Jeopardy! by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or jeopardy.com
Host: Alex Trebek
Mark Edelson (software developer from Toronto); $24,199; two days
Cait Murphy (editor orig. from Cos Cob, CT)
Sidney Tison (veterinarian from Sewanee, GA)

Two days and almost $25,000 later, Mark is still perched at podium #1. We'll see what happens in 29 minutes.

Mark starts with $200 On Its Eastern Border, starting a tear that would see him to the lead at the TV time out, $3400 to Cait's $400 and Sidney's -$800.

Sidney finds the Daily Double under $1000 Who Wants to Be a Legionnaire? He goes all-in on this clue: while most Legion units are based in mainland France, 1 unit is based in Calvi on this Mediterranean Island. "What is Alba?" Nope, it was the island of Corsica, leaving Sidney with... well, nothing. It gets worse as he ends the round with -$400. Cait drops to $200, while Mark has $4600. But Sidney can come back when he starts Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 Movie Critters. Cait finds the first Daily Double, an audio under $1600 Pulling Rank. The bet is $1500. What's the rank of the singer heard here? The song: "I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historical, From Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical..." "What is general?" Close. It was "major general." Cait drops to $300. She has one more chance under $2000 Famous Americans' Homes. She bets $2100 on this: If he could have gone home again, it might have been to his mother's Asheville, NC boarding house, now a landmark. "Who is Thomas Wolfe?" Right for $4400, where she ends the round with Sidney at $6800 and Mark at $8200.

Final Jeopardy! in "World Events": in 2003, 120 years after it made headlines, a book on this was subtitled "The Day the World Exploded". Correct question: What is Krakatoa?

Only the challengers get it right... and only Sidney goes big to win $13,400. Mark leaves with $25,199.

Lingo by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  7:30p ET/6:30p CT on GSN
Hosts: Chuck Woolery & Shandi Finnessey
Roommates/waiters Cindy & Steve
Best friends/coworkers Bryan (sports instructor) & David (writer)
BONUS LINGO JACKPOT: $22,000

We don't list it, but Cindy & Steve are also bad dancers. Bad meaning good, of course. You'll see why in a bit.

Cindy & Steve start with an M. MEALS invokes... a victory jig! So does WORTH, but Cindy draws a stopper. Bryan & David steal SEVEN. Then, another red ball. Cindy & Steve capitalize with EXIST. Bryan & David steal AWFUL, but how awful is it to pull a red ball afterwards? They get the draw back with CHEEK, and this time, it leads to Lingo for 125 to the Yellows' 75.

Cindy & Steve GRIND out of a G. And another stopper! Cindy & Steve come back with VERBS, while they do the Lingo Jig to end the round, 175-125, in the lead.

BTW, Starface drops August 1 on GSN at 9:30. You will watch...

Bryan & David get a B. Cindy & Steve do the steal jig with BRAVE. And Steve gets another red ball. They get the drum back with STYLE. And Steve draws another stopper... But they PUNCH in for control again. They Lingo off of a ? ball to win the game, 425-125.

With two bonus letters, Cindy & Steve get SWIFT and MINCE for $200 and two draws. Money ball is 43. Cindy doesn't have it.... but Steve does for $5000.

Next show, $23,000 up for grabs.

¿Qué Dice La Gente? by Chico Alexander, GSNN

Air time:  7p ET/6p CT on Telefutura
Host: Marco Antonio Regil
Nieves (Oscar, Jeffrey, Michael, Yesika, Melissa); $500
Lugo (Sonia, Guillermo, Jaime, Gabriel, Adrian)

We've got a bit of a streak going here... Three days, three champs, and two of them haven't won the big money in Dinero Rápido. Can the Nieves snap the skid?

Round 1: a typical trait of someone who has lost their love (7). That's Oscar... "Llorar." Crying... not there. But loss of appetite is up there at #6. Jaime gets #3, butterflies in the stomach. Gabriel went the other way with happiness for #2. The Nieves have a chance to steal with.. distraction. That's another show. But it's #1 for 54. Other answer: silliness, sighs, nerves.

