Mark Edelson
(software developer from Toronto); $12,600 |
|
Ryan McMillen
(English professor orig. from Staten Island, NY) |
|
Priya Bhatia Yerasi
(physician from Corona del Mar, CA) |
Mark has another chance
at a big payday today.
Chris starts with $200
Countries, but Ryan finds the Daily Double under $600
Life of the Party. He bets $1000 on this: formed to
oppose "King Andrew" Jackson; named after the British
party for limits on royal power. "Who are the
Democrats?" Nope, they're the Whigs, dropping him into a
tie with Priya at $600.
Mark takes the long road
into the lead, $8400 against Priya's $3600. Ryan, with
$1600, starts Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Five the "Ard" Way. Mark finds the first Daily Double
under $1600 Languages. He bets $3000 on this: spoken by
most people in Hong Kong, it has 9 tones compared to
Mandarin's 4. "What is Cantonese?" Right for $15,400.
Ryan finds the second Daily Double under $1600 Supreme
Court Before & After. The bet is $2500, and the clue is:
FDR appointee who married Mary Pickford. "Frances
Perkins..." Nope. William O. Douglas Fairbanks. He drops
to $2300. He goes to $3900 while Priya stands a chance
with $11,200 against Mark's $17,000.
Final Jeopardy! in "Films of the '60s":
Peter O'Toole was Oscar-nominated for playing the same
king in these 2 movies. Correct question: What were
Becket & The Lion in Winter?
Mark again bets enough to
guarantee that he remains champion, even though no one
got it right. He wins another $11,599, giving him
$24,199 for two days. |

24, his age), a $27 CD rack (with card 2, for where he

Vicki gets a $699 set of
dumbbells, and hopefully she isn't a dumbbell with a
trip to Alaska and a trip to Acapulco. Alaska is at
$3288. Acapulco is at $2036. Will she leave those prices
alone or is it Switching time? She leaves them alone...
GOOD MOVE! But it's Sitesa who would go on to the

Mustang? The game is One Away, and the price is not
$31,531. He tries $22,640. One... two... three right.

Anna Mann plays spoiler

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
We've officially entered the
summer, but there's still more Millionaire left to come
this season...
Starting today's episode is Dave Story (Santa Monica,
CA). He has a pair of daughters, and it has been hard
for him. But once a week, he and his family do something
called "Rude Lunch Day". Basically, they eat lunch
outside, and all table manners are not only ditched;
they're reversed. And belching is encouraged. Sounds
fun. Anyway, Dave starts by knowing that the popular
carnival attraction that features a target and a tank of
water is the dunking booth (I can't say I've ever heard
of "Whack-a-mermaid"). He completes the lower tier, and
he is on a roll heading into this...
[$25,000]
Tablature is a system of notation commonly used to teach
someone to do which of the following?
A: Use Morse code
B: Play a guitar
C: Draft blueprints
D: Knit
Dave decides to call his mother, Harriet, and she thinks
it's C. Dave forgot to ask how sure she was, though, so
he uses the 50:50. B and C remain. Still unsure, he then
asks the audience, and both polls favour B (54% of the
studio audience; 61% of the AIM users). Finally, Dave
goes with the audience, and says B... and he has
$25,000! Moving on to the upper tier...
[$50,000]
Since 1997, what actor has provided the voice for
MasterCard's well-known "Priceless" ad campaign?
A: Billy Crudup
B: Viggo Mortensen
C: Liev Schreiber
D: Daniel Stern
Dave isn't sure if he could identify the voice of A, and
he's not sure about C. He goes with D... but it's A!
Well, at least he had nothing to lose, and he goes home
$25,000 richer!
Next up is Julie Richards (Austin, TX). She has a
7-month-old baby, and she's also a child care provider.
And with some of her winnings, she wants to start a
business to help out moms. Sounds like a good idea. With
that, Julie starts by knowing that a coroner commonly
labels a dead body by attaching a toe tag to it. Along
the way, she gets to this...
[$500]
What #1 song from the '70s was based on a popular fad
that involved running around naked in public?
A: The Streak
B: The Loco-motion
C: Shadow Dancing
D: Crocodile Rock
Julie admits to have streaked once before. On a dare, of
course. This gets quite the reaction from the audience.
She then answers A, and she's obviously right! Julie
then completes the lower tier, before facing this...
[$2,000]
"What is ... Cliff Clavin?" is the title of a classic
"Cheers" episode in which Cliff appears on what TV show?
A: The Price Is Right
B: The People's Court
C: Jeopardy!
D: Love Connection
Julie vaguely remembers this, but she doesn't seem sure,
so she asks the audience. Both polls lean towards C
(88%; 69%). Julie trusts them... and they're right!
That's all for today. Julie will return tomorrow. |
