Craig Westphal
(paramedic from Tucson, AZ); $114,602, five days |
|
Gerald Bergen
(construction worker from Philadelphia) |
|
Josh Kennedy
(bartender from Trenton, NJ) |
Craig has made his mark,
but will one of the two challengers wipe the non-smile
off of his face?
Craig starts with $200
2001: A Sports Odyssey. At the TV time out, Craig and
Josh are at each other's throats, with $4000 for the
champ, and $3600 for Josh. Gerald, meanwhile, has $1000.
Craig finds the Daily
Double under $800 Hummingbirds. He bets $1000 on this:
the largest hummingbird is the 8 1/2-inch Patagona Gigas,
native to this mountain range. "What are the Andes?"
Right for $7200. He leads going into the half with $4000
for Josh. Gerald's $2800 gives him first go at Double
Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Who's Who in America, with Josh finding the first Daily Double
under $1600. He bets $2400 on this: once the youngest
person ever listed, she's still in the 2006 Edition,
known as "former ambassador". "Who is Shirley Temple
Black?" Right for $12,000 for the zorber. He has $13,200
going into the second Daily Double under $1600 The Ship.
He risks $3000 on this: Josiah Gibbs got help
translating for the accused men of this ship from James
Covey, an African sailor, once a slave. "What is the
Amistad?" Right for $16,200, although he'd drop to
$15,400 at round's end, still leading to $13,600 for
Craig and $8000 for Gerald..
Final Jeopardy! in "Transportation News": This
city's iconic Routemaster vehicles were just shy of 50
years' service when they were retired in 2005.
Correct question: What is London?
Count it for Josh, as he
is the only one who gets it right for $27,400. Craig
leaves, with the same face, with $116,602. But not for
long, I bet. |

¿Qué
Dice La Gente? by Chico Alexander & Jason Hernandez, GSNN
Air time: 7p ET/6p CT on Telefutura
Host: Marco Antonio Regil |
|
|
Veras (Geraldo,
Yani, Adriana, Sandra, Adalberto); $12,000, four days |
|
Fuerte (Celia, Doris, Elizabeth, Luz, Marta) |
Can the Veras family
close out the premiere week with a five-day sweep?
Round 1: if you heard
thieves in your house, where would you hide (6)? Geraldo
says closet... Number one! Then Marco jokes about coming
out of the closet. Context, my friend... The family
follows with under the bed, the bathroom, and the
bedroom. Can the Fuertes steal with the garage? Nope!
The champs get 87! Other answers: behind a door,
basement.
Round 2: something you
adjust (5). Yani: "Sostén." Bra counts under all
clothing for #2. Doris goes one better with your belt.
But they fail to capitalize. How about the clock for the
steal? Nope! The Fuertes win 57. Other answers:
TV, elastic, seatbelt.
Round 3: in your opinion,
who do you think was the best President of the United
States (6).
That's Adriana. "Reagan." That's #3. Elizabeth goes with
Clinton... and slick Billy's #1. The rest of the
challengers follow up with Kennedy, Bush the first,
Washington, and Lincoln for the sweep and 148.
The Veras family needs a
strong comeback right now. Vamos a jugar!
Double Round: a Latin American country that is playing
in the World Cup in Germany (3). Luz answers with the #3
answer of Argentina said by 14 people. Sandra then
thinks about it and says the #2 answer of Brazil said by
22 people! All that is left is the number one answer for
the Veras family. This should be easy! It only took one
response as Adalberto responded with, Mexico! Of
course, that was the #1 answer said by 55 people. With
that, the Veras family take the lead 269-155.
Triple Round: a specific culture or town that existed
before the Spaniards arrived (3). Adalberto gave the #1
answer of Maya! After Geraldo gave an answer of España,
Yani gave the #3 answer of the Incas. After getting
another strike, Sandra said, Santa Maria? After
getting the royal silliness from Marco Antonio, it was
time for the Fuerte family to try and steal. They gave a
last gasp effort with Atahualpa, but that got a strike,
and that was it! The Veras family won the game 392 to
155!
They won their FIFTH game on the FIFTH show! By the way,
here was the board that Marco knew would be up there.
1. Maya -- 34
2. Azteca -- 23 (I had this one all the way -JD)
3. Inca -- 7
It was time for the two guys to play Dinero Rápido for
an additional $5,000 added to the $12,000 they already
have! Can they win their third DR in five shows?
Adalberto is up first and does VERY well with the
following: An aquatic animal that plays a monster in
movies (shark -- 48), a very long river (Nile -- 16), a
vegetable that is creamy (asparagus -- 3), a piece of
jewelry that men wear (a ring -- 41), and a musical
instrument you blow into (una flauta -- 49). He picked
up a whopping 157 points! That was excellent! Geraldo
only needs 43 points to win the money one more time.
Hes confident that he can win the money, so then
Geraldo and Marco begin to poke fun while going over the
rules one more time as Marco pokes Geraldo while the
beep sounds off for a duplicate answer. Then while
going over the rules a second time, Marco fakes out the
sound effects guy as he fakes poking Geraldo in classic
Marco form. Then Geraldo gives his first answer of
ballena, or whale, worth only 10 points! After skipping
the second question, Geraldo gets 8 points for a carrot!
On the question about a piece of jewelry that men wear,
Marco brings the family over with the answer of reloj,
or watch. They know the won it with that super answer!
They only need 25 points
but Marco still draws out the
drama
SI, SEÑOR! That answer was worth 42 points, and with 217
points, they win the $5,000!
The Veras family leaves the show after five shows with a
grand total of $17,000. Many, many congratulations to
the Veras family on a great premiere week of shows, and
thanks to all of you! Two new families will face off
next Monday. |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN

