, Rolando, Miguel); $1500 |
|
Hernandez (Jose, Mailin, Harold, Anabel, Barbara);
$500 |
In round 3, we have an
instance when a quick look at Marco Antonio's trusty
dictionary may affect the game for the Hernandez family.
Per the rules of "100 Mexicanos Dijeron", which we're
playing by, if the Hernandez family win, then no harm no
foul. If not, they will be invited to take part in a
future episode.
After the double round,
the Sorianos lead, 234-92.
Triple: Something that is
illegal for boxers to do during a fight (4). Miguel
fires below the belt for #1. Kicking and head-butting
are also no-nos. The Hernandez have one more shot with
hitting behind the head... Not there! Sorianos win,
441-92. Other answer: "Mike Tyson"/bite. But we will see
the Hernandez family again someday. Keep an eye out
here.
Meanwhile out of the
fruit basket of fate we get... "buena suerte." Rolando
is first at Dinero Rápido. He gets 89. Carlos gets...
eight short for $500 more, giving the family $2000. |