Round 2: a famous tower (6). Guillermo fires with #1, the Eiffel Tower. Rest of the family gets Gemelas, Pisa, and Babel. The Nieves look to steal with the Empire State Building... Not there! The Lugos get 63. Other answers: Latinoamericana, Babylon.

Round 3: something that makes you go to a movie at the theatre (5). Jaime likes whoever's in it for #2. Gabriel has action for #1 (under the theme). The Nieves try "director" for the steal... Not there! The Lugos have 118. Other answers: rating, title, hype.

Double Round: a specific beast of burden (3). Gabriel's burro beats Yesika's horse. The Nieves are going to try to steal this one with a mule... Got it for 250.

Triple Round: a drink that, if opened quickly, can foam out and spill (3). Melissa gets a soda, #2. Adrian gets #1, beer. Sonia sews it up for the Lugos with champagne, giving them the win, 418-250.

Dinero Rápido: Sonia scores the dreaded "triple cero" for 38 points. Gabriel only gets the family to 124 for $500.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Air time:  Check listings or millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira
Yesterday, Julie Richards (Austin, TX) made it to the $2,000 level, having asked the audience for help to get there. How will she do today?

Julie's husband, Richard, has a nickname for her: "Database". That's because she remembers all the information he needs that he can't remember. But when she got the call to be on this show, she didn't want to remember any more of his info; she wanted to only retain trivia knowledge for the show. Good idea. Anyway, the game resumes, and she soon reaches this...

[$8,000]
"Parting is such sweet sorrow" is a line from Shakespeare that offers an example of what literary device?
A: Oxymoron
B: Allegory
C: Personification
D: Analogy

Julie decides to call her mother, Maureen, and she's 99.999% sure that it's D. Julie trusts her... but she's wrong! It's A! That sends her home with $1,000, and I gotta wonder what her mother thinks of this.

Up next is Dee Dee Malachowski (Houston, TX). She's clearly pregnant at the time of this taping, and she has 5 weeks left before the baby is due. She says she sweet-talked the doctor into letting her go to NYC for the show. Well, whatever works... Anyway, Dee Dee starts by knowing that an octopus has 8 arms (though the thought of one having 8 isotoners scares me). A couple of questions later, and this shows up...

[$500]
Due to its red, bloodlike color, the planet Mars was named after the Roman God of what?
A: Wisdom
B: Sea
C: Wind
D: War

Dee Dee isn't really sure, so she asks the audience. And they really come through, heavily favouring D (97% of the studio audience; 84% of the AIM users). Dee Dee trusts them... and they're right! Moving on...

[$1,000]
In 1938, the infamous "War of the Worlds" radio hoax was broadcast on the eve of what holiday?
A: Valentine's Day
B: Halloween
C: Thanksgiving
D: Easter

The 50:50 leaves A and B. Dee Dee goes with B... and she has $1,000! Then, despite using 2 lifelines in the lower tier, she manages to recover, and she makes it all the way to this...

[$25,000]
Which of these recent bestsellers is best described as a "roman à clef"?
A: A Million Little Pieces
B: America [The Book]
C: The Devil Wears Prada
D: He's Just Not That Into You

Dee Dee decides to call her friend, Rebecca, but she is unable to give an answer in time (though it sounds like she was searching the Internet at the time). So, with that, Dee Dee walks with $16,000! Oh, and it was C.

In the hot seat now is Steven Strafford (Astoria, NY). He's quite the fan of game shows, and he's actually living out his dream by being on this show! He's really excited, and I hope he wins a lot of money here! With that, Steven starts by knowing the classic character "Dennis the Menace". He sweeps the lower tier, then gets to $2,000...

..before the horn goes off. Steven will return tomorrow, likely as happy as he was today.