Host: Meredith Vieira |

Last time, Becky Simmons
(Wilmington, NC) made it to $16,000, using 2 lifelines
along the way. What will we see from her today?
Becky says she's here to represent the South. And she's
here to make enough money to pay those student loans,
since she's in grad school. Also, her mother and
grandmother are in the audience, and despite the money
situation, she had them brought to the airport via limo!
Wow. Anyway, the game resumes with this...
[$25,000]
What dog breed gets its name from a German word meaning
"to splash around in water"?
A: Schnauzer
B: Beagle
C: Collie
D: Poodle
Becky immediately calls her boyfriend ("most of the
time", as she says), Eric, and he says D, with
confidence. Becky trusts him... and she has $25,000! On
to the upper tier...
[$50,000]
A gelotologist is a person who studies the effects of
what on the human body?
A: Hunger
B: Love
C: Laughter
D: Lack of sleep
Becky switches it out right away. After seeing that it
was C, she then sees this...
[$50,000] (Q)
Bill Clinton's presidential library, which opened in
2004, was designed to resemble what type of structure?
A: Staircase
B: Bridge
C: Lighthouse
D: Barn
Becky tries to reason things out, but eventually, she
just says A... but it's B! Oh well; she does have
$25,000!
In the hot seat now is Lauren Hinton (Yonkers, NY).
She's a literary coach. And apparently, she recently won
on an instant lottery ticket, and she got really excited
over it. Even if it was only $10. So, imagine how
excited she'll be if she wins a lot more than that here!
With that, Lauren starts by knowing that during wartime,
combatants traditionally surrender by waving a white
flag (if they're dropping trou, they likely have
something completely different in store). She sweeps the
lower tier, then eventually gets to this...
[$8,000]
What hip-hop star used to wear a Band-Aid on his cheek
to show solidarity with his incarcerated brother?
A: 50 Cent
B: Ludacris
C: Nelly
D: Jay-Z
Lauren thinks she knows, but she decides to ask the
audience anyway. Both polls favour C (70% of the studio
audience; 65% of the AIM users). That's what Lauren was
thinking, so she trusts them... and they're right!
Moving on...
[$16,000]
Named for botanist William Forsyth, forsythia is an
early-blooming shrub known for bearing what color
flowers?
A: Yellow
B: Red
C: Blue
D: Purple
Lauren calls her friend, Mike, and he doesn't know,
though he's thinking A. Lauren then uses the 50:50,
leaving A and C. With that, she says A... and it's A!
Lauren then makes a guess on the next question, and it
gets her to $25,000! Now, she takes a shot at the upper
tier...
[$50,000]
The word "tabloid" was originally trademarked in 1884 as
the brand name for a new type of what?
A: Painting
B: Notebook
C: Desk
D: Pill
Lauren thinks about it, then decides to switch the
question. She wouldn't have thought it was D, but that's
what it was. Anyway, here's the replacement...
[$50,000] (Q)
In 1947, what designer debuted an extravagantly feminine
style of women's clothing called the New Look?
A: Coco Chanel
B: Yves Saint Laurent
C: Christian Dior
D: Pierre Cardin
Since it's a free guess, Lauren goes with C... and she's
right!
That will do it for this week. Lauren will return on
Monday, to go for $100,000 (and possibly more)! |
