Today, no one involved in
murder... as far as we know. But first...
A native New Yorker, Lily
Chin. She never drove a car. That's not her secret. This
is... "I am the world's fastest crocheter." Blindfolds
up, please. Jermaine gets that she is making something
that you could wear. Suzanne... empty. Frank gets yarn.
Billy gets it. No big prize for Lily, but the panel gets
scarves.
Next, an IT manager from
Bisbee, AZ (hey, I've been there), Jeff Harris. His
secret... Jeff's failure made news. Suzanne... well,
people were involved. Frank gets that people died doing
this. Billy gets a competition and a loss. Jermaine...
is stymied.
His secret: "I lost an
election to a dead man."
Finally, a retired NASA
rocket scientist, Larry Thompson. His secret... "I am
Carrot Top's father." Frank gets "performer". Billy gets
a living male over 30 whose still a household name, a
comedian occasionally on TV. Jermaine narrows it down to
"not black". Suzanne gets that he works in Vegas... She
gets Carrot Top, and... "Oh my God, are you his dad?"
YES!
And... Ladies and
gentleman, Scott "Carrot Top" Thompson! He takes us out.

Keith Suta
(writer from Bozeman, MT); $15,000 |
|
Amy Cash
(geology student orig. from Elmont, NY) |
|
Eric Dolansky
(PhD student in marketing from Toronto) |
A writer and two students
walk into a quiz show... and start taking each other
out.
Keith starts up with $200
I Got to Boogie, finding the Daily Double under $800. He
bets $1000 on this: when Chinese troops invaded in 1959,
this leader escaped through a Himalayan mountain pass.
"Who is the Dalai Lama?" Right for $3600.
He maintains his lead at
the half with $5600 to Amy's $4600. Eric, still in it
with $3200, starts Double Jeopardy!...
...with $400 in, quite
fittingly enough, It's Canada, Eh, finding the first
Daily Double under $1600. The Canadian bets big, $4000,
on this: the big bay between Canada & Greenland was
discovered by & named for this Englishman. "Who is
Baffin?" Right on for an even $10,000. Eric also finds
the second Daily Double under $1200 Men's Wear. He bets
$2200 on this: though it had the name of woman from an
1882 play, this hat with a front-to-back crease became
popular for men. "What is a fedora?" Right for $17,000.
He ends with $17,400, while Keith is still in it with
$10,800, to Amy's $7800.
Final Jeopardy!
in "20th Century Americans": encouraged by RFK
to seek public office, he left the Marines as a colonel
in 1965 & won a Senate seat 9 years later. Correct
question: Who is John Glenn?
Both challengers are in,
but Eric's the man of the half hour with $21,601. Eric
leaves with $16,000. |

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
|
Just another quick mention:
two days... the 'thon... is on. And now, ladies and
gentlemen, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA)....
"This episode of 'The Price
is Right' was taped before Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
struck the Gulf Coast and includes a trip to New Orleans
as a prize. Nine months later, I'm proud to tell you
that Louisiana is on its way back. And we want to share
with you the food, music, and spirit of our amazing
state. So come on down."
Thank you. Now to
business with Anthony Ramiro, Joanna Stone, Darren
Stevens, Dorothy Johnson, and a grandfather clock. The
$2325 clock goes to Anthony, as he gets to play for a
$18,6_5 Ford Focus, a $_7 rice cooker, a $_0
mini-fridge, a $_3 sandwich maker, and a $_0 blender.
The numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. He goes 8, 3, 2, 5, 1
first... Nothing. Switch! 2, 1, 5, 8, 3 is next... Two
right... the $17 rice cooker and the $50 mini-fridge.
The car was $18,635.
Ida Sanchez is down and
up thanks to a $850 sound system that she happened to
bid $850 on for an extra $500. It's a spa for Ida in the
Range Game. She stops the rangefinder at $9909. Actual
price... $10,098. Should've waited a bit more.
Darren wins an $858 pair
of scooters. But can he win an electric range, a set of
crystal stemware, and a recycling bin? Should be Eazy as
1-2-3, right? Especially with his shoes off, right? He
goes stemware, recycling bin, and range. Prices...
$775.... $1130... $1999! Our first winner! He's also a
winner! winner! in the Showcase Showdown.
Dorothy wins a $500 bonus
from a $675 hammock. Now to play for the aforementioned
trip to New Orleans and another to Washington, DC. The 1
Right Price is $3655. She places it on DC. Actual
price... $3655!
(C-Note: a true sign of
the times... The carrier to DC, Independence Air, no
longer exists)
A third set of five
Benjamins goes to Joanna, who wins a $900 set of
artwork. Now she goes for a travel trailer in the Now or
Then game (then again, considering the circumstances, it
could be Then or Then). "Now"... October of last year.
"Then"... March 1997. The products: Uncle Ben's instant
brown rice ($1.99), Jif Extra Crunchy ($2.99), Mentadent
toothpaste ($3.91), Maxwell House decaf ($4.75), Betty
Crocker cake mix ($1.55), and Westbrae Natural salad
beans (99c). First up, the peanut butter. Now or Then?
She goes with now... Now is right! Mentadent is next.
She says then... Right! Now to the coffee. She says
now... Now! Three winners in a row!
But Evan Bolek would stop
that streak after winning a $2730 bar set. His game: One
Away. His prize: Dodge Caravan. Not the price: $28,743.
First try: $19,852... Three right. Second try:
$19,654... Nope. It was $19,834.
Joanna goes into the
Showcase as well. First up, a visit to the First Bank of
Price, where we deposit a radio vacuum/carpet steamer,
scuba gear, and a ski boat. Top winner Joanna bids
$18,500. Shoeless Darren goes for Big Island flowers for
a year, a new living room with end tables & carpeting,
and a grand piano. He bids $9222. Actual price: $16,979.
Difference of $7757. Joanna's Showcase is... $29,468.
Darren wins the day with a $21,741 stash.
Stats: breakeven,
$45,964. |

S K _ L L S
He was
thinking "skulls", but it was "skills"...

end the show with Vanna at Pike Place Market
in Seattle.
